It ticks all the boxes until i realised it needs to have a power supply. I really don't want wires hanging from a wall mounted TV.
Does your TV have a USB port that pumps out 5V? If so, that might work instead.
I presume you've got HDMI cables at your TV. If so, get a long HDMI cable terminating at a convenient power source.
Can you install apps on that one tho? I got some pirated tv and movie show apps that I use to watch overseas stuff.
Yup. So there is web browser app that amazon has called downloader. Once you get that you can search the web, download apks and install as usual. Kayo Android tv APK is available on apkmirror.com so you just to that website on the fire tv and install.
Great until you want Kayo and then you have to do a bunch of workarounds which is BS. I've got one and barely use it purely because of that reason.

I'm already telling my life to Google (home devices and phones) and I am not that inclined to be talking to Alexa as well.
If I was on Alexa, Fire TV would be best for sure.that review is about the fire tv 4k. The 4k max is faster than the 4k which is already faster than the google tv.

Anyone knows if this works without a phone. I'm looking at getting one for a relative who has a child with time based content filtering and wanted to make sure this only works for casting and not with apps.
Fire TV 4K max is 50% off at $49 right now. The processor on that is much faster than the google tv. If you have a echo dot then the FTV will be great.
