Been waiting for this to go on sale. An ozbargain favourite and only $2 more than the cheapest it's been before:

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/666709

The Bowden's Big Green Sucker is the fastest and easiest way to dry your car, manufactured from super soft, super thick microfibre weave with micro-soft edges to protect your vehicle from errant dirt and grit particles left behind after washing. This giant 400x700mm drying cloth can hold a massive 2.5L of water before needing to be wrung out making the job of drying your car so much faster.

The luxurious 1200GSM fabric is fantastic for keeping remaining grit and dirt away from your paint surface, ultimately reducing swirl marks. For even better performance and results pair this cloth with Bowdens Boss Gloss as a drying aid.

Super absorbent microfibre towel that literally sucks water into its fibres, so you can dry in half the time.
Ultra soft and thick fibres minimise any chance of dirt or grit micro-scratching your paint when drying.
Bright green colour, to easily see dirt in the cloth, and not wipe it back into your paint.
Nice big 40 x 70cm in size
Holds 2 and half litres of water in its fibres, that's some serious sucking.

    mmm…. she hulk

  • Can’t buy above half price!

      • Every time I get super cheap to price beat. They undercut by cent/s and that’s their version.
Is it meant to be a percentage?

        • +2

Dunno sorry. Just tell them you'll pay ask them if they'll take $20 and see what they say.

This is a great price for a quality product so why not reward the company providing it anyway? Not a big fan of price matchers myself. Competition is improved when someone is prepared to offer real bargains up front.

No % quoted, probably discretionary like Dan Murphy. https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/customer-service/price-bea…

  • Very good towel, sadly spent $30 on this

  • Not the cheapest but it is a great deal.

  • Surely supercheap auto would price beat this?

    • +2

I can confirm they do the price beat Repco. It's a small amount but still cheaper.

Is it me or did anyone read title as Brodens Own ……

    • +8

      …..Cause it sucks everything dry?

  • How many of these to dry a medium sized sedan?

  • +1

Have a 2 of these suckers, highly recommended!

  • +8

You can use this to make shorts, apparently.

    • LOL… that is hilarious!!

  • +1

Cheap ! I have one and can recommend

Have also heard good things about Chemical Guys Woolly Mammoth

    • +1

The woolly mammoths is terrible. Leaves lint all over the car. So hard to move around to dry the car as it sticks to it. Jay leno’s towel is so much better

      • Yep, Chemical Guys one is horrible, every dry it leaves more and more lint.

  • +1

    Thank you

  • +1

Don't have one but from previous comments I recommend washing it before you use it the first time otherwise you'll end up with green crap all over your freshly dried car.

  • Or THIS Big Boi for $475.

  • For an overall 4.7 star rating - actual text in reviews seem very hit and miss.
What do the trusty Ozbargainers think of this product? It sucks, sure, I'm getting that vibe. But is it any good at drying your car streak-free?

    • +1

I've got a few of these in the house, and my family and I are avid car enthusiasts. They work really well, paired with the bowdens product boss gloss (however I'm positive that they'll work with all quick detailers and even some other drying aides)

I've also got the gyeon drying towel which is great and both are quite comparable in terms of price and performance, so this at 21 is a good price. Just bought another one as a spare because why not 😂

    • How do you usually dry your car? This is highly absorbent and enables you to quickly remove surface water, so minimises streaking and water spots.

      • I'm just an old chamois user. Haven't had any problems with that method of drying - I just wring it out a few times and rinse it once or twice throughout a dry.

        • I do a quick chamois to remove some water. Spray a finishing product (of your choice) then use the towel to dry and spread it. This is big and quick and does an excellent job.

It is expensive but works fantastically well and is quality made. You want one.

        • Occasionally do that myself when I can't find the BGS after washing and drying it. The BGS is at least 3 or 4 times faster, which helps to reduce any water spotting - especially on the in between washes.

  • +3

I have one of these and whilst it's good, you can get 4x Kmart drying towels for the same money and the combined absorbency is greater. Added benefit is that as you change to a fresh towel while drying, you're not rubbing in dirt you inadvertently picked up from another part of the car.

    • Agreed
      for $5 they do wonders.

I have both. I use the kmart and finish with the BGS.

      • +1

This is exactly what I do. Dry with Kmart then use the bgs to pick up any streaks from the spray wax I apply to the wet car before drying

  • +2

The $4 towels from Kmart fitness section works a treat as well

  • +1

I have two K Mart suckers and one big green sucker. I can dry my SUV with the big green sucker no problem but I finish it off with the K Mart sucker. You MUST wash the Green Sucker before using

    • Wash and dry or use it wet?

      • +2

Use dry. Need to wash them first to get rid of the lint, and even then they will leave a lot of lint behind the first few uses

  • +3

    I have 2 already.

    I dont need it

    I dont need it

    I dont need it

    bought one. Thanks OP!

    • +5

      Groundhog day?

  • +1

Overrated imho. Material loses its quality in less than a dozen washes.

    • +2

Funny, I thought I was the only one who thought the same. I have three of these. One was ok, but very soon wasnt quite enough for my dual cab, so got a second to finish off. I bought a third when it was on special, but mainly always use the original 2. I then noticed I was having to use the second one a lot more often, and sooner. I use the third if the first one hasn't been through the wash yet. I always only ever use bowdens microfibre wash. My car's just over a year old and as it's my first new car I've been washing it pretty regularly, and quite often.
And I've noticed the first one now is it really doing anything at all now. So now I'm using the second and finishing off with the third.
I definitely noticed the absorbency is way down, leaving a lot behind and a lot more streaking.
So to backup your comment yes they definitely lose their quality

      • +1

I noticed the same issues. I actually just use the drop bear cloth now with a drying aid. Works much better for me

        • Thanks. Went and bought a drop bear cloth. Now on the lookout for a good value foam cannon.

    • What are you washing it with?
I've got three of them (seriously contemplating getting another at this price), my first one would be at least 3-4 years old and works just as well as the others.
I only wash them with Bowden's Microfibre wash, hang to dry then fluff up either by hand or a few mins in the dryer. Good as gold.

      • Wash Only with bowdens microfiber wash. Air dry on airer, inside.
Should try to remember to put in dryer in a cold setting once dry, if fluffing up is required.

        • +1

Definitely a noticeable difference when fluffed or not, even just roughing it up with your hands can be enough

  • Can I wash this in washing machine?

    • YeaP as it’s too awkward washing by hand, make sure you use a microfibre wash such as bowdens …

      • I use cheap wool wash with no additives on gentle wash, and hand rinse. No spin.

  • Is this for car or for body?

    • +2

      Bowdy

    • The fact its at Repco could be a hint.

      • +2

Yeah but they also sell the Snow and Blow pack, Happy Ending, Wet Dreams, After Glow, Three Way, so you could be forgiven for thinking the towels could be for cleaning up after all the fun is over….

It’s like their marketing department is run by some hornbag bloke who likes to have a chuckle to himself as he names their products

  • Detailing enthusiast here. I started using these towels and they were good originally, but quickly lose their absorbency after several washes. Something about the fibres just doesn't hold up over time.

My current choice is the Rag Company Gauntlet. The way the towel is designed just works so much better, and after a dozen washes it's still holding up.

    • how do you usually wash them?
I've been using the kirkland microfibre and throwing them away after each use.

      • +1

Using either Bowdens Microfibre wash or CarPro MFX.

Yeah best to not throw out microfibres if you can. The cheap ones aren't as durable, so it's worth investing in something good that can be used over and over again.

  • Cheers got the Broden!

  • Shame they don't do bath towels (or a bigger version of this), would definitely pick one up if they did.

Anyone have any good towel recommendations?
