Does anyone with experience using this have any feedback about this particular model? Thanks!

    • +3

Would like to know the same prior to pulling the trigger

I think it's very similar to the Deebot Neo (Aldi specific version) which I have. The mapping worked a lot better than expected and it's highly customisable - I can choose which areas I want to clean and the order I want to clean them in. It also 'mops' which is really just dragging a wet cloth around but does get rid of light stains and spills.
All in all, very happy although I don't have a pet.

    • +2

I got the same exact model on Amazon prime day and we're generally happy with it. I can confirm whatever @kohie said is accurate.
Our only complain is that when you attach the mop, it can't lift it so it will avoid carpets which means that it won't reach the areas that are "blocked" by carpets. I don't think you could find anything with auto-lifting mop functionality in this price range anyway.

      • +1

I concur. We run ours twice a day, morning with mop for the majority tiled area and then set it at night without and send it on the carpet areas

I had an awful experience with this particular model. I got it on sale to replace my Xiaomi Mi Bot. It relies on having to map out your house but the issue was the map kept getting corrupted. I replaced it after 1 month with a Roborock and never looked back.

      • +2

Same issue here with this model. Was great for around 6 months, but now it seems to get confused whenever it sees a reflective surface (eg. fridge) and corrupts the map. We've given up on it and are back to manual vacuuming.

The vacuum on its own is good. Very good suction power. However, here are the major issues:

      1. Often it will just randomly forget where it is and restart mapping. Even if it is left on the charging base.
      2. The software is bit finicky when it comes to dividing rooms. Unless you are pixel precise.
      3. Do not buy the auto-empty station if you have pets. It's a bad design with 2 emptying holes at the bottom of dust bin and station. The problem is that when you have lots of human and pet hair, it gets entangled not only in the brush, but also in the main bin. Then the auto-empty station is useless. You have to manually empty it anyway.

I am considering to sell mine and paying extra to get the Roomba i7 or newer with their tangle free rubber roller. Their auto-empty station and the accompanying dust bin has only one emptying hole, which means that hair doesn't get entangled.

      • I have the N8+ and pets and would agree with not buying the emptying station. Dog hair seems to be constantly tangled even with the youtube hack (cover 1 side with tape).

I think the software is also constantly forgetting where it is and can be temperamental (doesn't always follow through with scheduled cleaning).

The battery life is also short and it can't vacuum my entire 1st floor without returning to the dock to charge for a few hours (and I have to remove the stuck hair manually) then restarting the clean again (and removing the stuck hair AGAIN after).

Previously I had the Viomi S9 which I would recommend instead.

        • I have the T8 and same issue with it forgetting the map. Each time I have to let it 'recreate' the map, which takes hours, and then restore the original map with all the zones.

My hack was to take out the spring loaded covers at the bottom of the dust bin. Cut the connecting metal rod just past the half way point, to preserve the magnetic latch. Then finally glue one side (one without magnetic latch) to the bottom of the bin. This way, when the auto-empty station starts suction, it only opens one side. It doesn't work all the time because of smaller operating area and it complains that something went wrong or bin is not installed. I have to try a few times before the collected hair and dirt moves along and finally gets sucked out.

Either way, bottom line is don't get the auto-empty.

I love mine, I have a 2-bedroom unit, mainly carpet. runs twice a day. Mapping was fine for me, never failed me, I empty the dust bin and clean the brush every week and wash out the filter every month. It runs daily, however I don't have it set for weekends, as I am home, but I start it up once I leave the house. It works with google assistant, and once the rooms are mapped you can tell google to clean the kitchen if you have a spill. I don't use the mopping function. so, can't comment. I created virtual walls with the map, for my speaker stands, and anywhere I had cables, like behind the lounge. You can set the order the vacuum cleans the house; you can schedule rooms to be cleaned or the house to be cleaned. If it runs out of charge it will return to the base and charge up before completing its tasks. The only oddity I have noticed is if a door is closed to a room, it can't go back and clean that room, even if I tell it to. I have to do the whole unit again. its some strange quirk, that only my GF seems to be able to create. lol If anyone is having issues with the map, then my only suggestion is to clear any debris from the floor, set the vacuum to slow for the initial mapping, helps do it right the first time. open up the whole house and let it map it, then name the rooms and use virtual walls to avoid areas it may have trouble with. and helps make scheduling individual rooms easier.

    • Highly recommend this , I have both this from a different deal via ebay plus and it works well . Mopping have not tried as yet, both the others who had bought this had similar opinion on it being ok for light mopping.

  • +1

Looks like Amazon also have it for the same price with a voucher

    • Delivery time with Amazon seems to be a bit longer than ebay.

      • +3

        Probably easier to return though.

        • +1

Agreed, but if you want it before Christmas, you need to buy from ebay.

    $399 (RRP $999)

Don't be fooled by the inflated RRP. Seems that this is always 'on sale' for $400-600.

    • Which is why the ACCC doesn't like companies using this in their advertising.

Always astonished at the prices of vacuums. I have 70 dollar big w vac and others that work just as well and some even better as "so called" top brands. Waiting for the day these robots vacs are no longer seen as a crazy big ticket item.

I felt the same way… until I bought a Xiaomi 1C for $280ish a couple of years ago, and never looked back.
Now I only have to manually vacuum my house like once a year, and if I get the 1C to mop every other day, I only need to steam mop once a fortnight.
Easily one of the best purchases I have ever made, and given how much use I've gotten out of it (and how much time it has freed up for me), I would happily buy a more expensive model next time.

  • Is this better than XiaoMi? Had the XiaoMi for 4 years now.

  • +1

So people were paying $999 for this thing?

    • Dont be fooled when jack is in the picture.

  • Apparently not very AI driven. If an object is moved from the mapped location, it apparently doesnt clean the designated area?

  • +1

I have the Deebot N8 Plus version. Have had issues with GPS and now have to send it in for a (profanity) brush fault. Pretty annoyed. When it works it works, though.

    • GPS? Do you mean the map it makes?

      • Sorry yeah I meant its mapping system. It keeps deleting the map and not detecting the saved map. One trick I advise anyone who do get this is to restart the Deebot in a kitchen area. For some reason it always retains the map if started there.

  • +1

I'd pay more and get the N8+ which has the self cleaning vacuum.

Or the T8+ with the free Osmo Pro mopper..

To resolve the map location issue, make sure your WIFI signal from your router is strong. The Deebot uses WIFI strength to also determine which stored map matches its location.

Any thoughts of this vs Dreame D9 max, which can be had for ~$250?

    • +1

This has been a question I have asked myself for the past week. Tonight I've read one too many negative comments about the N8 so I just bought the D9 Max.

      • I believe the dreame still works with vaulted I for those that like it
I’ve got an old S55 and valutedo is awesome

    • +1

The Dreame D9 Max is a better buy @$250. Better reviews and better app.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/738620

      • but the seller feedback is shocking, 80% positive feedback?

  • Can anyone rec a vacuum only (no need for mop) with auto empty? And a map that isn't a PITA like this brand sounds like. I nearly bought the S7+ on ebay for $1200, or the Q7+ for $999

I've already got an S5max, which is great but I hate emptying it. I've only used the mop once, but I've only just started using the features properly and realised the full potential of this amazing thing. I feel like the auto empty would be life changing

    • If you are considering auto-empty, don't go for Ecovacs. If you can extend your budget or wait for deals, go for Roomba. After seeing one in action at a mates place with huskies, I was sold on the idea or replacing my Ecovacs.

  • +2

I made a $399 offer which was accepted. If you do the same you can then also add the Black friday discount code to bring it down to about $310.

Personally, I decided to get the Dreame D9 Max over this. Offered $320 and used black friday discount to get it for $249.

    • Is dreame the same as xiaomi ? I am a bit concern about the seller feedback for the dreame store

    • I just did that and saved another $88 on top. Thanks for the pro tip!

  • This or Roomba i7? Short carpet and tiles, no pets but a lot of long hairs.

  • 50 votes but only one voted ozbargainer has commented? Hmm…

  • worst app ever, creates phantom maps , messes up the saved ones, this happens every few days , gets very frustrating, save your money and get a different brand

  • +1

DO NOT BUY ANY ECOVACS. THEIR SOFTWARE AND APP IS FLAKEY.

    • What should I buy?

    • Agreed duck ecovacs.
      What would you recommend?

      • +3

I can't recommend one. The only one I have owned so far is the ecovacs. The app and the software are trash. You have to constantly refresh it while it is running to see where it is up to. It deletes maps. It saves maps over other maps to form mutant maps. Rooms and sections are difficult to set up. It cant find the charger even when it is right in front of it, which is bizarre, as I understood that the charger has i.r. locators on it. I should have taken it back when it started this crap, but I persevered with it, thinking it was just a set up issue. Also setting up for separate maps upstairs and downstairs gets it all confused. Then it decides to delete and start new maps to save over the ones already saved. I have re done the maps hundreds of times, but it is a waste of time. i just use it as a dumb vac in one area now. I will chuck it when I decide what brand to get. it wont be a chinese one. it will be an american brand that has people who can code, doing their software.

        • I have re done the maps hundreds of times

But have you tried to resolve it with the seller/manufacturer?

          • @Azro: The flakey software and app is a known issue. I doubt that they are going to re invent their crap app etc if I complain about it. This has been happening for years. They have done zero about it. They want you to buy their new wiz bang model with camera eyes instead.

        • It cant find the charger even when it is right in front of it

haha I feel your pain. I watched it try to return home with a dining table between it and the charging dock (~4 metres). After 15 minutes of it bumping around under the dining table instead of just going around, I just picked it up and placed it back myself.

I will chuck it when I decide what brand to get. it wont be a chinese one.

Roborock is chinese, but I have the s5 max and I can't fault it. App is amazing too.

  • Yeah look I have had one for 18 months and the actual function of the vacuum is good. The problem is the mapping it constantly resets and changes maps and youll have a day were it only does one room because it thinks thats the new map

  • Bought one for myself and parents - would NOT recommend.
Concur with software issues people mention. My parents one has had two issues. First was broken brush after only a month of use - support sent a replacement brush. Second issue is the vacuum refusing to sit on its charger. Been going back and forth with support for weeks, they’re pretty hopeless and obviously an outsourced centre. I sympathise for the agent, but am frustrated by the company.

Mine has been okay apart from the other map issues people have raised.

  • +2

I've had one since July (bought for $420ish) and it's been great in a two bedroom unit with hard floors and a very hairy cat. It does occasionally get confused (about monthly), but it's never fully lost a map - placing it in an open area and letting it run sorts it out, the mapping overall is pretty reliable. Otherwise hard to fault! Sorry to hear about others' issues, mine's been fine.

  • Should I return my Dreame D9 and get this instead? yAy or NaY

    • The Dreame D9 doesn't seem to have as bad map issues as the N8 does.

      • How is the cleaning quality, carpet cleaning etc overall as compared to N8? Thank you kindly

  • Still available in this listing: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/383217473421

  • This is only sold for 300 AUD in other regions. I'll pass.
