  • How well does the dual core perform? Anyone know?
From what I can tell it's 10nm so it's noticeably more efficient than 8th gen but 2 cores in 2022 seems too few.

    • +1

      Benchmark:

      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i3-1005G…

      Overview of the platform:

      https://www.anandtech.com/show/14664/testing-intel-ice-lake-…

Overall, pretty slow, about as fast as an 11yo i7 2600k. Yes, it's cheap, but is it good value? I don't think so, I think its better to spend more and get lots more.

    • I5 7200u performed well for office duties with no lag
But 128gb ssd is a concern, need minimum 256gb

      • I found the i5 7200u slow, unless it was really basic stuff

    • Its roughly twice as powerful as my pentium N5030, which almost runs win10 home ok on a laptop with 4gb ram doing basic home stuff without too much multitasking.

      • N5030 is 4 cores and 4 threads, and i3-1005G1 is just 2 cores and 4 threads, so N5030 is better?

        • It's all a bit complicated and it's not something you need to worry about because what really matters to you is whether you'll be able to use the computer to do the things you want to do.

The easiest thing to do is look here:
          https://www.cpubenchmark.net

Bigger numbers are better, and newer CPUs use less battery power to get bigger numbers.

However, the trick is to get what you need at a suitable price. You can get work done on a PC with a CPU rated at 2500, but I wouldn't pay money to buy one brand new.

        • Lots of slow cores generally perform worse than fewer fast cores.

    • This is the most salient comparison - the i5 8250u is the ubiquitous 8th Gen laptop CPU and it's the one you'll see increasingly in 4 year old refurb PC's on this site.

      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/3560vs3042/Intel-i3-100…

This i3 is absolutely fine for the ordinary things an ordinary person uses a computer for.

There are better laptops out there for this price but you'd have to buy second hand or refurbished.

If you want the security of a big retailer and a real warranty, this deal is as good as you're going to get.

  • is this eligible for the CYBER10 discount code?

    • I tried but it doesn't work
