These were often 20 bux thereabouts during catalogue sales over the years …

Has inflation gone that bad ?

I mean $29 is close within fully synthetic price range

    Not full synthetic.. no deal

    • By this logic.

Synthetic ugh Boots are a bargain.

      Woolen ugh boots are not.

        What the fugh?

      • Synthetic oil is good. Synthetic ugh boots are not.

        Consider yughself educated.

    • This oil is perfectly fine for older cars that only require 10W-40 oil of this grade.

Whilst historically this might not have been a good deal, I've noticed oils in general have gone up lately and it's been harder to find the sharp discounts on some of them. So if someone needs this oil in the next month, then I'd say this is a good deal.

  • Yeah nah

So only part of the oil with degrade over time and with heating and cooling. This is perfect for those who do oil changes every 6 months.

    • So if I use a full synthetic oil I'll never need to change it?

Is this good for my Tesla Model 3 performance?

    • +3

I use it in my Model S and have noticed a significant performance increase.

personal opinion feel free to down vote

I have used full and semi synthetic in Japanese made cars sedan hatch backs.. I have noticed zero difference for my daily commute to work.

Mind you i am racing between 0 to 40kmph on Parramatta and Victoria road.

This is a good deal, change your oil every 8000 to 9000km and your good to go.

If you drive something that is more performance orientated yes this is not the deal for you

    • The only difference I've noticed is that the colour of non-synthetic oil turns darker quicker than synthetic. Giving me the impression that the quality degrades more with use.

      • I'm not too sure about this one. Ive been told other stories how different additives makes the engine oil go black quicker to give the owner the impression to change the oil sooner.

I'm no mechanic but 8000km is my rule of thumb.

        • I'm about the same, oil always gets changed before the 10K mark which is usually between 8-9K and I use full synth anyway.

      • When I have rebuilt engines when I was a mechanic I noticed that cars that used synthetic oil were easier to rebuild as the inside of the block just needed a quick clean vs mineral oil needed hours of cleaning from the black burnt oil build-up and tarnishing.

    Camry should use 5w30

    • For every Camry ever made?

      • My Camrys manual says 15w-40

        • Your camrys manual will give a range based on expected temperatures. Youll find several weights cover Aus.

      • The newer Camrys (2018 onwards) recommend 0w-20 which is crazy thin and worries me if it actually protects the engine but I'm not one to doubt the engineers at Toyota.

Any oil is better then no oil i guess

        • They switched to 0W-16 as of about 2019. I'm glad my dealer is cheap and uses 0W-20 instead tbh.

@Dogsrule: My dealer was going to use 5W-30.

I supplied Penrite 0W-16 and the by rid Camry ran fine and didn't consume any oil between services. Obviously hard to know how it will go longer term, but I'd trust Toyota engineers to be speccing the right oil.

            • @stewy: Yeah 5W-30 is on the table in the owners manual as acceptable, but you can't go any thicker. We've got the same drivetrain in our hybrid RAV4 and 0W-20 seems to be the best compromise in my view. Gotta remember that Toyota engineers need to meet fuel economy regulations so if they can save 0.1L/100km by using thinner oil they will.

I'm sure 0W-16 will get the engine to the average age/mileage where the cars start to get scrapped anyway, but I keep my cars a lot longer than most. Bought a 2010 Prius new, used 5W-30 instead of the 5W-20 that was the factory fill and is still going @ 370k kms with minimal oil consumption - meanwhile many other owners are reporting oil burning at lower mileages than me.

Each to their own of course.

    • Been using 5w30 since day 1 with 8000km oil changes and my 2013 Camry has been running smoooooooth like new. 10W-40 is a bit on the thicker side…

  • I use this stuff in my backup generator. Nice n cheap.
