The 2.5kw is $599 and the good guys commercial for those with access. I got the regular good guys to price match commercial for me when showing them the price on commercial just so I could book an installer same time

    • How much did you pay for installation? And was it back to wall?

      • +1

It’s around $600 for back to back, I was gonna go for the 3.5 unit but honestly the room doesn’t need it so went the 2.5

        • That seems pretty cheap.

        • Was the installation arranged through Good Guys and do they collect the unit and install it in the house?

        • Hi, may i know who's the installer? You got em via goodguys? $600 seems pretty cheap. Thanks

          • @Bargain-er: Me3. I would like to know also. $600 including delivery & installation or installation only? Currently looking for an installer in South Australia if anyone could kindly recommend?
            Cheers,

    • Damn, how much is the 7.1kw? I got good guys to price beat Betta on the 7.1kw last week and they did it for $1250.
Wondering whats the best way to get access to TGG Commercial?
      Thx

      • $1168

        • wtfff lol cheers

      • $1168 so not too bad

        • +2

Yeah I just got access via making a super account with Rest wooo :)

          • @essent1al: Yea I saved $800 on my fridge the other day using the commercial price and getting regular good guys to price match

    • shop around find a comerical aircon supplier i got a panasonic 2.5 for 605 dollars

      • I think I would feel safer getting a Panasonic or Mitsubishi.

    • +1 Panasonic

    • Is this still $599 on TGG commercial? Would you be able to screenshot so I can price match regular TGG?

  • 2.5kw installation cost?

    • Someone else correct me if I’m wrong but installation cost is generally the same regardless of kw?

      • Sadly in my experience the price has gone up as kw does.

        • So many factors

          About 600 - 700 in Sydney

Cost about 100 - 200 more on double brick

          Double story easy 1-2k.

Depends on where you seat the outdoor unit to the indoor unit, extra gas might also be needed.

DM for a Sydney installer had 7 installed at my place old double brick story house.

Also remember to get a receipt people. Don't do the dodgy cash deals that tradies are very pushy for.

I had one fail at my first place 2015, air-con brand LG lucky i got a receipt because the tradie at the time was very pushy for a cash job. The unit had a PCB failure where the remote failed to sync receive into the indoor unit. Got it replaced under warranty. The technician that came out, told me the number of times he had to reject the job because the owner had no proof of licensed installation. Then the owner get slugged with a call out fee.

These sort of things (cooktops, oven, hotwater systems, aircons) don't cheap out on the installation.

Pretty bad energy ratings. I'd pay a bit more and get a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Much better rating and very reliable.

    • +1

The 2.5kw is 6.5* for cooling show me something that efficient in Mitsubishi and the price?

      • -2

When I looked at the description I saw 3.5 *. The MHI and LG have 6 and 6.5 ratings.

        • That’s for the heating as most are around this, checkout the cooling energy rating and compare to MHI (I currently have 2x MHI and in previous house we owned I installed Panasonics which were 5* for a 2.5 cooking) I grabbed one of these 2.5 for the media room based off my neighbour who does air conditioning

        • Are you just randomly googling for ratings?
Nothing comes close to the Hisense for cooling efficiency, its 8.5 * in Brisbane or 6.5 * elsewhere.

I've go the 2.5kw in my office and thinking about swapping out my Mitsubishis

          • -2

@Jessie Ryder: There are comparable ratings from other brands. For example this MHI model has 7* super rating for heating and cooling: SRK20ZSXA-W.

But I was commenting on something I saw as I was looking at some information for Hisense models. I think it related to a larger model so it was likely incorrectly pasted into the description of the 2.5kw model.

          • -1

@Jessie Ryder: Are these ratings independently sourced or those as quoted by the manufacturer?

Can anybody with access to a Choice Magazine membership tell us what their independent tests indicate?
            https://www.choice.com.au/home-and-living/cooling/air-condit…

            • -1

@scottishdave: The star rating are regulated and administered by the government, has been for over 30 years.

  • +1

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries or Mitsubishi Electric is a much better choice.
Both are Japanese brand and made in Thailand.
given the installation cost is probably equal or more than the air con itself, it's better to invest in something more reliable.

Just bought 3 MHI units from bunnings, price matched which saved 10%, and used gift card to saved another 10%. :)

    • +1

Why it has a 5 year warranty that's pretty good I think..

      • -1

MHI or ME is reliable to reach the 10 years mark without a single issue.

        • +1

I've also got a Kelvinator 2.5kw in the bedroom coming up 5 years with no issue as well that was a 4 star energy unit each to their own

        • +1

Warranty though is 5yr on parts and labour not 10. In saying that the labour part is valuable if needed

          • -1

@quikstix: warranty is important. real life experience is more important.
MHI/ME can handle 10 years well.
            There's the cost you saved.

            • +3

@TanedaR: Doesn't mean every MHI/ME is perfect and will last ten years just because you say it can. Warranty is 5 years like the rest of them can't see Hisense going bust in 5 years..

            • +1

@TanedaR: unfortunately just like every other brand they have issues too. My current 2 MHI units are ok, I mean would I buy them again maybe. My neighbour has had to replace both of his units just outside of their warranty (3months apart)

    • Do you mind sharing where did you access 10% off Bunning gift card ?

      • +1

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/716916
WW made a price error. It was supposed to be 10x points but they set their system as 10% off.
I bought 10x$500 of them as I knew I am moving into a new home and get a few air cons+ gardening tools.

    • Price matched to who?

  • Just got the 5kw Hisense installed paid $1017 for the unit from GG commerical nice and quiet and has pretty decent cooling/power use compared to the Mitsubishi units 4 stars vs 3.5 on the mitsi

    • how much for installation?

      • +1

        $750 for a two storey

        • interesting not bad

          • @michael9865: 3 out of 8 installers got back to me most are fully booked out to Xmas too !

  • I got Panasonic couple of weeks ago, and the wireless capability made my life so easy. You can turn it on/off before getting home by its app, or can register.it to alexa rooms. Then you can set schedule etc by saying it only.

  • 7.1 kw looks like great price.
We got quote of $3000 + gst to install 7k spilt air con. Is that normal?

    • They’re abouts, if you don’t have a circuit for it also. Most units are around $2k+

    • Get a few quotes and compare. Find out how much of the $3k is labour vs the unit itself.

  • I installed a Fujitsu 6/7.2kw split system recently.

Was told by an experienced installer to stick to Daikin, MHE/MHI or Fujitsu (confirmed by what I read online). I paid $1.6k for the unit so the price difference isn’t that much.

I’m all for purchasing competing brands but just thought I’d mention the price isn’t that different.
The Fujitsu also comes with some pretty cool features. No built in wifi but I bought a smart adapter for $100 from Fujitsu

    • +1

Want to share some of the cool features that are worthwhile?

        • Automatic turn heat turn on at 10C (hasn’t happened yet in Melbourne)
        • There’s a motion sensor. After 20 mins of use it will go into eco mode. When the sensor detects someone, it will go back to original settings. This one is pretty cool
        • Low noise mode for outdoor fan. Didn’t know this was a feature until buying. The external fan is right outside my bedroom window so this comes in handy for daytime naps
    • how much did you pay for installation?

      • $800 at the start of this year (Melbourne). Wasn’t a back to wall install. The outdoor unit is one level higher than the AC

        • Thanks

  • +1

anyone here who can advice whether to go for individual split or multi split for a single level - lounge and 4 bedrooms ?

    • +1

Interested too in any experiences regarding multi split.

    • +1

Not so much advice.. But I always go individual split as it offers redundancy. I've had outdoor units die from geckos (three times over two units) and it's taken a few weeks for repairer to come out / waiting on parts. If we didn't do individual splits we would have been very uncomfortable.

  • any evaporative deals?

  • +2

Got a 2.5kw smart rinnai a/c for $529 at RT Edwards yesterday.

Works great with google home. Can tell it to turn on at a certain time or for a duration.

    Alternatively set up scenes.

2 out of 3 Fujitsu's have died over the last 7 to 10 years. One literally blew up.

Honestly the 3rd one will probably die when I turn it on, as it's rarely used.

Now have 5 Rinnais. Oldest is 3 years and still going strong.

  • Must be because I'm not in Melbourne - although Geelong's not exactly rural - but have three quotes on a simple single-storey 2.5kW back to back and they're all $1300-1600 (not including cost of system).

  • Does anyone know which wifi module is in this? Only keen on getting something with Local control for HA.

https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/hisense_aehw4a1/ looks like it's limited to only one wifi module?
