  • so this is like a knock off pokemon game??

    • It's honestly better, MMO pokemon game.

    • +8

I think if you're tired of Gamefreak churning out garbage game after garbage game, but you like the general formula of that series, Temtem is a breath of fresh air. The respective metacritic scores seem to attest to that too.

    • +5

Modern Pokémon games are knock offs of real Pokémon games. The series ended after X/Y.

      • +1

It ended after red, blue, yellow

      • +1

@PainToad I agree! I'd go even further and say it ended with the DS games though.

        • I liked X/Y. Sun/Moon were trash but. That’s were they went all in on solely targeting kids and Pokémon Go casuals.

  • +4

Price matching EB, might be useful for those who have discounted gift cards

  • -6

It's like you can afford a pokemon you get temtem

  • Was going to get but "Nintendo online membership is required" Does that mean you have to pay extra to play the game?

    • Yeah I think its online only.

    • Yes. I was thinking that was the case. It’s basically a mmo game

  • Good one to price match with JB and use perks voucher.

Game looks good, about time pokemon got some decent competition

  • +10

This game's inherent problem is it demands an internet connection to play (therefore a membership) and is a premium priced release.

Doesn't bode well for longevity and active player base. Once servers go down it also makes the game effectively useless

    • +6

Thanks, I cancelled it after this. What’s the point of a physical copy of a game that requires servers….
Kind of like Lego worlds, except at least that let’s you proceed

      • +3

To access the game for $36 instead of the digital PS5 price of $63?

Any access to the game requires servers, this is irrelevant if you want to play.

      • +1

Shame, you’re missing out on a lot of good games that are online only.

    • Jeez why would they do that?

    • +4

Thanks for the reminder, almost forgot that this is more like a MMO than single player Pokemon type of game which requires an internet connection and online subs for consoles.

    • +1

It’s a MMO. You’re missing out on a lot of good games if you’re only going to play offline, single player games. But up to you. Myself, I don’t care if a $36 game I play for 100 hrs won’t work in 10yrs.

Also, it’s cross platform so it will have a population for a long time. It’s currently absolutely packed with people.

      • +1

And you're missing out on a lot of great single player games if you sink hundreds of hours into MMOs. Kind of a silly fallacy.

Gamers are also missing out on a lot of great books, TV shows, movies, social interactions, sporting events, etc, etc. for every second they're playing a game.

Spend your life how you want to. You can enjoy Temtem without needing to justify it. I just found this piece of information important for people who may not intend to play this game right away.

  • +3

One of the best Co-op games around, highly recommended for anyone who likes the monster taming , JRPG-lite formula but wants the game to actually run and not look like it was developed for your phone.

  • Maybe when it's $18

    • Is it not very good?

  • Is a good rule of thumb that the Xbox version will always be better than the Switch version of games?

I guess there's also the question of, if I have youngish kids do I want them to be able to play in the car/their room if they're interested, but that's more personal choice.

    • +1

whenever a game is on switch and ps5/xbx i always pick switch as long as its a good port because i like being able to play it handheld and switch games typically have better resale value but thats just me

    • +1

Well, from a graphics perspective the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch are both running outdated hardware, so the game probably runs at something like 720/900p 30fps with low graphics.

Whereas the Xbox Series X runs Temtem at 2160p 60fps with medium-high graphics.

Downside of the Xbox is no handheld support, unless the game comes to Game Pass in which case you'll be able to play it on your phone via Cloud Gaming with Xbox Series X level graphics.

  • Cross play la?

  • I also would like to know about cross-platform play, and how long is this deal going to be available for?

    • how long is this deal going to be available for?

While stocks last at Amazon or whoever they're price matching. Only 1 Switch copy left.

There is cross-platform play and progression. If you want to know more Google might be a better source.

  • sorry boys had the last one, a bit hesitant over the online thing though haha
have no idea about, will watch review about the online stuff

    • i ordered mine for switch when i first saw the deal, i originally played when it launched on discords games section then got moved to steam for its official release it's a fun game and i think being able to play in bed or any other way will be great

  • It's the same price at EBGames and they have Switch stock, i just got one myself, in case anyone is interested.

  • Got one from Ebay ebgames, used code XMAS12, 12% off, paid less than $32 with discounted ebay giftcard
