I was looking for a good deal on these when I came across this other 4TB Skyhawk HDD deal posted by @TheCandyMan2020.
But I was quickly put off when I saw both CMR and SMR variants of the 4TB in the listing. So started looking at other eBay listings and came across this one from the same Shopping Express store which is only about a dollar more, but doesn't have the nasty SMR variant listed anywhere in MPN section or in the description

For anyone looking for a cheaper NAS drive (like me) I think these are next best to the more expensive NAS dedicated IronWolf series.

EDIT : Shopping Express has updated the listing to include the SMR variant. So this IMHO is no longer a good deal, so marking as expired even though the price hasn't changed.

I was hoping to buy a couple after I got off work, was just about to do that when I saw** rocketpoweredmice's comment, thats a bummer!.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2022

  • PS: gg.tech365 is Shopping Express, so it will most likely be the same product.

    • But as I already mentioned the other listing has ST4000VX013 (SMR) listed both as a MPN and in the description, the Shopping Express Clearance listing doesn't. So you could return it if they send you the wrong one.

      • yeah but its hassle. im 99% sure they are the same just missing copy pasting…..
best is to msg them first asking, i think they respond quite fast (or call if there is phone number)

  • Earlier deal is $1.60 cheaper

    • You probably didn't read the description in my post ;)

Apologies i didnt read that .

Will the CMR variant be suitable for use in NVRs, or just stick with WD Purple?

They've justed edited the MPN to include the SMR version too

    • Thats a bummer!. Was just about to buy a couple of disks myself with a note to the seller indicating I only want the ST4000VX007 else cancel the order. Thanks for the update. I won't be buying these anymore.. back to searching….

      • Hi mate, I am looking to buy a surveillance hdd for Reolink 4k 8 MP 6 camera POE NVR system? I heard Western Digital - WD42PURZ purple is another good option but its much expensive than this seagate hdd. Can you please suggest is it a good buy for my requirement or I should only buy ST4000VX007 or Western Digital - WD42PURZ? Thanks

        • I bought a WD40PURZ for my reolink NVR back in June and it's been going great… I was worried about getting an SMR, but turned out the 2tb drive that was already in the unit was an SMR drive anyway, it didn't cause me any trouble, I just wanted more space for longer retention…

  • I thought CMR is more reliable? Any good deal for that?
