What Mobile Plan Is Everybody on These Days?

The only reasonable one for me appears to be Optus's $90/PM plan which is 'discounted' to $70 per month for 500 gigs - otherwise, it's like $60 a month for 100gigs.

Comments

  • Mate Bundled $25 for 22Gb p/m, 4G plan.

With that said, I rarely ever use it all have banked up 200+ Gb's. Saved my arse when I moved house, had to WFH but the NBN wasn't set up yet.
And I also act as a back up Hotspot for my missus who uses an ALDI prepaid.

  • Mate communicate $25 sim only plan for me, $20 for the misso. Used to be on the $30 but they just keep upping the data allowance and banked cap (500gb atm). Never really had an issue, speeds are good, coverage is good, cost is good… don't think I'll ever buy a phone on a plan ever again.

  • Currently on 55gb/month Amaysim for $9/28days, will be switching back to Boost.

  • Auspost 7.5/month for 2gb.

  • I switch between, but currently Amaysim. 30GB for $15 per month. I switch when it reverts to $30 per month.

  • Telstra, $45 month, 80gb data, 30min overseas calls that I never use. Travel rural Victoria alot do want piece of mind.

Does any other retailer use the full Telstra network? Reading contradictive reports

    • Boost might save you a few shekels. It's the only one with full Telstra and 5G.

  • Boost 140GB $200 sim for $150 (goes on special all the time) = ~11gb & $12.50 per month. Telstra network with unlimited NZ calling.

  • facebook messenger + whatsapp + discord + skype plan

  • Coles Mobile = $120/year (discounted from $150)
Unlimited Call + Txt + International calls
150GB for a year (plus rollover from previous year).

I mainly work from home using WiFi, so I don't need heaps of data.

  • Boost 140GB. Haven't had any issues since I started using them a few years ago. Terrible reception at home, but I had trouble with Optus too.

  • Jb $69 that had a gift-card.

Doubt I’ll ever leave Telstra, unless my circumstances change.

  • Spintel, $12.95 a month. 5GB. Also has international roaming (so I can receive sms).

    Can't justify anymore…

  • Just rang Telstra to continue my $10 credit on a $58 plan I've had for a few years which has increased from $40 over time. They flat-out rejected continuing it. Customer of 23 years. Stuck with an apple watch with TelstraOne $5 but will be moving my internet from them and reading this thread with great interest.

    Coles $120 for 1 year

  • +1

    Boost pre-paid has my vote

  • $26 optus with 20GB

  • Belong have been the best for me for a while now.
    - Owned by Telstra and use all their towers except mining towers.
    - Unlimited Calls & text + international for an extra $5 a month or on higher plans.
    - Data banking (Indefinitely keep the data you don't use)
    - Can gift data to anyone else on Belong
    - 5G on all plans (capped at 100Mbps) and throttled to 1Mbps if you use all your data
    - $15 per month for 5GB, upto $45 a month for 100GB, more if you go a pure data plan for hotspots etc.
    - Their data plans dont offer data banking, however you can still transfer to any belong mobile plan

I jump on the $45 plan for 1 month then downgrade to the $15 plan until i consume all the 100GB which typically lasts me a few months as im almost always on some sort of wifi.

The only thing I wish they would offer is the ability to receive SMS's while international so I could get verification codes for stuff like banking while overseas.

Is the 15 dollar plan still in existence? On their site it looks like it starts from 25. Still looks like really good value with the limitless data banking/gifting.

      • it still exists, you just have to select it when logged into the app/website, guessing that makes your first month $25 which sucks.

They used to have a $10/2GB plan but that went away a year ago, they even forced people off it so i guess "plan grandfathering" doesn't exist anymore

        • Awesome thanks, I'm about to sign up for belong, so we'll see how it goes.

  • Kogan - $12.5 for 41gb/month

Was previously circles $8 for 50gb/month

  • I am on the JB Hi Fi $99 Per Month 300GB Plan.
But I do have a few savings, $10 JB Hi Fi Promo Credit and a $20 Telstra Port In Credit bringing it down to $69pm for 24mths.

Add the $1200 GC in from JB Hi Fi and the price is affectively $19pm for 24 months,

  • Amaysim 4 gig a month with excess data banking for $10 month.
Thank god I havent been sucked in to walking about texting and holding my phone and walking into people

  • Surprised not more people said Amaysim! Especially after the black friday plans they were offering!

  • The GOAT November 2021 Amaysim Cashrewards deal, 60GB, 12 months for like $35 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/666005

  • Kogan.

$90 for 1 year, 120gb for that whole year. Unlimited standard call & text - Usually $120 but got it on a targeted discount.
both at home and at the office i have wifi, so don't really use much mobile data.

Kogan knows when my 1 year pre-pay is nearly up, so i wait till last minute (usually up to 48 hours before my plan expires), at that point they usually send me targeted deals to keep me with them.
One of those rare cases that me not being pro-active about something actually works in my favor

  • I am on a planless plan
this age old carrier takes money from my bank and sometimes puts some back.
Most of the time it sort of works. It used to work much better then the many comrades here put us into a 4th world league!

  • All the boost deals where I make a profit from CR!

  • $40 a month for 100gb with Optus.
I got spot the kids iPads and listen to podcasts and Apple Music in the car.
I don’t use the whole 100gb but less data costs more now.

  • Just on a month-to-month SIM-only plan with Telstra (through JB Hi-Fi) which costs $35/month (after the $10/month discount for porting from Optus) and came with a $200 JB Hi-Fi gift card… this was all from '18 I believe. Gives me 50GB/month with good enough 4G speeds and coverage so no complaints!

  • I’ve just renewed on that Optus plan and have an old free sim that shares the data from that plan. I have this one in a 4g router at home. 500GB at full speed and uncapped at 20Mbit after that is enough to cover all scenarios for me personally.

I get 5g on my phone when I am out and about with awesome speed, 4g on the router regularly tests at 30Mbit+.

  • Catch Connect $15 p/m - 18 GB data

  • Can’t beat circles life for lots of data and great value

  • TPG (Vodafone network), have a deal that if you bundle NBN and mobile, you get 120GB mobile data for $30 a month ($15 for first 6).

Since I commute by tram/bus I need all that data, I have noticed the reception isn't as good as Telstra though, both on 5G and 4G.

  • The $25 woolworths mobile plan. 10% off a shopping session at woolworths every month almost pays for it completely.
    Telstra network.

  • Does anyone use more than 20GB/month? If so, what are you doing? No matter how hard I try, I don't use more than 5GB/month, but I do have wifi at work and home.

    • youtube and videocalls. Videocalls eat up data the most IME.

  • Stuck with lebara with maxed out data bank. Waiting for recharge deals.

  • +1

Woolies $140 for 100gb a year is a no brainer for me. Telstra wholesale coverage (heaps better than Optus at least for me), 10% supermarket discount is awesome too. I mostly work from home these days, so this deal is perfect for me. Heck even if i have to buy it twice a year, the 10% off is still good.

  • I'm on the $10/month amaysim with 4gb data and unlimited calls, txt, mms within Australia.

  • +1

I just buy boost sims when they are free with cashback and port between them and whatever sims are free like Gomo or felix

Long before Belong there was a service called GRL mobile. Anybody remember them?

    • I can only remember 3 and Crazy John, probably I am not old enough.

      • Long time ago i think 2010 I got the last startup sim from Dick Smith. Went online to activate and went perfectly well on the Vodafone Network.
Eventually I had to ring them and found GRL stood for girl mobile, LOL! Apparently I was the 2nd man caught not knowing that acronym.
Sadly they went bust like other under-priced ones.
        Will Amaysim survive?

  • Woolies mobile $150 for 100gig 12month expiry.

Works out to $12.50 a month and I use less than the 8.3gb per month. Most of my usage is on WiFi, so it's mostly just spotify while driving.

The 10% off groceries once a month literally pays off more than the plan itself, so it's even better than a free phone plan…

  • Aldi $15 prepaid long expiry(365 days)

    • Do you have 4G turned off?

  • Amaysim. 100gb/month with rollover and free international calls for $30/month. I've got 1.58TB stored up. Aaargh.

    Boost 12month 260GB for about $230 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/742950)
Under $20 per month and full Telstra 5G. The only annoying thing is you need to port out and back at the end of the year to use it as a recharge.

    • +1

Except you don't have to port out and back in. In my experience with three Boost accounts, you can ask their chat operators to do a SIM swap of your existing number onto the new SIM. Effectively a recharge, you just need to put the new SIM into the phone.

  • Kogans been fine. Had a corp work issued telstra plan and voda had better coverage. Blue mountains

    Paid $240 for 3 x 250gb plans 12 mths

    • +1

Absolutely. Don't know why people are complaining about Kogan. Maybe they live in a (profanity) area? IDK. I've tried Catch connect (Optus) then switched to Boost (Telstra). Eventually went back to Kogan.

      • Kogan's other products aren't that good imo, but mobile is superb value and shook up the market back in the day, as did Woolies, Best

  • Aldi mobiles $25 plan

  • i buy my phones outright. I'm on Woolworths $30 a month for 32GB. They use the Telstra network and you can get 10% off a shop each month.

  • Any suggestions for a family of 3 with a shared data pool (Optus or Telstra network ok)?
Currently paying $155/month for circa 515gb/month pool on Optus depreciated plans.
    Family barely using 100gb/month combined.

    • +1

Belong or Woolworths double data at the moment. No data sharing as such, but can data gift between accounts with both. Telstra wholesale network

  • Annual Kogan plan when they had a 2 x 1 deal, works out to be around $11/month for 20GB! Not the best service at times but can't complain for that price.

  • $12.50 Vaya
Unlimited text and calls plus 6 gb.

    Plenty for me.

  • Quite an old Telstra plan through JB Hi-Fi, $45 a month for 40GB (use most data most months).

  • Amaysim $30 - No point upgrading to 5G as we live in an Optus 5G coverage hole. We have 1000/50 FTTP at home though.

  • +2

    I changed to Boost $300 prepaid 12months 280GB (240+ 40)

it was around $220 posted on OzB around Feb.

    Works out to be $18.50ish - 23GB a month.

Use data faster than previous network (AldiMobile) because the coverage is MUCH better and get legit 5G coverage now so i do have to manage my usage a bit closer.

  • -1

Telstra Ultimate plan - $160 per month. Unlimited data (including 5G at full speed and no restriction on tethering), unlimited international calls to any country, 10GB with unlimited calls while roaming in eligible countries. Also has new phone feeling although im not sure how that would work now and insurance for a phone I no longer have. Its a lot per month but pays for itself when traveling.

    • I only know they had $199 / Ultimate plan unlimited 4G but once your contract expired you can’t renew as they phrased out this plan. Is this the same plan you are talking about?

      • With amway at the time it was 20% off plan cost. It was unlimited 4G yes as there was no 5G at the time. 5G now. Its month to month after contact. Havent migrated yet.

  • +1

    $83.5

  • $83.5 for 365 days with 160 gb data. WFH so don't use cellular data that much. Sum plan amaysim

  • Boost yearly plan

  • +1

Maybe what we need is a VOTING POLL

  • Boost mobile $200 yearly

  • Vodafone $40 pay as you go plan for 365 days + belong data sims which I redeemed $80 belong sim for 2000 Telstra points.

  • Belong, signed up last NY last year, and got the double data for 12 months. Data rolls over, so sitting on well over 1.5tb of data, will drop down to the cheapest plan soon.

    • How it the coverage in your own experience ?

      • Turn on your private messaging please.

      • Generally quite solid, don't find any more black spots vs other providers I've had. Obviously YMMV based on location etc. but find within Sydney city, whether its TPG/Voda, Optus or Telstra, coverage remains quite solid; generally speaking.
