        i have been using for a long time on individual pc's so far so good. knock the wood

        • They do kinda get returned at a higher than average rate… especially their m.2 nvme drives.

      I only have about a dozen in service though, so my sample size is small.

    need a cheap 1tb ssd for a replacement for my 1tb usb drive.

  • Had this specific drive. Worked okay at first, but when the write speeds dropped to below 70mb/s - after formatting, TRIM etc - I was not impressed. I have HDDs that work faster!

    I'll stick to known brand QLC drives if I want cheap storage, but won't touch SP again.

    • How old is yours? Mine from 2020 is using TLC and did a good job for a DRAMless SSD. Have they replaced TLC with QLC now?

      • Probably about that vintage, but certainly not the speeds expected from TLC anymore. Modern QLC would be faster.

        The biggest gripe is that this wasn't always the case with my drive - it did indeed work as expected originally, and then no longer did so.

    • Doesn't that happen with any drive with SLC cache? Once it runs out of TLC for long term storage it starts using the SLC normally held aside for cache. One Intel drive I had 1:3 SLC to TLC, when it hit 75% full the write speeds dropped off.

      • I doubt it even had a cache allocation to be honest. It never had a burst period that slowed like other cached drives do.

        Even with caching as you described, the drive should revert to normal after a format, TRIM, whatever - and it didn't - so without any reasonable explanation for this behaviour, and no known way for me to resolve it, I'm going to avoid Silicon Power drives altogether.

  • Considering previous deals were $35 for 500GB and $55 for 1TB these aren't groundbreaking prices, but they're alright.

    Recently got 2 Kingston 240GB drives for ~$19 each so maybe just not as inclined to purchase as others.
