  • The price of these 830 drives must have been reduced ( this is now the norm on static ice.. )

Yeah but most stores around the price don't have stock or don't offer pick up

This being like the 10th deal on 128GB SSDs in the last week for around $100, is there any reason they should be classed as a bargain anymore?

    • +7

Because ther are getting cheaper not expensive. And why people still post these Coke deals every week at 60c a can? Because somene may find it useful.

      • Well said one find it not useful many others might find it useful if they miss out the last deal.

    • i wish someone could post a deal for 256gb under $200 shipped. anyone?

try searching for the OCZ petrol 256GB, found it for $199 in QLD…

  • is this drive as good as M4? or sandisk?

    • its new tech, faster, more stable, will last longer, has less problems, its overall a much better drive in every way then the m4

    • Read the customer review here
      http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/cr/B005T3GPXY/ref=aw_d_crstars_e…

only 2 negative reviews out of 59

I think it's as good if not better than m4. Compared with sandisk samsung has much better reputation for reliability.

I personally don't really care much about the read write speed coz in real life you won't notice the difference. So I'll go with reliability over performance when buying ssd.

    128GB @ $120 = $0.94/GB
    256GB @ $270 - $1.05/GB

Larger drive is nearly 12% more expensive per GB. Obviously not unique to this deal, but I find this frustrating.

    • +2

Its fairly common. I think its because it actually gets faster or something as the memory size increases, forget exactly what it is but if I find the article i'll link it.

      • +4

        memory channels.

        • +2

Thats right! 8 Channel is currently the highest, and gives the best speeds and consistency on Sata 3/ USB 3 to my knowledge. I think the number of channels is directly proportional to the size (probably not by actual limitations, but by manufacturer choice, but obviously is lesser for cheaper models like OCZ octane [I think]).

        • +2

Yes, the configuration of the dies is directly proportional to the size. However, IIRC the speed within capacity classes is more a function of the controller used and the speed of the actual NAND itself. Hence, cheaper NAND = reduced performance in entry level drives of the same size at different price points.

FWIW, I've seen reviews of identical drives that performed very differently…when the casing was split the only difference was cheaper house brand NAND in one! ;)

Ah ok thanks guys. I love coming to this site and leaving just that little bit more intelligent :D

  • Do these come with a space thing so this drive can fit info a laptop nicely. Read they are thinner then normal

    • Your laptop has a special hard drive cage that you slide the SSD into and then use screws to hold in place. That cage is then put into the laptop. So that issue you're describing (SSD too small for laptop) isn't a problem.

Some laptops do not support 9mm drives, for example, Ultrabooks. You should check if your current hard drive is a 7mm or 9mm type.

      • My laptop is Asus Eee PC S101H so it's really a netbook.

        • Netbooks also use 2.5" drives. See this video.

        • Ok I've opened mine up and the current drive is wrapped in a rubber casing doesn't seem to come off too well

Will take it up and measure thickness soon

The current hard drive is not screwed in, it just there nice and snug

  • same price as this previous deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/74003
where is the fanfair the other one received? shouldn't you lot be having an orgy in the glee of this deal?
