[NSW] $60 Ticket for Carmen on Cockatoo Island by Opera Australia via Lasttix

380

$60 TICKET & FREE FERRY RIDE!

The ultimate femme fatale is back, in a brand new island performance in the middle of Sydney Harbour.
Carmen tosses her hair, stamps her feet and the whole world falls under her spell.

Revel in the irresistible Spanish tunes, sultry story and dark undercurrent of Carmen. You’ll hear the flirty Habanera and famous Toreador song amid a spectacle that features fire-twirling, car crashes and fireworks.

Your night begins with a ferry ride across the glittering water to the world-heritage listed sanctuary of Cockatoo Island. Step off the boat and you’re surrounded by layers of history. Once a meeting place for the Eora Nation, the site is now dotted with the industrial relics of a century of ship-building and architectural marvels dating back to Sydney’s convict past.

    Saw this in San Diego

i saw this closer to home in Miranda

    • +4

      Where in the world?

      • +1

        San Diego, California.

        • +3

He meant Carmen. Carmen is actually rarely in San Diego

Also worth noting there are $45 Rush tickets available day of performance via the TodayTix app (https://www.todaytix.com/)

Being able to select your seat and including the return ferry ($20 value) I consider this a better deal but the rush tickets may also be available on other dates.

  • Anyone know anything about Carmen? I've only heard the opera song thing? Is it like a family friendly sort of event or is it fairly "sultry" as the ad puts it.

Is it like a family friendly sort of event or is it fairly "sultry"

Based on the thumbnail, I'm guessing it's soft pr0n.

Maybe if you just got off the Mayflower …

    • +3

The entire thing is in French, so YMMV.

"Sung in French with English subtitles"

      • bonjour

      • +2

        Actually, website says:

        Language

Sung in French with English surtitles

        /s

        • +2

The translations run above the stage, rather than below. Otherwise the audience wouldn’t be able to see them.

          Hence “surtitles”

    • +3

Mostly family, but some sexual references. Visually, some mild lingerie style gear.

Will finish around 10:30 p.m., then with travel home of probably at least an hour, makes a long day for younger ones if that's what you're thinking i.e. not ideal for children.

    • Opera 99% of the time (unless for kids) is extremely boring to them.

oooohhoohohoho thanks for sharing op! grabbing two thanks

  • I can't figure out what this is

Is it music? Or is it a show/play/movie?

The show is by opera Australia. But it says the show will have subtitles.

I'm so confused. Seems like this may be a good date night idea as we're not far from Cockatoo island but still have no idea what it is

    • It's opera. There are subtitles (actually surtitles) because opera is sung in Italian

      • +4

Italian Opera is sung in Italian, this is French Opera, sung in French (Le subtitles), and is a story & show produced by Opera Australia . Went to Carmen by Opera Australia a few years ago with my 10yo daughter. A fantastic night. Ticket price at $60 a bargain…

        French.

Last time I saw this, instead of the usual stage direction 'guys carry around the Toreador as if he were on a horse'…they had a horse.

Then at the end the horse took a bow.

        Good times.
