Got the 3040-CN for $129 last month - same as this except this one is slightly more PPM (18 v 16)

Real easy to set up on the network. Just plug it in to your wireless router and install the driver on PCs you want to connect to it, had no probs with XP Home Win7. Works from woireless laptops too (via the wireless router)

Print quality black is very good, colour is OK. Wouldn't recommend if high quality colour prints are important - but for home use the colour prints are OK.

Only possible issue with this printer is the 32MB of ram. OK for most, but if you intend to print highest resolution full colour you will need at least 64MB. I got a 256MB laptop chip off of ebay for $10 delivered. Its real easy to install on these, there is a side door, behind that is a memory slot, just plug it in.

And the toners can be 'reset' so if it complains you are out of a colour just reset the counters:

    Toner Reset:
    1. Open the cover of the printer to access the toner cartridges.
    2. Press CANCEL + SECURE PRINT at the same time. This will show the toner menu.
    3. Press + and - to navigate to the toner you are reseting.
    4. Use the OK button to reset the toner. Each toner has two listings. Make sure to reset both.

I also have the 3040CN (as do my parents, at my recommendation) and they're awesome printers, highly recommended for document printing.

Colours can be a little off, and not super crisp but it's only an issue for photo printing, for document printing this is easily the best printer I've ever owned.

      • How are these for infrequent printers?
I may print once every 2 months. Needless to say each time I need to clean up my clogged inkjet carts for about half an hour b4 I can print.
do laser suffer any issues like this?

I'm also an infrequent printer since I finished uni and I haven't had any problems with it. There's probably a 15-20 second warm up time when the fans spin up and it checks the rollers before the first page, but that's all. It's a world of difference compared to the bloody Epson inkjet I had before.

    • 256MB laptop chip - ? sdram ? ddr ?

  • Almost all the prices on the first page are lower than this:

Not a deal, but thanks for bringing this model to our attention :) Old workplace used one of these and I loved it (especially networked).

    • This is free delivery though, which will suit most (was for me at least, in Melbourne). StartHere.com.au members can get a discount too (from 1.75% to 3.5% I believe, depending on your membership tier. 3.5% isn't advertised, but that is the rate for Founders).

  • Also this is a product Officeworks carries as well for pricematching goodness :P

    • Yeah is normally 229 at OW. They have changed the price already to 189.

  • Not a Deal for me, $172.99 pick up from MWAVE, or 184.49 delivered.

If OW change their price to $189 maybe you can try to get them to price match MWAVE price

  • Does anyone know how much would be the ongoing costs of this printer in comparison to InkJet printers? How cheap/expensive are toners and are there generic / refillable toner alternatives?

    • Surely google will be your friend with this.

Pay attention to the toner average page outputs. vs. the standard injet printer cartridge costs. Also consider you need to change the drum assembly every once in a while, usually 10-20,000 pages. If you're printing in those quantities though, you probably want to go laser regardless, and you might want a much more expensive printer.
