Any idea what makes this one cost $129 more?

    • +1

Was just wondering the same thing

    • +4

They're slightly different styles. The latter has a 'cleaner' look, covering the buttons. I have it all in black on the front, they look very sleek

      • +3

Also could be because of the cleaner look they sell more and have too many of this version on sale to get rid of, I have the "clean version", and its heaps easier to cook with due to the sliding bar to increase time.

It also has similar buttons when you open the door, but I've used those functions maybe twice in a year, cause I only need the sliding bar and the +30s function on the start button

        • +2

Yeh we're the same. Once we turned off the beeping and song when it concluded it became my favourite microwave

          • @Shunto: You can turn that off? I had no idea haha

            • +2

@JMxoxo: Yeah, open the door and hold down "clear + Keep warm" for a few seconds. Display will show "Off" to confirm. Enjoy!!

      • Yes cleaner look and stainless steel. I used to know the letter codes. Something like obsidian black stainless steel… obss

  • +4

Stainless steel faceplate and the extra touch sensitive glass on top of the controls

  • +2

Catch has it also $12 more .

    • +15

We looking for cheaper prices sir

      • +7

Correct, i was thinking if people have gift cards and catch club free delivery.

      • +1

It's free delivery, so cheaper if people need to get it delivered.

    • +3

LG has it also, $80 more

    • +1

I prefer to go with Catch with discount gift cards.

      • JB will match the cheapest price and use the 15% discount gift card. Win

        • +2

JB will match the cheapest price

They do not price match bing lee. I’ve asked on 2 separate occasions in past.

          • +1

@kaleidoscope: I just price matched and pick 1 up from JB Hifi. Probably depend on salesperson I guess.

          • @kaleidoscope: Yes, also Betta homes refused to match Bing lee…

          • @kaleidoscope: I have matched with them before and the item was $400 cheaper. No issues

  • +1

    WA excluded as usual

      • +6

        🎻😭😂😂😂

    • -3

WA is like a different country

try to read this with and without commas around "like"

      • +1

It's one third of this country 😎💪

    • What's WA?

      • Washington

  • +3

Make sure to measure before getting this, it's HUGE

    • Why thank you Sir!

    • Owners manual recommends 15cm from either side and 10cm clearance from back for proper ventilation and longevity of the unit.

      • Cm or mm? That's massive

        • +2

          it’s cm 😅.
Small correction, it’s 15cm from top and 10cm from sides. Here’s a photo from the manual. https://ibb.co/xfPv7tw

    PSA:
I bought one of these for myself, and two for family.
All three died within/just out of warranty. An absolute war to get them refunded.
While it worked it was great (except Bluetooth/wifi interference). But don't buy if you expect it to work for more than 3yrs.
Not negging the deal, because it's a good product with TERRIBLE longevity.

    • -2

wifi interference is bad on mine. I think my router died because of it, not 100% sure. and it was an expensive router, so was pretty upset. end up getting a cheaper microwave as using these microwave inverters pretty much blocked my wifi signals.

    • +5

Got a similar model, MS4296OBS. Died at about the 3yr mark. Good microwave while it lasted, also killed bluetooth.

      • That was one of the three that died in my case

        • +1

Even though i knew it was a fruitless endevor, took it to a repair place. Gotta take this with a large grain of salt but they quoted >$150 to replace the controller board.. NOPE.

          • +3

@narz: I managed a full refund for two of them, failed on the third. Technically entitled to one under consumer law, but Good Guys, Jb hifi and Harvey Norman break the law.

    • Were the microwaves in those microwave boxes or other enclosed spaces?
I had one of these for 4 years before emigrating to Aus and had none of the common issues described except the wifi not working while it was running. I did try to position it as far away from the walls to try and adhere to the pretty extreme distance requirements in the manual. I wonder if that had anything to do with it or if I was just lucky?

  • +20

PSA for this unit. Press the 'stop/cancel' and 'inverter cook' buttons at the same time for 5-10 seconds to turn off the annoying noises.

    • +5

Holy shit it worked, thank you! We've had this microwave for nearly 3 years and all I could find online was "you have to rip out the sound chip, there's no other way". I'm glad I happened to come into these comments.

    • What noises? I'm on the look out for a new microwave (don't really care about any functions other than basic microwave/defrost).

      • +1

It plays a little jingle when it's finished. And plays every minute or so until you open it. I just turned mine off based on the comment above, much better.

        • Oh geez, yeah, definitely the way to go!

        • So you don't get any alert at all when it's finished?

I had one and the repetition drove me nuts, but I'd hate it if there was no noise

    • +1

I've never been able to silence this stupid thing. you deserve a thousand upvotes!

  • +1

Ours just died after almost exactly 3 years (just out of warranty). Some online reviews say the same and if you want to use any of the preset functions, you have to open the door to find the list printed inside then work out via the index which one you want. It’s a hassle

  • +4

Our 10 year old pana microwave has just carked it, on the look out for a new one.. But I've heard these LG's are crap and barely last 2-3 years.. (As per earlier poster)

    • I had a Pana, replaced with an LG, then replaced with a Pana again. Only thing I'd say is, if you gamble on this - get a refund not a repair if it fails. Then you could basically keep buying the same microwave and get 2-3 yearly renewals (such is their predictable failure)

    • I have a newish Panasonic Inverter, it absolutely rules.

  • +6

These are truly garbage. Good luck if they last even the warranty period. If only LG can make em like they used to.

    • +1

I wonder whether it's like an overclocked / under cooled unit? So it does well on Choice etc tests, but dies fast

      • +1

Choice aways seem to put LG and Samsung up the top of all their lists, however I doubt they really are always the best products (especially Samsung’s laundry appliances 🔥)

    • Still got the one that i bought with the mrs when we moved in together in 06. Still going strong, has never given us any issues

      • I have one from them too. Still going strong.

      • No issues with the microwave or the missus?

      • Nice one - is that one of the older models though?

  • +1

Those who had trouble with this one before - can you recommend a better brand/model? Even better if on sale. ta…

    • +2

For the price no - if you're comfortable with arguing with retailers on ACL grounds - I'd still get this. Get a refund in 2 years, buy again!
LG will hopefully learn a lesson after a bunch of full refunds.
For a higher price, in the past Panasonic was good. But not sure if that's worse now, so ymmv.

    • +1

The Panasonic Genius microwaves are good

  • +2

Have had mine since 2019 and still works fine.

  • +1

I have one.. dont rate it very much..
Its great value and a decent mw. We love the internal size.

But, you have to open the door for the main adjustments. Its ok to begin, but if you need to amend, must open door and redo.

you only have 10 and 30 second adjustments.. some things are inbetween as silly as that sounds.. reheating a beverage at 20s is too short, just.. but 30s is too much..

Lots can hsppen in that 10 seconds..

  • You can get it on Bing Lee eBay for $10 less using voucher

  • It's a 2.4GHz wi-fi killer. Other than that, it's pretty good.

  • +1

Price matched at JB HI-FI to use my $10 JB Perks voucher.
To my surprise, the basket link I received showed $189 instead of $199. A fortunate mistake from the support person. Lucky me!
Finally bought it for $179 using the JB Gift Card I received years ago with Telstra connection.

  • Thoughts on best small microwave?

  • +1

Buyer beware, when you pull on the door, you will drag the whole microwave forward.

    • +1 and 2.4 ghz wifi along with Bluetooth will chock when using this

  • +3

Be careful with this microwave. Brought the predecessor to this model, which only lasted 3 years. The problem is the inverter. It failed, which meant it wouldn't heat anymore. Have a look at the reviews. Ended up getting a Panasonic.

    • +1

Have had 2 break in this exact way - stops heating. All the reviews say the same. I moved to a Panasonic after that.

      • Feedback on Panasonic?

        • +1

It cost twice as much so not a fair comparison but I've noticed it heats faster and more evenly. Reviews are all glowing. But only had it half a year so can't say if it'll be worth it yet.

    • +1

Just saw your post after mine - yep mine failed under 3 years
How's the Panasonic & which one is it?

      • +2

Ended up getting the Panasonic 44L 1100W Cyclonic Inverter Microwave Oven (Black) (Retravision). It's about $100 more then the lg one. Had it since August without any issues.

Off topic, the name on the microwave is called "the Genius". The first microwave my parents got was a National Panasonic Genius, which they brought in the early 1980's. They ended up replacing it only a couple of years ago.

        • which they brought in the early 1980's

where did they bring it from?

    • That bloody magnatron

  • +1

The magnetron in ours lasted less than 1 year, and it took 6 weeks to repair it.
The user interface is frustratingly illogical.
    It cooks evenly though.

  • After seeing this deal, did some searching and found a sale on the Panasonic Inverter Microwave.

I've posted it here if anyone is interested:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/741394

    • I have this one. It’s failing with the door latch issue which seems common according to Google. At least it’s more than 3 years for me. Have been looking for a new one and it seems it’s impossible to find a good and reliable microwave nowadays. Or is it too much to expect a microwave to last more than 5 years?

    • For Panasonic I'd say this is a better deal

      • You can check the reviews. Same door latch issue and will fail after a few years as well.

        • Yea seems Panasonic is now almost on par with LG in terms of longevity or lack thereof.

      • -2

That's white. Will look good if your kitchen is 40+years old

  • +1

Mine failed in under 3 years

    • Were you able to make a warranty claim?

      • Lost the receipt (first time I couldn't find one).
I would have tried even though it was about 2.5 years old

  • I have discount code i want to use and i cant see an option anywhere to add.
Edit: I found it. Just had to expand order summary
By the way try code WELCOME20 for 20$ off for first time user

  • -1

This microwave kinda sucks when heating food back to back, first heat up is ok, all the ones following come out cold for me until it cools down again.

  • At 199 in goodguys commercial and 203 in jb commercial. No coupon codes can be applied.
