    was it ever below 1k?

    • +1

Don't believe so, it was about 10 bucks cheaper during black friday sales which I believe is the cheapest it has been so far

    • +37

I got two from harvey norman launch week for 810.75 each by signing a contract and instantly cancelling then paid $150 to upgrade first one to 256 and used the $150 harvey norman voucher to upgrade second one and was left over with a $150 harvery norman voucher.

but it was all paid with coles mastercards so you minus 7.8% the phone was less then $750.

      • +31

        You are the real ozb

      • I got mine for $594? HN gave me the 256GB by mistake too.

        $828 - 10% in Coles MasterCards (I had Flybuys bonus points) - $150 GC

        • +5

256gb by mistake is a good bonus.

      • +1

what about now? what ways are there to get it cheaper like this?

        • I think it was just good timing with Optus.

Actually the plan was good value too.

      • +3

        I am not worthy.

      • Yeah did the same but bought a case and charger with some of the $150 HN gift card, sold the phone unopened with case and charger for $250 profit and kept the rest of the gift card which was all up $300 in profit.

Yeah no pixel 7 but my old phone is more than adequate find x2 pro plus have a spare backup and the pixel 7 pro was not worth it over having some cash in hand.

      • So you buy the phones at HN on a plan or is this some sort of no pay HN contract?

Then you cancelled the plan and requested for an upgraded config?

        Sorry I'm a little confused.

        • Not sure if that plan is still around but we are talking about this post

          • @denserham: I just read it but I wonder if the comments about personal information leaking were real? I've never tried Optus yet.

    • +1

It was when you signed up for the plan at Harvey Norman and only paid $888 as an exit fee on the same day

Google au current price outright delivered is $999. So, yes.

      https://store.google.com/au/config/pixel_7?hl=en-GB&selectio…

      • +4

        That's not the Pro

  • +13

When you have on ozbargain long enough to do this:
I got the 256 gbs from google for 1449 au$
I will claim back 144.9 au$ gst when leaving to Europe first week of January.
I got 300 au$ google store credit, I will but the buds pro and sell them on marketplace for 240 au$
I also price matches jb-hifi and they refunded me 262 au$
    In total, that's 1449-144.9-240-262= 802.1 au$ for a p7p 256 gbs :)

    • +1

almost half price, that's next level bargaining

    • I did the exact same thing without the GST refund, you forgot the 10% store credit for being a google one subscribe though

      • I have a low tier google one subscription. I should probably upgrade it…

    • -6

I will claim back 144.9 au$ gst when leaving to Europe first week of January.

And pay it back because you have to declare it on the way back. Because you know its the right thing to do so that they don't hopefully tighten the trs system futher as a result of people doing the dodgey.

Or you could conveniently leave it out your arrival paasenger card. And pretend it never happened till one gets caught ofcourse.

      • +1

I have recently relocated to Spain, I am not going on a trip to Europe, I live there, hence, I ain't doing anything dodgy.

        • Fair enough. Just had a few people here claiming trs then conveniently forgetting to declare the items on their return.

As i said i hate Gerry Harvey as much as the next guy but please obey trs rules people.

      • +1

Since you're a smart ass, let me quote the ATO:

"If you are aged 18 years or over, you can bring up to AUD900 worth of general goods into Australia duty free."

The value of the phone that will be second hand on return is less than those $900. Feel free to read the rules in full.

        • Ok. But you know there have been people who bought items and claimed trs and brought back said item that exceed this limit. Things like jewelry e.g. earings, wedding and engagement rings.

Then conveniently forget to declare said items in their arrival card. This isn't about being a smart arse. This about making people aware.

          Straight out of abf website.

Declare any goods you bring back to Australia, for which a TRS claim was made by you or another person when the goods left Australia.

On returning to Australia, you must declare the goods at Question 3 on your Incoming Passenger Card (IPC)

Penalties may apply if you fail to declare these items
If you bring goods back into Australia for which a GST refund via the TRS has been claimed, the goods must be declared, and if the value of those goods (combined with any other overseas/duty free purchases) exceeds the passenger concession allowance, any applicable GST and/or duty may need to be paid unless another concession (example, all personal clothing – except furs) is available.

    • +1

I just bought an iPhone 13 Pro, and off to Bali next week.
Can I claim the GST back at the TRS being an Aus citizen or do I need to use my foreign passports?

      • +5

You can claim trs with aus passport or foreign passport.

The condition is you don't bring the item back in the country or if you do. You are liable to pay gst back.

        • +2

          Theoretically

          • +1

@Skyactiv: And the arrival card declaration of any purchases where one claimed gst back is a mere suggestion. Not a legal document with no legal ramifications if filled in incorrectly.

That border force show has been lying to me all along. I knew it.

        • +2

Duty free concessions A$900 each adult, and you can pool between family members.

          • @gotcha: And when you bring the item back into the country. You are declaring it in your arrival card. Right?

    • How do you get a refund from JB-HiFi if you bought the phone from Google?

      • +2

They pricematched jb. So google refunded the price difference.

    • what about now? what ways are there to get it cheaper like this?

    • so you got your phone from Google, then how do you get refund from JB HIFI?

    • -1

This is against the law and is tax theft. Its not an added bargain.
If you claim GST refund then it must not be brought back into Australia.

      • Apparrently it is till they get fined by border force. But hey people still risking it because they think they wont get caught. All about risk vs reward to this people.

        • Never tried the risk. How much fine for a 1k phone?

          • @tedzozb: No fine, since you can get $900 worth of goods into the country tax free

      • +1

You are allowed $900 per person and can pool with a family ($900 each adult, and $450 per child) so as long as you are not trying to claim a ridiculous amount, it is completely legal and will be totally fine. The item also is valued at less when returning as well. I have done it multiple times and declared it on return and never paid a cent.

        • and declared it on return

          The all important part.

For the record i have claimed trs on items well above the quota but i had no intention of bringing the items back into the country though so thats fine.

Its those people that will claim well past their quota and bringing said item back into the country. There are people that do this. It's part of the reason border security tv show is still going.

    • I also price matches jb-hifi and they refunded me 262 au$

Could you please explain it a bit more? JB price matched the 256G Pixel? But doesn't JB sell it at the same price?

  • +5

Well this reply is on a P7 Pro. My first take - prior to the December update - was 'oh this no better than the P6 Pro'.

However the niggles we knew about the P6P, including dodgy network connection, poor fingerprint sensor, and some macro camera quirks - they're all resolved.

Oh and the almost miraculous low light performance on 5x zoom.

    $1,049 now that's a bargain.

    • -3

After 6 months users may find new issues which need to be resolved. Just like marriage, the newly weds always have rose-coloured dreams but end up arguing and fighting.

  • +2

Eager for them to stop curved displays one day

    • +14

Tbh im getting sick of it on my s22 ultra. Its just annoying. We get it you can curve the screen. Thats cute. Now give me a flat display.

      • Yep. I ditched Samsung note series the second they made then curved.

It's annoying, I want a great, flat, only

        • +1

Yeah this curved display shenanigans need to stop.

          • -1

@xoom: It's been holding me back from the "premium" phones for years.

Apple have been smart enough to never do it.

I don't want a Pixel 7 regular, the camera is dinky. I want the worksburger.

            • +2

              @hamwhisperer: The S22 and S22+ are options

              • -1

@Techie4066: I don't really wanna go back to Samsung, those prices are insane.

                • +2

@hamwhisperer: It was $588 through HN

                  • -1

@Techie4066: I also kinda hate Samsung. I was there for many years and they abandoned me.

They used to have IR Ports and all. Now the top model is curved only.

We'll see, it's not urgent. Wish my Huawei had a better camera, I'd be happy then

                    • @hamwhisperer: Understood. I'm quite new to Samsung (first one was S20 FE). Didn't dv you. I was the same and loved Pixels but got over that quickly with Google constantly dropping the ball on quality.

      • -1

It's you again, Xoom. I have a feeling you're just posting out of boredom. There's no way you're actually using an S22 Ultra and complaining. It's simply the best phone money can buy, unless you're hell bent on Apple products.

        • +1

Using and posting on my s22 ultra. Yes.

Just because its the best don't make it perfect.

Did i forget to mention they got rid of features like the heaphone jack, microsd card and ir blaster. Useful features to me.

So having an s22 ultra means im no longer entitled to complain? Seriously?

          • @xoom: 😂 why complain? That's what Samsung customer service is for. I've been using an iPhone and a Note simultaneously for more than a decade, usually skipping a generation in both product lines, and in most cases I go for my Note, if the activity can be done on either of the two. The only improvement desired was battery life, and the only annoyance ever was Bixby.

            • +1

@mrau: This isnt an apple vs android debate. As for apple. Thats a whole set of annoyances altogether.

Just saying sure the s22 ultra is one of the if not the best. That don't make it perfect.

Customer service is for getting broken things fixed. Missing features one would like back on a mobile phone is not for customer service to deal with.

As for bixby. That skidmark of a feature is no longer an annoying thing on the s22 fortunately.

    • +2

Bought P2XL, P5, P6P. Sole reason I didn't get P7P is the curved screen. Sick of using it.

      • +1

        :(

3 years ago I used to whinge about this and no one would agree with me.

Now I'm seeing a lot of anti curved sentiment on the web in general, fingers crossed it stops

    • I went the 7 rather than pro for this reason after hearing people banging on about how much better flat screens are. However, I used someone's pro the other day and gotta say, swiping in from the side to go back is so much nicer on smooth glass than it is scraping across the little piece of metal on my flat 7. I'd rather the curve for this reason alone.

      • Totally correct. The screen isn't curved, it's just there edges of the screen, and it makes for an excellent feel. I've been using Notes from Note 1, and to me, when they introduced the curve, it was an improvement. Phone quality always top. Thank you Samsung.

        • The screen is absoloutely curved. The non pro isn't curved, iPhones aren't curved.

    $749 for pixel 7

  • -2

Even cheaper on the Telstra Plus store if you have points

  • +1

    Here’s an example
As a rough guide, a 128GB phone or tablet on average can store approximately:

    900 photos
1 hour of Ultra HD video
    1,000 songs
    100 apps and games
    20 movies

Damn, Telstra really pushing you into those higher storage devices. Assuming you take all your photos in raw? And all of your songs are Lossless?

    • Most of my stuff is on google drive

  • This pricing is for if you sign up for telstra plan if i'm correct?

  • For those who care, I tried to price match this instore to use gift cards at jb and they wouldnt do it. Have to wait for boxing day sales…

  • -1

I was told by telstra this is locked and need to pay 80 to unlock it. I thought carriers didn't lock phones any more, was the sales person lying to me or is it really locked?

    • +2

      Not locked

  • +2

Price matched with jbhifi yesterday. Currently using the new pro 7.

    • Think you got lucky with this. During BF sales, they were declining price match as you need to be a Telstra member

  • +1

I was able to price match at JB HiFi Marsden Park without any issues. All they asked is if I have a Telstra account, but no need to provide any proof. I bought 7 pro 256GB for 1199$.

  • Is it dual sim?

    • -1

      Yes

      • +2

Pretty sure just single physical sim + eSim.

  • +4

    I got mine for $477.

Paid google $1300 and got $130 google store credit for google one account, plus $300 google credit for promo, then price matched against HN so $263 refund, then $130 Gst refund via TRS = $477.

Then used the google store credit to buy case, charger and a pixel watch, then price matched each of those and also claimed GST on pre-price matched total.

    Its all about stacking :)

    • +4

It sounds a bit Dodgy! Bob :)

    • +3

You paid $1 too much, the RRP was $1299

      • Ahh, quite right. It was $1299. And the price match from HN was only $262 refund and the store credit and GST refund were $129.90 each if you really want to be pedantic about it.

    • They didn't teach maths at your school?

      • They did indeed, I just used round numbers to make it easier for you to follow.

  • Anyway to get this phone to run cloned messenger/social media apps without hiccups?

    Eg WhatsApp.. Line etc

Tried those app store ones and I don't feel comfortable using them … Why pixel not allowing clone apps

  • Can someone confirm if this phone is network locked?

    • +2

      No, it isn't.

  • -2

I'm thinking to buy an iphone 14;Pro instead for one main reason. I expect an iphone to be less likely to break if dropped. Or at least according to what I read.

    • +2

Going by the iphones i seen people have in my morning commute. Broken screens galore.

Not saying its more likely to break. Probably more to do with its butter fingers owner than anything.

    • +3

I heard the old Nokia phones are even less likely to break than iPhone 14 pros. Best holding out for a deal on one of those.

  • +1

Do I need Telstra plan to buy this?

    • Fairly sure yeah - wasn't able to buy myself from Telstra without one. Doesn't even work with a $2 SIM :(

    • There is option to buy outright, if you click Next, then it asks to log in with Telstra ID account (No need to have current plan)

  • I can't get JB to price match this for the life of me. I have a working Telstra account but not an active Telstra customer.

    • Why not buy outright from Telstra in that case?

      • +1

Wanted to use gift cards and trade in existing phone via square trade up.

Ended up phoning around and someone did eventually price match.
