  • are these same quality as the gold series?

    • yes, very much same material with extra layer for "blackout"

      • is this a good tent? I havent camp for 15 years, but keen to take the family out

        • +2

Great tent. Highly recommend at this price.

          • @Doowyah: does it come with a ground sheet?

            • @SS625: No it doesn’t

            • +3

@SS625: Their eBay store has the mesh ground sheet for these tents too. And you can use the same code for the discounts.

I have 6 person tent - no issue so far (only used few times)

just keep in mind they are very bulky and on a heavy side when folded. pretty easy to setup and can be done solo but 2 ppl recommended.

only one thing: pegs - just replace them. what included is absolute rubbish. Just get set from Aldi - so far the best value for money I managed to find.

    • Can recommend this tent.
Not familiar with gold series for comparison, but have been using this tent for 1 or 2 weeks each summer for around 5 years has held up well. Been through a couple of storms (no leaks and is stable in wind) and some very hot weather. "Black out" works well for darkness and does lower temp a bit. We are family of 4 and arrange the tent as sleeping areas at each end (partitioned areas with doors) and middle area as entrance and storage of gear. Size is good - son and I both over 6ft and no issue with height. Awning has a few options on how to set it up for shade in the day - not a big area as would expect so we've gone with a separate walled gazebo to have table for food prep, eating and day time shade.

      • Thanks for the info, did you get the 8P or 10P?

  • How big would you recommend 1 adult 2 kids.

    • +1

4 should do it but 6 has slightly different design which I think is a bit better (entrance has larger cover)

    • +1

At least 6, possibly 8 if you can fit it in when you go camping. I have a 10 oztrail similar to this for 5.

    • +1

      I'd recommend the 6p too

    • +1

      Heard this logic:
Whatever the tent size is, divide it by 2 and it’ll fit than many people in it comfortably

  • This or the OzTrail that looks very similar here?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/738806

    • Coleman is the original manufacturer of the "instant-up" tents, so for that I'd recomend Coleman. I have the 6p myself and have used it 5 times this year - no problem!

    • Go with Coleman which has PVC floor. I believe the Coleman Gold range also has a PVC floor and is almost identical to the Northstar range. The built in LED lights are very handy as well.

  • Should I go for 8P or 10P for 2 Adults, 2 Kids + a dog?

    • Snowys has a video on YT for the 10p. In each room you can fit a queen mattress or two singles comfortably with space for bags. The middle section would be a decent living area sufficient for 4 people. I'd just go the 10p unless you mind the packed size and weight.

  • +1

damn the 6p is out of stock…. i think thats the best size for 4 ppl

    • annoyingly missed out too

      • +1

hey mate its back up 6p

        • Legend thank you!

  • -6

Good luck to anyone who buys this crap.

We have had 4 Coleman products and all have been faulty.

Coleman Fyreknight Camp stove - faulty.
Coleman Northstar darkroom 10p tent - faulty
Coleman Airbed - woke up on the floor!
Coleman gazebo - broke in light winds

That's a hell of a lot of landfill. Stores get credit from rep and throw in the bin. buy the outdoor connection Brampton it's 100x better quality.

  • Thanks just bought one!

    • -6

Cancel dude. Trust me. In campsites when the winds come, the Coleman people pack up and leave for good reason. The caravaners and good tent owners stay.

  • That is a great price on the 10p. We hit the jackpot at Snowys on the weekend, went in to look at the 8p and the first thing we saw was one on the floor on clearance for $499.

  • 10P Northstar OOS :(

There's this Coleman 10p for $459 at BCF though? https://www.bcf.com.au/p/coleman-instant-up-darkroom-tent-10…
    Thoughts?

    • Back in stock but coming up $620.36 with code. Price jack?

      • It's the same price for me is $584.22 with eBay plus

        • I have Ebay Plus… $620 cheapest it goes. The $584 it quotes in Ebay+ promo doesn't equate in checkout.

Worked it out… above price DOES NOT include delivery.

          $749 -22% = $584.22

But then it's almost $40 delivery on top :(.

          • @UFO: Strange, i just added one to the cart and it's still $584.22 with free shipping for me.

            • +1

@davdav: Just tested different different delivery areas…. Syd and Mel metro (2000 and 3000) show free delivery… but ACT metro doesn't. Pretty crappy how they've worked it out like that, normally ACT metro is free :(.

    • What's the difference between the BCF one and the one OP posted? Different color?

  • -4

Downvoted for giving honest reviews and opinions!

Gotta love ozbargain 🤣🤣🤣 I'm thinking OP was from tent world.

    • +4

You know, it actually makes more sense if you say I'm from Coleman. Because tent world sells the superior brand that you were bragging.

I'm not the first one post this tent and I didn't even comment on this at all LOL.

But you are right about Gotta love ozbargin.

And now allow me to neg you which I didn't get the chance to do.

      • +1

@davdav That final line is funny. I hate it when people neg vote a deal for silly reasons.

  • DarkRoom - Filters out up to 95% of sunlight- Perfect for getting the kids to sleep longer with the reduced light.
As a parent of young kids, then if that feature is true that just sells itself.

  • +2

I own this tent, not the dark version but the otherwise very similar Gold version 10P and it looks identical to this tent.
It's a fantastic tent, holds up well in the wind. It's very rainproof. My only issue is the front verandah, when you have the verandah fully extended,
just like photo number 11 or the final photo on the eBay ad. If you have the verandah extended like this then water pools up top and after
heavy rain it can collect water very quickly threatening to pull your tent down. The easiest solution is to drop the 2 centre poles
(seen with guy ropes in the photo) to about 140cm high so the water flows downhill away from the tent.
The tent is huge, almost big enough to need a planning or building permit from your local council.
The quality of all the parts, inner, fly, poles, zips etc is excellent. I've had mine for a few years now and it does not have one fault.

    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/instant-up-northst…

    I'll just leave this here….

    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/outdoor-connection…

Poles come twisted out of factory, structural issues, leaking awnings, poles snap (only some are replaceable through Coleman, 95% of time not available).

Other good brands would be Zempire and Outdoor connection (both make serious camping gear designed to last)

  • +1

    6p back in stock

  • and if you want the ground sheet for the tent here is another deal
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739408

  • +1

    Recommended camp pegs?

  • Ended up going for the silver series 6p $214 with pushys $10off code. Should do me okay for my 1-2 times a year camp out!

    • is that different to the listing?

      • Yeah cheaper version of tent. On pushys.com.au

Not as good as this tent but depends what you want need

        • +2

I consider the tents are like ladders. You will use them for 5+ years and thus went for the north star version.

  • Don't forget to give yourself extra time for delivery. Tentworld is not fulfilling orders as quickly as eBay's estimated delivery times indicate: (
    Not happy

    • Really? I have received my orders (in SA).

    • I got mine yesterday in NSW.

If they/eBay miss the delivery time, I believe you are compensated with a $5 eBay voucher.

    • I needed it for the end of the week and the ETA said it would arrive in time, but contacted tentworld who said it’s a “preorder” arriving in their warehouse dec 5 so I cancelled.

Very annoying as now I can’t source the 6P lighted tent anywhere in Melbourne in time for Friday.

      • Same here:) I have asked if they can transfter to sydney store to pick up but no luck.

  • If anyone interested, it seems to be even cheaper now. Listed $699 and after discount with eBay plus is now $545.22. But sad that am missing out on reduced price :(
