Hopefully this wakeup call means they're MORE secure now - https://blog.lastpass.com/2022/08/notice-of-recent-security-…

I used to use them but moved over to self-hosted BitWarden running on my home NAS

      you were quicker than me

    • -1

Any instruction how to do this? Thanks

        1. Google “self-hosted BitWarden”
    • bitwarden gives their source code out of free… Don't even need to wait for a breach ;)

  • +3

Just use Bitwarden, it’s free and Open Source.

    • +1

Bitwarden is good, but I feel that Lastpass is certainly more mature, especially for families. The portability of the Authenticator app and Apple watch support has been great. That's been the only thing holding me back from moving to Bitwarden entirely.
Any password manager is a big step-up than letting Edge\Chrome\Firefox save your credentials.

      • Why not just use iCloud Keychain if you have Apple devices? (assuming the whole family does)

        • Unsure how to access Keychain from my PC, can you do this?

          • @UltimateAI: You can install Passwords and iCloud app on PC. I haven’t actually tried it yet though.

While LastPass is probably going to get a lot a flak here from some, a password manager is better than no password manager. I would recommend Bitwarden though as it's free, you can sync to mutiple devices for free and there is no limit to the number of password you can have in your vault.

  • I was using LastPass but slowly moving to Google password as it's more convenient

    • +3

Convenient but less secure in many ways

    • +1

Literally the worst place you could ever store passwords

  • I'm coming to the end of my 5 years of discounted LastPass and was looking to move across to BitWarden. Considering I've been using LP heavily for the last 5 years across many devices (mobiles, PCs, etc.) any advice for someone moving across? Or should I just stick with LP (better the devil you know)?

    • +1

I was with LP for a long time but when they started putting their prices up regularly, I moved to BitWarden. The only real difference I noticed was that LP allowed more granularity on security - eg requiring the password again to access credit card details or secure notes.

Other than that it was a pretty easy swap. If there were big issues I have since forgotten them. It was a couple of years ago.

      • Cheers, thanks. That gives me the confidence to take a stab at it over the break.

any way to use discount on an existing account?

    • Visit https://www.lastpass.com (top right and select login), complete login.
      Once logged in visit, https://www.lastpass.com/pricing?cp=LPF2022-CWC-25P
Note: top right still says "login", ie: looks like you have not logged in but you have.
Click the desired "get 25% off last pass" red button
Top-right on the next screen should show you are logged into your existing account
Standard price will show, but you should see a disount.

No idea if this deal works for existing PREMIUM members, but works for existing accounts.

Cashrewards currently has $38 cashback which works out cheaper than the 25% off. Especially for existing members.

  • +1

Long time LP user, but heading over to Bitwarden. Free has everything I need, but happy to pay US$10 / pa for premium to support the project.

  • Terrible company. Product hasn’t evolved since 2007 so I doubt their security practices have either.

If you want to pay for a password manager pick 1Password or Bitwarden.
