  • are those right pans tefal or is it some patented tech?

  • so.. works with iron and steel pans but not aluminium?

    • Should work with anything magnetic (so not aluminium) as it "induces" heat via magnetic fields. Apparently not all stainless steel will work but some will.

    • +2

There are some aluminium pots that have a layer of steel the base, for the very purpose of making them induction stove compatible. But most are not; check with a magnet. If it sticks, you're good. (There are some induction cooktops that can heat aluminium stoves, but they're rare and quite expensive).

  • Does this one have a steady heat, or does it ramp up and down?

    • +1

One of the Amazon reviews reports a "perfect simmer". I've only just ordered it though. Maybe there are some experienced OzBargainers who can answer?

    • +2

In one of the reviews - "In the 200W to 1000W ranges the output is fixed at 1000W pulsed. Above 1000W the output is as selected, and constant."

But then there's others that say it can do a consistent simmer fine, and it has temperature control mode.

    • +2

I have one and i can confirm it cuts in and out for lower heat settings.

This product feels light and flimsy, but mine is over 2 years old and still going strong.

  • Thanks Mister. Bought for hot pots.

Choice tested this model and 5 others about a year ago.
This rated 6th (last) at 75%, with lowest ratings from all of them for both low heat control and high heat control.

Surprisingly the Ikea one for $59 got 2nd place (86%), with a Westinghouse model for double the price getting 1st (88%). These were the only two that got a recommended nod.

    • +1

Ikea one has been great and also looks stylish, has a handy hook for storage which is a bonus.

But now $69, I thought I got it for $49 a few years back.

      • Agree. The Ikea one works great and if anything happens to the unit within 12 months, take it back to Ikea and get a replacement/refund.

I own Kmart's anko Induction Cooker. It works fine and seems to handle a decent temp range. I cook very basic meals so I'm easy to please.

  • +3

Food is healthier with this? Or do we no longer have advertising standards?

  • Does this have a fan, and if so is it noisy? Have the kmart one which i use for hotpot and it sounds like a jet engine is taking off. Also really want it to be able to do a simmer, whereas the kmart one can only do 80 or 100 degrees.

    • YouTube dude says it's noisy;

      • +1

It certainly has a noticeable fan sound that I didn't expect . I'm considering returning it

        • Cheers. The noisy fan diminishes the experience of hotpot so thankyou for the real world experience.

      • +1

Thankyou for the link. I'll give it a miss

  • This looks to be the same unit as the Lenoxx Induction Cooker IC400
    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/lenoxx-induction-c…

    • +1

Look like exactly the same reviews, too.

  • Be warned these portable induction stoves have a small coil. Ok for boiling water but frying can be challenging with a hot spot in the middle of the pan.

  • Bought it at $59.95 in March this year from Amazon.
Another 17% reduction in price today.
    Regret buying early hehe…

    • How is it?

      • +1

Aestheticall, induction cooker looks vey nice and clean, but I only used it two times during the parties for grill and hotpot/steambot only.
So far, no complain. Induction main advantages I observed is that it did not increase the surrounding temperature compare to gas or electric cooker. It heats-up and cool-down very fast compare to electric cooker. Easy to clean up after use due to the glassy surface.

I've used this model before. I wanted a way to cook steak outside so that I can avoid smoke inside the house.

Found that it wasn't hot enough. Left it for about 15 minutes to preheat my cast iron pan. Eventually just went into the house and used the gas wok burner on the stove instead.

It might be okay for other uses, but just found if you wanted really high heat I just wasn't getting it.

    • Hot enough to deep fry?

      • I have this model. It can definitely deep fry but only in small batches (otherwise it loses temperature too quickly and doesn't go back up soon enough).

    • That was exactly my plan.

    • +1

Gas cooking has been in the news lately.

Everyone with gas ought to get it checked for leaks regularly. Imo.

Bunnings have similar portable induction cooker Bellini 30cm portable cooker for $49.89 https://www.bunnings.com.au/bellini-30cm-induction-portable-…

    • That looks like it has an all-glass top, does it? If so, people really should buy one like that instead of the one in this deal. I saw the other day BCF have one too that is normally $100, but half price atm: https://www.bcf.com.au/p/germanica-ceramic-induction-cooktop…

The ones with those awful press-in contact buttons (as on microwaves and Fisher & Paykel washing machines) really are rubbish. The writing can come off, the clear over the top can get oil under it and separate away from the buttons, and the buttons themselves can get "stuck down" from pressing them too. I've had an all glass top one for several years now.

    • I just bought this (the bunnings one) - apparently they sell out very fast. Actually I got two for a kitchenette. Thinking I’ll need to use different PowerPoints to avoid shorting out the power.

  • Mine arrived yesterday, and just tested it out with a pot of water.

Doesn't seem to draw more than 1600w max, I feel a bit short changed.

When I cycle through the 8 increments, it shows no difference between 1000 and 1300. The rest have a decent jump. Anyone else done a power draw test?

    • That was fast - mine hasn't even shipped yet. ETA is Sunday.

      • Oh, arrived today, my bad. Shipped from Kemp's creek apparently.
