Looks interesting. The monthly fee sounds like a money grab though.

monthly fee not including cost of telco sim service, so add that on top

    • Ah, I was looking for the catch.
I like the idea in theory, but I think I would need wi-fi and a kid-friendly social app (such as Messenger Kids) so the kids can call their friends without burning through mobile data.
A watch is preferable to a cheap phone which they can lose or be separated from (in their bag for example) and which is much more open-ended in terms of who they can contact and the multitude of distracting apps and games they can install.
Alas, they had to ruin it with a service subscription.

Quoted 40-hour battery life in STANDBY doesn't seem practically enough either. That's less than the small Samsung watches.

    • There's also the Moochies which goes on sale for for $99 (currently that price at Kmart) which I don't believe has a subscription fee as such but I think you're locked in to using their affiliated SIM, so not sure which works out better in the long run.

"We are able to offer our Moochies watch at low prices because we receive telecom revenue from the sim plans you sign up to. Because of this, you are unable to change the Sim Card built into the Moochies watch."

      • It'll be fine as long as it's tied to ColesMobile ;)

  • Do secondary colleges allow those watches in schools.

    • No.

      • Source?

        • You will need to look up the state rules and possibly even the school rules as they vary from state to state. The wording "mobile phone" and "mobile device" might be something to look out for. I'm sure at the end of the day teachers will be the ones to say yes or no. The aim of most policies is to remove distraction and screen time, so this maybe suitable as socials aren't accessible.

Another thing to keep in mind is many teachers won't know the difference between this and a smart watch with social media access. If you do end up buying one and are going to use the GPS feature to track your child, please let your kids know.

  • What's with the monthly app fee? Please don't buy this. Plenty around $20-$50 kids 4G smartwatch on AliExpress.

  • I don't understand why the company put this fantastic product in the retail market. They should give school 50% off as fundraising item and 10% rebate to school every month. I bet schools would reinforce every student to get one!

  • Bought two of these a few years ago and in addition to the app subscription, they’re dreadfully slow. Also small screen meant my kids were messaging me using a Nokia-like keyboard (eg Press 1 three times for C). They’re sitting in a cupboard somewhere now.

Also my primary school didn’t allow them anyway - even tho all functionality except for emergency calling to me was disabled during school hours.

Only positive is you do get pretty good parental control and geofencing options.

  • If you get jumpy sim you get monthly spacewalk subscription waived.Or you can get amaysim $99 yearly 60gb plan which if you add $5.99 spacewalk subscription comes out to about $14 a month which is peanuts
