it would have been good, but FHD panel..

I got a Lenovo 5i Pro Gen 7 same CPU / GPU / SSD, but 32 GB DDR5 and much better panel (QHD+ 16:10 with 165Hz and G-Sync, Advanced Optimus) for $2849 with 16% cashback and Lenovo Rewards credits came down to $2200

    • When did you get that Lenovo?
I am looking for that exact specs.

I checked Lenovo today, it's not available ATM. they had this for a while and then boom gone. you can configure existing "build your PC" options to match that one, but it comes up way more than that ($4k+)

hopefully they will re-instate that deal

        • Thanks, I'll just have to wait patiently I think.

  • It looks like the exact normal/expected price for this, not really a bargain. This black Friday is more like a black Fraud

    • yup

  • I had high hope for this but got sick of waiting and got Lenovo 5 Pro with 3070 instead, is this any good?

    • No. Omen have fallen out of line nowadays, this have only 115w on the gpu and subpar build quality- bad screen wobble on basically every omen/victus model nowadays which is neigh unacceptable for such an expensive rig.

    • 5 Pro tons better than this.

    • thanks guys

  • Better wait for a Legion 5 Pro sale at 2.5 grand. Not to mention 2199$ can net you a Dell G15 with 12700H, FHD 165hz and 3070ti (150w unlike the pitful 115w here) in one of those semi recuring dell sales.

As bad as some reviewers make G15 out to be compared to the L5P. Its still a decent rig all things considered (Alienware M15 use the same mobo and thermal solution fyi) and at least come with none of the screen wobble nonsense.

    • can u share the link of Dell G15 please? I am been looking for it.
      Thanks

      • its not on sale right now sorry. will ping you if I see it drop in price again.

        • How about Dell X15 r2, 3080Ti & 12700H, any good? Thanks mate.

          • @chadbest: Funny thing, have the exact model in hand right now.

Its definitely expensive but if you needed the extra large vram for heavy workloads on the go I think its a great option compared to other 3080ti models. 140w 3080ti is not too low unlike zephyrus m16 or razer blade 15 options, and because how wattage is scaled this gen you only lose like ~10% performance for 20% less wattage compared to the full powered 175w options.

12700H is also more than workable and you will not miss the 12900H, as I mention in other threads the 12900H is just a slightly higher clocked 12700H with otherwise identical specs.

Build quality is very sound with alumimum(?) all round, very slim for a 15' and albeit its not light at 2.3kg the charger is I believe a GaN charger and weighs like 600g which makes the total travel weight right under 3kg. If you wanted to go with type C pd charging this machine also supports that. The x series uses a special paint, its quite a thick coating and while its great to keep out fingerprints unlike many other machines I feel like its more susceptible to paint being chipped off and its white so yeah. The keyboard side use a more traditional finish and i personally felt its pretty good.

Fan noise wise, it will get loud under load with any gaming laptops, there is customisable fan curves in the alienware command centre or you can use a third party software: https://github.com/T-Troll/alienfx-tools . Remember there is 4 fans working here so its definitely not on the quiet end.

Apart from that I dont think there is anything important I need to mention, the lack of ports maybe a problem so have a usb hub ready- 1 type A and 2 type C and thats it, at least one of the type c is TB4 and the other supports displayport with gsync out, or you can use the HDMI out but that doesnt support gsync-at least I wasnt able to get it working.

P.S: forgot to mention but if you are going for this expensive model do spare the extra 160$ or so to get the QHD240hz panel. Glorious panel at 400nits or so with near 100% p3 and high 90s in the adobe rgb coverage. Definitely suitable for some photoshop work or just media consumption in general.

            • @Brrrrt: Wow, Thanks Brrrrt for your detailed info especially you are playing with it. I am thinking to choose QHD as well. I need to purchase a docking to get more ports. Someone said all ports at the back is not very handy, do you have the same experience?

              • @chadbest: I either use it stationary docked with a bunch of cables hooked out the back (and i dont touch any of them after its connected) or if Im taking it on the go with me the most I will have is a wireless mouse so I personally dont feel the ports all being at the back is an issue. What is a bit of a issue is the ports located among the black painted part surrounded by the 'rgb ring' and when the light is all turned on, it makes it hard to see the ports clearly.

                • @Brrrrt: Thanks mate, you made the decision for me to buy X15 R2.

                  • @chadbest: You gonna buy it new or refurbished from Dell outlet?

                    • @KSinny: Don't know yet. My company has account with dell. Will talk to account manager to see if I can get a good deal first. Currently there is only one X15 R2 in outlet. That deal is not too bad.

                      • @chadbest: Yep I saw that, was thinking of picking it up myself but ended up getting a Legion 7 for less with a bit better specs.

                        • @KSinny: I will carry it every day so need to consider dimension and weights as well.

                          • @chadbest: Completely understand mate, have you considered something like the Blade 14 for it's portability?

                            • @KSinny: Razer 14 is a bit small for me and I did some research and someone said the cooling system on Razer 15 is not as good as Alienware.

This is a decent deal IMO but it is much over my budget.

                              • @chadbest: I had last year's blade 14 and it was great but I agree it is a bit too small and it gets pretty hot when playing games for a while. Wow that blade 15 looks like a beast! But yeh it's extremely expensive, If I see any good deals I'll be sure to let you know. But as for the Legion 7 it's pretty similar in size to the x15 while also having a 16" screen due to it being 16:10.

                                • @KSinny: Yes, that blade 15 is top of the top. No one can beat it so $4.8K is not too bad to be honest. Let me know if you can find any good deals. Thanks mate.

                                  • @chadbest: Yeh it's crazy good so the price makes sense I guess. And no worries mate I'll see what I can find 👍
