7950X and 13900K at same price don't know what to get now.. :/

also, would strongly suggest not getting the KF model, the K model only should be conisdered, losing the iGPU for the shitty small saving for the KF difference is no way worth it.

    • There is at least $100 difference between K and KF models. Some people might find that a significant amount to stay stick to KF especially when it is not needed (having dedicated graphics card)

    • 13900KS for gaming
      7950X for productivity

AM5 will give you an upgrade path. 13900k will be EOL in 2023 when Meteor Lake launches on a new platform so no chance to upgrade to a new CPU in future without a new motherboard.

If you are willing to wait the Ryzen 7000 3D V-Cache CPUs will be announced at CES in January.

      • from this: https://www.pcgamer.com/next-gen-meteor-lake-cpus-and-intel-…

It's worth noting that Intel's 13th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs(opens in new tab) only landed in September, putting Meteor Lake on what seems like quite an accelerated schedule. However, it's also expected that Meteor Lake will limited to six Performance-cores(opens in new tab) where both Raptor Lake and its Alder Lake predecessor offered up to eight P-cores.

The upshot it that it seems unlikely that Meteor Lake will directly replace the entire Raptor Lake lineup up to and including the top Core i7 and Core i9 models. Instead, it looks more likely that Meteor Lake is a mobile-first design that could also see a limited launch on the desktop, replacing entry-level up to mid-range Raptor Lake CPU models.

        Yes, please.

        • Knowing what we know today about 5800X3D, what sort of traits are desirable for a AM5 motherboard today? Do you have a recommendation?

      • 13900k will easily last you till am6, this is a non issue unless you're the 1% who upgrades every gen.

        • If youre the sort of person buying a 13900k, its probably not going to be satisfactory at some point during AM5.

AM4 was launched Sept 2016, so its reasonable to assume it could last a similar amount of time.

I agree that there are still valid reasons to buy the 13900k and it will still be a top perfomer for a couple of years.

  • HODL for 13900KS
