I bought two lifetime licences this year from a key reseller for not that much ($40 or so) and everything is working fine so far. Not sure if I can mention who or not, so msg me if you would like the details. The reseller is registered with Shopback so they must be reasonably legit, but looking online there are some complaints about them.

however some rudimentary search: "Malwarebytes' privacy VPN is Mullvad in a shady trenchcoat" and 2 months ago it blocked google.

I did have the one with VPN, but after 2yrs I just activated it. Not too bad speed wise, but many websites/services detected it. But I have so many others I'm not concerned.

yeah nah, they do different things for me.
this is where KIS is so much better.
bit defender is also marginally better because they can do simple firewalls.
I click on the 5 devices "Buy Now" for $39-99 for 1 year and I am taken to the Secure Checkout page. However when I get to the Secure Checkout page it now says 1 year subscription for 5 devices cost = $57-99! Possibly the special has finished?: I've sent off an email for a Support ticket to see if it can be sorted out. I might even have gone for the 2 year deal.

Probably the only "AV" software worth getting on top of Windows built-in Defender. You don't need anything else.
