I know right! So are Ferraris. They should cost as much as my Barina.

  • So what's the go with mechanical keyboards?

    • +2

Basically… they sound cooler than normal keyboards :P

    • I have a Razer Lycosa, and while I like the tactile feel of my current keyboard, the BlackWidow blows it away in terms of key "crispness" and responsiveness.
It actually feels like a keyboard should and less like pushing your fingers into sponges — which is what many cheap Logitech keyboards feel like.

The problem though is the noise. The clicking will drive most people nuts, but I find clickyness somewhat satisfying to hear :)

Most people buy cherry blues just to type at 90db :)

  • I'm using the BlackWidow Ultimate (backlit version) to type this and can vouch for it's awesomeness. It's my first mechanical keyboard and it's so much nicer to type with than my old rubber-dome Logitech.

    • For someone who used the original model-M back in the '80s, used a mechanic keyboard for the better part of last decode and is currently using a cheap $10 keyboard, I beg to differ…

    • Why, thanks for your contribution.

Have you actually USED a mech keyboard before?

    • Negging you due to post/vote being entirely based around idiocy and lack of knowledge.

What science WON'T tell you is how a mechanical keyboard feels different to a rubber dome keyboard. What science (aka. empirical research) WILL tell you, is that there is a significant number of people who prefer the feel of a mechanical keyboard.

      • Agreed. If you can tell the difference between the two keyboards, then people will always prefer one over the other. In which case good science will indeed tell you that there's a difference.

    • BesidesI believe there is some days around to support the theory that out can help RSI (if touch typing without bottoming out - which you need a mech kb for).

  • How is it as a normal keyboard for work / programming / system administration?

I used to have a Unicomp mechanical keyboard with full travel and has very nice tactic feedback (although the sound of heavy coding session can drive colleagues crazy). That died last year and am looking for replacements…

  • And the ultimate version is only $30 more, so I'm guessing that means ~$110 delivered? Pretty nice given the best local price I can see on staticice is $139 without delivery.

Do not buy this keyboard. I have 2 broken already, they exchanged first one for me, now the second one broke and it expired warranty period.

  • I have the ultimate, its awesome. I upgraded from the G15 last year and I love this keyboard. I bought it overseas though and it cost me $110. I have noticed some of the keys starting to flicker with the backlit function, other than that it has been fine.

Nothing but jerk offs reading the marketing off the box thinking a keyboard is better because it is mechanical is better….. Keyboards haven't evolved as a type of pc input, yet i always hear the same stories mentioning buzz and hype words like
    Tactile
    Actuation
    Feel
And yes i have used a mechanical keyboard and sorry i dont waste my money on gimmicks

  • Is saving $20 a really good deal (ARC = $100 & MSY = 103)? If this thing breaks you aren't covered by warranty. Doesn't seem worth it.

  • I've got the ultimate version of this and I love it! This version is missing the backlighting and I think the usb port on the side but the typing experience is still the same. Made a huge difference to me in both typing speed and gaming when I made the switch to this keyboard. Had for about 1 year with no problems

    I am in Sydney.

    • All this talk and nobody even decided to try buying it :O
