I looked up avis direct and got same price as qantas for january on all vehicle categories ?
You'll pay through the nose for that extra point, better book directly and juggling between rental companies for the savings as it's a very expensive exercise right now (and you only get cheap MG junks for suv so don't upgrade for nothing)
Check for a corporate code with your employer, they must have been negotiated before recent inflation as it comes out a lot cheaper for me with my employer's code.
You forgot to mention they are charging around $150-$200 per day for car hire.
