    Good amp.

I'd recommend it from beginners to intermediates as a single amp. Good enough for advanced players as a cheap budget travel or practice amp.
Does many tones decently but I wouldn't say it does any amazingly, but again for the price you can't ask for much more.
Gets pretty regular updates although updating is a bit of a pain.

Been considering a Spark for a while. Seems like a very versatile amp for home use.

Do it. I got a second hand one for $200 in mint condition about 4 months ago. It's been good fun playing with the tech and not fluffing around with pedals when practicing. I'm sure the purist's will always say real pedals sound better, and in reality they do, but for a hack like me it's a great opportunity to try a variety of tones that I wouldn't normally put $$$ towards.

I've kept my old made in USA peavey rage amp for clean tones though. Nothing beats that old relic to my failing ears.

      Do it

Already done, i bought before i posted the deal. cheers

Looks like they've also got a deal where you get a free gig bag when you buy the amp.

If you don't know what it means then there's a good chance you don't need it.

If you were in the market for a practice guitar amplifier then you would understand completely.

Positive Grid - is the manufacturer
Spark - is the model of amplifier
Amp - shortened version of amplifier

      • +9

Perfectly clear to me OP, great post.

      • -1

If you don't know what it means then there's a good chance you don't need it.

I play guitar and have never heard of it. Not everyone knows every brand of everything off the top of their head…

If you were in the market for a practice guitar amplifier then you would understand completely.

Then I'm guessing you aren't in the market for a new practice amp. This would be in the top search results of anyone researching for a new practice amp.

          • -1

            @Muzeeb:

This would be in the top search results of anyone researching for a new practice amp.

And if you don't rely on Google to tell you how to think, then what?

            • @1st-Amendment: You go to a music/guitar store where you may or may not come across this brand and option.

            • @1st-Amendment: I don't know, maybe look it up yourself without expecting to be spoon-fed on a deal forum?

Thanks and sorry for the confusion. There is no Musical Equipment category, which is why it is in Electrical/Electronics. And i did tag it with "Guitar Amplifier". Amp is a common abbreviation both in musical and electronic terms. For electronics it is more ambiguous - Op-Amp for operational amplifier, but it could also be short for Ampere of course. Also, it's best not to buy electrical equipment that involves sparks, unless you are looking for a welder. Anyway, cheers thanks

Not sure why you got modded down, but I guess this is OZB where the skin is thin and people are easily offended…
I play guitar and I thought the same as you, what is this, a guitar amp? I had to click on it to to confirm.

      • Imagine complaining about people having thin skin and being easily offended, and then in the same comment complaining about having to click a link to figure out the details of a great deal that was abundantly clear to most other people.

        • and then in the same comment complaining about having to

I didn't complain, I merely shared my opinion that I too did not recognise the brand even though I play guitar.
I'll give you a trigger warning next time. Warning! Opinion here may differ from your own…. 🤣

  • Just bought this last night on the end of the BF sale for $349.00

    • Has it been shipped?

I hacked the spark amp by wiring up a Ryobi one+ battery to it. Looks out-of-sorts now, but I don't care because now I have a portable amp/bluetooth speaker that can go anywhere and doesn't seem to run out of juice! 😆

    • +1

I've seen these mods online. As mine has no warranty left I might give this a crack.

      • +1

Shouldn't really have any effect on warranty anyway, it's not usually an internal hack. Can just velco the battery back to the back if needed.

  • +2

Feature rich and flexible but unfortunately IMO doesnt anywhere near compare soundwise to a dedicated half decent guitar amp. Mine went back in it's box a fortnight after purchase. Even my orangecrush12 sounds better.

    • +2

There was an earthing problem with some that caused a hum. Did you have this problem? They sent out earthed power adapters as a fix.

      • +3

Yes mate I did. I used an earthed laptop psu when i first got it which fixed the hum problem but just not happy with the overall sound. I stlill had PG supply me a new psu. Tried it out then back in the box…

Great Amps for any guitar/bass player that needs any of the following:

    a practice amp
a digital audio interface for recording
    a bluetooth speaker

it does a bunch of 'smart' functions when combined with the app. it can make backing tracks when you play a few chords for example. it can play back other songs and you can play along to that, and I believe it has some kind of lessons/learning stuff built in too (I have not used that.)

heaps of guitar amps and effects are built in and do well at imitating classic amps and effects sounds. you can download pre-configured tones too, user created ones for 'metallica' or 'guns n roses bass' for example. There is only a handful of Bass-specific stuff (from my last browse there is only a GK800 and a Sunn 300B amp, with plenty of bass specific effects to add on) but the guitar amps can be used for bass and vice versa.

it is compatible with garageband and can plug in to an ipad/iphone running garageband with the suitable USB adapter (USB A to Lightning on older ipads)

also compatible with windows/mac and plugs in as an audio interface.

The amp and effects pedal modelling is good and while the amp itself doesnt have the best overall sound due to tiny speakers it does a decent enough job. as a bluetooth speaker it gets uncomfortably loud - I mean seriously ear splittingly loud. its a 40W guitar amp, so make sure you're careful with the volume settings before testing playback.

The tone library of user created tones is basically limitless and you can submit and share your own too.

I use mine as a practice amp for bass and an audio interface to share demos and ideas with my band mates and friends who live too far away to jam with.

easily the best $350ish you can spend on an amp for a beginner or someone learning, or a guitarist that wants to play around with amp/FX modelling. You wont be playing any gigs with this amp, its too small for that. but plenty of power to jam with another guitarist and a bass player if everyones amps are around the same size. a Drummer will drown this out pretty quickly.

EDIT: forgot to mention that you dont need the APP to use this as an amp or a bluetooth speaker or audio interface for PC/Mac/iPad. if you just plug in a guitar and turn it on, it works exactly like any other guitar amp.

you DO need the app if you intend on customising tones/setups beyond the defaults beyond the presets (and you can still save 4 presets using only the tone controls on the amp) but if you want to select specific amps and pedals in combinations or use the play along/aux in analysis/lessons and other software features you need the app.

    • Thanks to you and OP - decided to give it a go! :)

    • I have the foot switch and unfortunately it only works with the spark amp via the app 😕

I bought an AirStep SPK BT pedal board a year or so back and, combined with the amp, it's a nice, little portable rig. Having a separate volume for additional input is a nice touch. Agree with the others who say it doesn't compare to physical pedals, but for just playing with the tones you can download, it's worth it if you've got a few spare bucks. I bought mine a few years ago on a BF deal and, with some Zip cashback deal, cost me around $260. If you buy one, I'm pretty sure you won't regret it.

  • +2

Darn i wish hey offered afterpay

  • +1

Great little practice amp, simple and easy to use. Phone app works well and allows jamming etc.

Personally I prefer my katana 50w I got 2nd hand. Has great tones but not as many bells and whistles as spark.. FWIW

  • +2

Awesome. Have been wanting one for a while so just ordered. Only $319 using $30 sign up code they sent me.

    • Where do you sign up from?

EDIT: Its at the bottom of the page, D'oh!

      • +3

I used code SEPOK1122J which I don't think is targeted. It removes the $20 code and takes $30 off.

  • +3

Looks like Mannys link matches the price

    • but don't see any free carry case with them ?

  • -2

    Save an extra $20 w/ code: SPARKGEAR20

The speaker is ok for a practice amp, needs to be off the floor or is a bit too bass heavy, in my opinion sounds great through headphones.

    • +1

I have the amp since release and as mentiioned in many comments and reviews, it has a really high bass even if you turn it down to the lowset from the amp bu they kinda fixed the issue with an update that pushed an EQ pedal that gives a really good control over the bass so now it sounds way better for sure.

      • Yeah the EQ pedal is fantastic

  • Just out of interest - has anyone put a vocal mic through this? If so, how did it sound?

    • +1

I have, sounded ok. Used this amp in a small church with microphone and it sounded ok. Because it's only 40watts, you have to max the volume.

Edit: I meant putting mic Infront of the speaker to amplify the sound, not using it is a speaker for Microphone if that's what you're asking.

OZBargain needs more guitar deals like this

    • Definitely. It also needs a specific category for musical equipment. Cheers

  • +1

Bought this in the pre launch and I've owned Marshall JCMs, Peavey 5150s and many other top amps and this thing kicks for its size and price. If you're looking for something at home I can highly recommend!

The one thing I wish it did have was a dedicated Looper but there's ways around it

    • +3

Speaking of looping check out Michael Lemmo in this video.

      Bloody legend.

      • I can watch that all day long :P

    • Get airstep. Its great

      • Yeah I got the spark control, should have got the airstep. Ah well.

  • +1

Match this with a TalentCell NB7102 Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery Pack and you have a powerful portable amp that you can take anywhere.

    • Just get the mini one

      • Yeah i like the mini as well, but if you want something louder with 40watts power, then this is the way to go to make it portable.

    • Any leads on where to get this battery? With an australian-spec power supply for charging? TIA

    • Username checks out. Guess you never DID learn to read or write so well… j/k ;)

  • Been cosidering this vs yamaha portable one, ended up bought this which is a good choice i think tho not quite portable as such, its quite heavy compared to yamaha. But this little one speaks really loud, can use it for gig in studio for sure. In my 2 bedroom apartment i only set the main volume to 15-20%

  • -1

If any of you as lucky as me when I ordered this last year, They delivered twice :P
    I kept both :P
But damn it this amp made me buy too many guitars

  • Highly recommend this amp ! I've got one and it has been awesome :)

  • awesome. I have a black one but always wanted the white. Now i have a black one for sale.

  • Fantastic amp for beginner and intermediate players.

I love it for home jam session, can select a tone and play a backing track. EG. search tone cloud for Nirvana Smells like teen spirit, then in the jam track section search for smells like teen spirit guitar backing track. SO MUCH FUN! I've got a great playlist going and now I'm a one man cover band, got me putting in heaps of hours playing.

  • But does this djent?

  • Not sure why this is marked as expired. I just bought a white one with the free case, free shipping and got the $30 off for signup.
I guess I haven't actually got the thing in my hands yet…

    • When i posted this, i only had the sparkgear20 code, which expired yesterday. It's still at $349, and it looks like the $30 signup code is still available. So, $319 is still on for anyone interested. Perhaps mods could update and un-expire the deal?

      • I just managed to un-expire it myself.

Just a heads-up, the transaction attracted a foreign fee via Westpact - even though I paid in AU$ through PayPal. It's apparently because the company's bank account is not Australian. Use foreign transaction fee free cards if possible.

  • Mine is still showing (Order Status Unfulfilled) anyone had shipping details yet?

    • Mine is still showing unfulfilled also. I bought before posting this

      • Thanks for the reply, it seem an odd way to word the purchase of a product. As long as it arrives ok we wont mind though. :)

  • received mine today (9/12)

    • that's great, received my tracking should arrive Tuesday 13th so all good.

  • Ordered mine on the 5th of December and haven't had any update about shipping or anything. Do they have a handling time written down anywhere?

  • Received mine today - but didn't come with the bag, even though I ordered it - has anyone else's come separately?

    • it will come separately.. and it took ages

      • Mine did eventually arrive - very poor communication from PositiveGrid on shipping, but the amp and the bag are great!

  • $299 with bag from Amazon AU.
