What Mobile Plan Is Everybody on These Days?

The only reasonable one for me appears to be Optus's $90/PM plan which is 'discounted' to $70 per month for 500 gigs - otherwise, it's like $60 a month for 100gigs.

    Belong

    • -3

Does that have calling as wwell?

    • how do you rate belong's coverage?

      • -1

It's just Telstra is it not? It's certainly better than when I was on Amaysim, which is Optus. At least when in certain rural areas anyway.

        • +5

It's the slightly scaled down Telstra, like most their resellers. But I find it's still significantly better than Optus and Vodafone in regional areas.

I also find belong to be really good. The data banking allows you to swap plans, so I just do a month of their most expensive (but best value) data plan then drop it down to $15/month.

Belong also have 5g on all plans.

        • +7

Boost is the only Telstra reseller to get the full network
All the others have a significantly hamstrung network (noticeable in rural arears) to the point where Vodafone and Optus have better coverage.

          • +1

@Drakesy: Depends on area. I signed up to Belong due to an area I was in having zero Optus coverage. Belong gave me coverage in that area.

          • +1

@Drakesy: I wouldn't say coverage, but rather speed.

      • +9

I use boost as it uses 100% Telstra network. Why does one need 500 gb of data per month?

        • +18

Why does one need 500 gb of data per month?

You are not supposed to ask such questions like that in public forums.

    I am on a $16 plan.

Don't be any more specific whatever you do.

        I am on a plan.

        • +2

          Is it the best plan?

  • +19

    $35 month Felix ∞(unlimited) gigs 20Mbps

    • +6

As long as you have Vodafone coverage this is the best bang for buck plan, with amazing extras (overseas $5pm & roaming $20 12 months 4gb)

    • Can you use it as a wifi hotspot?

      • +2

        Yes

  • +1

Gomo esim $15 pm first month free data rollover

  • +28

    Are you talking phone plan?
as seems crazy to me someone needs 100-500 gig a month for a mobile plan :/
As that's definitely a very small market segment

  • +17

    aldi

    • I also use Aldi, great value for what I require.

    • +3

I was with Aldi for years.. then I had to call their call center once and I just had to leave them out of principle
They kept hanging up on me when they couldn't fix it (there was a mobile outage in 1 area)

    • +3

I used Aldi until the 2019-2020 bushfires. I had several phones with them, personal and "work" for a charity that I run which provided emergency food relief. The phone for emergency food relief was left behind after a staff member evacuated and I range Aldi to get a call diversion placed on the phone and they refused. They said I had to get the phone or a new SIM. The two closet Aldis were around 2 hours way if the roads were not blocked; however they were. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told they would call back. I said this was an emergency, that the phone was used to provide emergency food relief and they had 1 hour to respond.

I went and got a Woolworths SIM and ported over. I was extremely stressed and mucked up the process so had to call Woolworths Mobile. They transferred me to an Australian support supervisor who sorted everything out and I was reconnected before the call was finished. The fellow that helped me was sensational and extremely helpful. I have since moved 2 other numbers over to Woolworths.

About 2 hours later I had a call from Woolworths. I advised them that I had ported over the number due to their poor performance. Never considered Aldi since.

      • Yeah, I don't think Aldi's support is great. But I've also not had to deal with them for years

      • -1

"About 2 hours later I had a call from Woolworths. I advised them that I had ported over the number due to their poor performance."

It was a great story until you screwed up the telling of it

        • Typo - should have been Aldi.

  • +16

Woolies mobile with 100gb per 365 days. Got it for mum too so steal some of the data.

    • +19

If you have a family and do your grocery shopping at Woolies then the $150 (currently $140) 12 month prepaid plan is a no-brainer because it is better than free given it gives %10 of your shop back every month.

      • -1

The 10% shopping discount on sim is being scrapped though.

        • +5

          What? Really?

          • +2

@Caped Baldy: Can get 10 percent off at Woolies once a month on the Everyday Rewards Extra Card. It costs $59 a year or $7 a month.

            • @BluebirdV: you can get both currently

              • @Kegsta: Can you stack them and get 20%?

                • +1

@BluebirdV: nah, just 2 shops per month.

I currently enjoy 10% off my shop at Woolworths as a Woolworths Insurance, Mobile or Credit Card customer. Will I get another 10% off each month from Everyday Extra?
Yes! If you’re a Woolworths Insurance, Woolworths Mobile or Woolworths Credit Cards customer, you will receive a 10% Extra Discount from Everyday Extra each month in addition to your monthly discount from Woolworths Insurance, Woolworths Mobile or Woolworths Credit Cards.

You’ll have the option at the checkout to choose to use either your Extra Discount, or your Woolworths Insurance, Woolworths Mobile or Woolworths Credit Cards discount on your shop at Woolworths.

Please note that the Extra Discount cannot be applied to the same shop as your Woolworths Insurance, Woolworths Mobile or Woolworths Credit Cards discount.

        • +2

I just googled for info on this but didn't see any mention? Though some of the woolworths info pages about it are missing.

        • +3

          Source?

        • No saying you are wrong, but it's still being advertised and mentioned on their web-site in numerous locations.
I noticed they also upped the limit, max $50, when I joined it was like $15.
Currently it's 10% off one shop per month per EDR card… so yeah our family will be sad if this is removed.

      • +4

my first year cost $26.74 after 10% off's
        .

        • +2

Unfortunately with a family and the high grocery prices I am always in-front.

      • For someone light on data the $65 6-month plan is even better

    • Indeed.

  • +2

Telstra jb $59 w $500gc, have to go into store to renew every year though

    • +1

How are you renewing it if you are already on the Telstra JB Plan?

      • +1

30 day churn to optus usually

        • Is it not possible to use a prepaid $2 Vodafone starter pack and port your number? once you confirm the port has worked, the next day walk into JB and port back in?

    • This is usually how I do it too but with a new phone to resell.

Usually ends up with the phone plan being almost free for me.

    • They dropped it to $300 recently :(

  • +50

    Boost 12mts 140GB $140

    • I'm looking to switch when my plan expires this month, is getting expensive.
Probably switch to Vodafone 12m when discounted to $125 at Woolworth's

      • -5

woolworths and aldi mobile are a bit cheaper than boost with the same telstra network. They are adding VoLTE support by the end of the year.

        • +10

Woolworths and Aldi don't use the exact same network as Boost. Boost is the only mvno with access to full Telstra network 99.5% coverage, whereas others are wholesale network 98.8%.

          • +2

@BartholemewH: It should be noted that the difference in actual square kilometre coverage area between 99.5% of the population and 98.8% is about double. If you don't travel to anywhere rural then you might not notice, but half the benefit of Telstra is the increased coverage.

            • +1

@macrocephalic: Yes. With reception becoming poorer in my area on the 99.5%, no one I know would even consider the 98.8%. YMMV.

      • It's going to happen this Wednesday. I'm also getting my one for next year at this price.

        • Yep it's early this month, seems to be usually mid late in the month

    • +4

I'm in my second year of this, can confirm it's the same as Tesltra native network

    • Yep. Way too much data for me but it's still the best value plan that uses the Telstra network.

    • I used Boost 12months too but 260GB. It allows me a lot of free international call to my country and unlimited to some countries. If you buy it with promotional offer, it will cost you around 240$ a year which equals to 20$ a month. With Telstra coverage, it is a decent deal indeed.

  • +40

    $90 a month

    reasonable

    Lol

  • +2

    belong $10 a month.

    • +1

How are you still on the $10 plan? I thought they would have bumped everyone to the $15 one by now…

      • They're bumping people at different times. Surely close to the end of it by now though. I got bumped up a month or two ago.

  • +10

    $0 per month, sim slutting…

    • What’s this? Getting the cashback deals and swapping providers every month for a new one?

      • +2

Yep, primary number parked at Aldi, secondary ported each month to what ever is free.

  • +20

I struggle to understand why people are on a plan (unless they actually use a huge amount of data, which most people don't). The 12-month prepaid plans have been working perfectly fine for many years… Most recently Amaysim 180GB for $100 (awaiting -17.50 cashback).
