As cool and colourful as these look they only really work well with a handful of games in regards to its controller/button layout

    • Great for smash, what else do you use it for?

      • +1

You can use it for Super Mario Sunshine as well as in the original config.

But the controller can be used for other games too.

I find some of the sonic games better with the Gamecube controller as you only need a few buttons and the bigger buttons easier to mash.

          gamecube controller > all

        • You do know this isn’t a real GameCube controller right? So it won’t have analog triggers.

  • +1

Thanks OP - Just bought one!!

is the game pad better than this wheel? https://www.amazon.com.au/Nintendo-2511166-Switch-Wheel-Acce…

Or would the wheel be better? The kiddo wants to play with his friends and asked about the wheel.

    • +8

      They serve a different purpose.

      Apple and Oranges mate

      • +1

Apples and Oranges serve the same purpose though, sustenance.

        • I use apples for archery practice.

    • +1

The wheel is just an adapter to a single joycon to make it more ergonomic to play MK8 with just one joycon, if you like using motion controls too. For the rest of us who like using buttons to steer, the wheel is not particularly useful. No joycon is included.

The linked controller is actually a controller in its own right, and styled after the gamecube controller for extra nostalgia points. The layout is not very good for some games, but is good for fighter games like SSBU.

      • I ended up buying both… :D

    • +2

That wheel is not a controller. You need to attach the actual Joy-Cons to it.

  • great deal, ordered one. thanks OP!

  • Oh wow, gorgeous! We use the wireless gamecube switch controllers… so good!

  • Wow love it

    Nice CW but wired dang

  • work for PC?

I've got a green luigi version. Great controller if you like Dolphins.

Or you could get the Link one for $230!

Thanks OP. I have the Mario one already but have wanted a spare…surprisingly high quality.

  • Doesn't work on my PDP-11 or my PDP-8. Was wanting to play Space War. Very disappointed.

  • Awesome! Great layout and perfect for my yoshi main partner. Extra Xmas present!

  • Great, thanks. Zelda one seems to be all gone.

    • Updated description thanks.

Surprised that this layout is still being used - it came out over 20 years ago. That’s like still being able to buy a NES controller to use on Wii!

    • +9

You can buy a NES controller to use on the Switch

  • Thanks OP ordered!

  • +1

    Is this that Fisher-Price toy?

  • My kids use these for most games, as don't need to charge. The controllers feel like pretty good quality to me.

  • does anyone know how do you connect this wired controller to the switch without having to be docked?

    • +3

An adapter that has a USB-C plug and USB-A socket.

You'll need to find a way to prop the console up, as the USB-C port is on the bottom.

      • thanks for the tip

  • +1

    Wish they were wavebirds

  • Zelda oos

I have one of these, never got used to the strange shape of the controller so it just sits there acquiring dust.

  • Haha I love the Gamecube style controller, great console, fun times.

I'm tempted to buy one of these controllers for the unique design and for a little bit of nostalgia
Curious to know if it would work on PC with a Gamecube emulator like Dolphin, I assume it does as it's a USB interface, can anyone confirm?

  • +1

This is a great price, and a good controller, but if planning to use it for GameCube emulation note that it only has digital triggers (not analog like the original). You will want analog for games like Mario Sunshine

  • Anyone received their controller yet? Mine shows as a used item, it's been open.

    • Mine arrived on friday, all looks brand new in packaging. What was indicator it was used?

  • +1

Yoshi back in stock, although 31 cents higher @ $21.78
