Google Pixel 6a 128GB with a Free Chromecast with Google TV (4k) $549 (RRP $79) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

1620

Free google tv with a decent budget phone. Available at JB Hi-Fi.
Also with my past experiences I was able to get a discount
pricebeat by using the little live chat thing with a monitor I bought by sending a link of a different store and I got 10 dollars off. May or may not work though I think it depends on the person who was talking on the live chat.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2022

4k version is $79 so far

    • yeah Accidentally wrote the wrong price I fixed it.

      • It's $99 RRP but on sale now at $79. Really good deal for this phone and 4K Chromecast.

  • +8

It's $499 at Telstra if doesn't want Google TV

    • -1

      Without the chromecast

      • +1

Spend $40 to get a fire tv 4k max

        • +2

          An objectively worse device?

        • I am just telling the difference. Of course I know that dongle isn't worth RRP.

  • +5

Price match to Telstra for $499 and then pay with TCN Home Gift cards would bring it down to $424 with the Chromecast 4K as free. $350 is a fair price to pay for Pixel 6a. Don't pay no more

    • Can you elaborate on TCN gift cards? DIdn't see it.

    • Will JB price match Telstra?

    • +3

Just tried matching online and they said they wont match Telstra deal as you need Telstra ID

      • +4

Telstra ID just means you have to register with the website? That is a pretty lame excuse. The Telstra deal is open to everyone.

        • +2

Telstra ID just means you have to register with the website?

          https://myid.telstra.com/register/

To create a Telstra ID, you'll need one of the following:

          • Telstra mobile number
          • Telstra landline phone number
          • Telstra account number

If you are new to Telstra, you’ll need to wait until your service is active.

The Telstra deal is open to everyone.

Telstra Black Friday catalogue says "Visit us instore or online. Outright purchases available to new and existing customers with a Telstra account."

        • +1

They don't care. As long as it's only Telstra customer its not considered

      • Unfortunately the Telstra outright deals require an active Telstra ID and service to access these special pricings. Which means we are unable to match I'm afraid as we cannot verify telstra IDs online through this chat

However you may have more success requesting this match instore as our telco team will be able to check your Telstra details and process the match :)

        • I wonder if they will give you the bonus Chromecast though… will be interesting to see if anyone is successful

          • @krazek: Update: JB matched Telstra instore, got it for $499 including the Chromecast. With discounted GCs not bad

    • Sorry just trying to understand how you got to the price of $350? Market rate etc?

      • $499 Price match with Telstra (JB Sales Line are being a dick, go into a quieter suburban standalone store not ones within a shopping centre/plaza they should match Telstra outright price)

        $79 worth Chromecast for free

15% off using TCN Gift cards $75 off

        So $499 - $79 - $75 = $345
Claim TRS on $499 = $45 if you are flying in next 60 days

        Comes to about $300 net

        • +1

I managed to score pixel 6a for only $150 from the Optus deal, sold the Pixel 7 for $900 in early Nov after breaking the Optus contract and paid $1050 (almost), can't remember the exact.

Now pixel 7 is selling for $700 and coming down.

        • +1

Can you still claim TRS on items and bring them back?

          • -1

@flud: You're not supposed to, but they're unlikely to notice unless it's big ticket

        • You missed $10 jb perks.

          • @Lukian: $10 perk can be used to get free t-shirt.

        • Don't down vote quick math

    • that's pixel 4a price

      is 6a worse than 4a ?

  • CPu model?

    • Google tensor og (samsung exynos chip basicly but better battery and camera)

  • Can you pay with multiple giftcards over the oine chat?

    • They send you a JB direct link and you pay with whatever you want. So yes multiple gift cards will work at checkout when price matched.

      • Thanks

    • +15

Would rather support JB than HN for same price. Can get discounted JB gift cards too.

        • +31

Nah. Harvey took about $22 million dollars from the government for Covid reimbursement of wages, yet made about triple the amount of profit during the timeframe and never returned the money. AFAIK JB never did the same thing. So, it's a matter of principle.

            • +19

@1st-Amendment: What about the GST you pay on every single overseas purchase that Gerry lobbied with the Liberals
I have not paid a cent to Hardly Normal for almost last 4 years now after their GST fiasco

          • +13

@omblygombly: Don't forget Gerry campaigning heavily for GST to be imposed on <$1000 overseas purchases…
            EDIT: Haha beaten by 1sec…

          • +2

@omblygombly: Spot on , this is why I won't ever shop at HN

        • +11

Absolutely not the same, I would even pay more to buy from JB to support a relatively more ethical business.

        • +4

Cause @#$% Harvey Norman. That's why.

      • +10

100%, Gerry went complaining to the Libs for GST on all overseas products because his business "was struggling" because of it, claimed tax payers dollars during Covid, and yet made crazy profits.. Harvey Norman is the epitome of corruption and big business being tied with government.

  • +1

Absolutely hunting this phone down to $350. It's already at $400 new on FB marketplace

    • +1

thanks to the Optus deal earlier in the month, sellers are desperate selling on marketplace. HODL!

    • FFS. Just bought marketplace bnib for 450 on Monday

  • Damn. Just bought the chromecast a few days ago and am tossing up between buying the pixel 6a or 7.

    • +2

Get this 6a deal and refund your previous purchase with the new one?

      • How does the 6a compare to the 7?

I'm looking at the S21 FE, Pixel 6a or Pixel 7. Not sure if there was anything else I should look at?

Someone suggested Pixel 5, but no idea where to get a Pixel 5 for a decent price?

        • +1

7 has the better camera set up I believe - but the 6a is no slouch. 7 also has the gen 2 tensor chip and 90Hz screen vs 6a's 60Hz. I think overall the 7 is probably more worth it given its next gen specs.

  • Great idea, but I can't, unfortunately. Gave it to my brother who has already used it.

    • I believe they mean refund the new one you would receive with the phone, but with whatever retailer you bought the Chromecast from.

      • You can't, the IMEI is on the receipt.

        • Fair enough, wasn’t my suggestion.

  • Was going for $489.99 on Kogan last night. Jumped up to $509.99 now.
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/heybattery-google-pixel-6a-6gb-…

Wondering if JB etc price match with kogan over the Telstra deal.

  • Ahh, yes. Bought from JB using perks. I wonder if I can. Might just wait for a few more days and see if something better than the Telstra offer finishes and if not, just buy through the Big T.

Have a S8 at the moment (and 4.5 years now), tossing up between the Pixel 7 and 6a.
Not impressed with what i read about the s21 FE or s22, if i could get my hands on a brand new s21 then that's what i'd probably do.
My wife has a Pixel 6 and i don't like the size of it but i suppose i'll get used to it. Considering 6a for size and price.

    • Missus has an S8 as well. She's undecided too. She doesnt really need a "flagship phone" but her current one has had no updates in quite a while. Interested to know what you choose.

      • I went with the P7, figured i may as well get the most up to date phone and the price point was fine.

  • My wife has a Pixel 6 and i don't like the size of it but i suppose i'll get used to it

See if you can get an as new P5. Much better than the 6a IMO

    • -1

      Why?

      • +1

because the Pixel 6a has the battery life of a particularly low-battery-life potato

        • The pixel 5 seems to be the same price as all the new 6a on marketplace at the moment.

        • -3

Why would you expect a non-flagship to have decent battery?

          • +2

@Nillionaire: Because battery capacity has nothing to do with being flagship or premium

            • -7

@4agte: Yes it does? The phones with the best batteries are all flagships.

        • +1

One of the 6a's signature features was that it was supposed to have adaptive batteries that can last over 24hrs. Sounds like its just Google "engineering"

          • @fuzor: That's just obvious advertisement using whatever metrics suit them. In reality, the iPhone 14 Pro Max doesn't even last that long (screen on time), why would you expect Google's midrange to?

      • +2

The pixel 5 has unlimited photo and video upload to Google photos.

        • +1

Only photos and only when compressed from the original.

  • How would this compare to a galaxy s21 or iPhone 11 Pro? Would it be similar?

  • +2

Hmm. This or the Galaxy A33?

    • +1

      This

    • +2

Same predicament, the Samsung is considerably cheaper at $389 and does a lot of the same stuff. Reading a lot of problems regarding the heat and battery life with the Pixel 6A and the camera doesn't look that great compared to the samsung just by specs alone but need to see them in person really.

edit: strange downvotes..? Help a brother out with the pros over the Samsung for the price. User reviews for the Samsung are a lot more favourable so far.

      • +1

The main pro of 6a is faster processor
The main pro of A33 is battery, screen refresh rate, fast charging, SD card, less bugs

        • Thank you, I'm coming from an S8 so I'm not sure what experience I'm going to get but from reviews it sounds like both screens seem sluggish at times. I think I'll go for the Samsung for my use case (no gaming or heavy video viewing) and the price is hard to beat.

I just don't want to have to charge my phone more than twice a day anymore lol. The battery on this S8 is just gonskies at this point and has some bad OLED burn-in from Waze.

  • I was able to get $536 by the dude on livechat so not bad if I pair it with the 15% off gift cards.

    • how?!

  • Grabbed one for $474 (price matched with telstra $499 & another 5% using giftcard) with a free chromecast, thanks OP.

    • +1

You found a JB that price matched Telstra?

      • yeah, shared the outright price link from Telstra and they matched it without any issues.

  • Cancelled my direct order with google on the 6a (same price as JB). Now my wife is happy with a new phone, and I get a free 4K chromecast. Thanks OP.

  • Thanks. Good offer

  • Which charger is best for 6a?

  • possible to buy and return the pixel but keep the chromecast?

    • I was thinking of the other way around, wanna swap?

  • Honest Opinion - Please dont buy this phone. Really disappointed - Battery life, performance.

    • What about camera?

      • Camera is good in daylight. Performs bad in night time.

  • Hi all, should I go with S21 FE or Pixel 6a? Which has better battery performance?

    • S21
