$1.5k for a phone easily comparable with some that are 1/3 of that price. Insane. Can't wait to see the heated arguments in response.

    • +7

Not a heated response (at least by my standards), but I'm keen to hear about some of the other options you're talking about. I'm in the market for a new phone

      • For what it's worth, I've been wanting to replace my iPhone X for a while now, hoping a deal will pop up here. I simultaneously use iOS and Android devices for a lot longer than a decade, with one of my Android devices always being one of the Galaxy Notes.

Back to your question - devices that can be had in the ~$500 range (new), that have attracted my attention are: Pixel 6a, Galaxy A53, and the "old" Galaxy Note 10+ 5G.

I haven't used any of the major Chinese brands, Xiaomi and Huawei being the leaders, so can't comment on those. As a side show, Flip3 seems really interesting as a second device to me, at half price it's been offered at recently.

The post is a 512gb model, on the Note you mentioned has a 512gb model (I don't believe the other two go above 128gb).

Where can you get a new note 10+ 512gb ? Let alone for 1/3 or even 1/2 the price?

          • -1

@M00Cow: You can buy a new Note 10+ 5G on eBay still. I'm not too concerned with storage, backup takes care of that. My iPhone X is just 64GB. My Note is, indeed, 512GB, but never gets anywhere near to being used.

Coz you're just after attention for bot-type behaviour.

You'll have to lend me your DeLorean.
Before the Newton, let alone the iPod or iPhone was even a twinkle in Steve's eye.

    • How do the phones "easily comparable with some that are 1/3 of that price" compare in regards of running ios apps and iMessages? Can't wait to see what you got for me.

Might not be a thing for you, might be a must for someone.

      • -4

Why do you think iOS is so special that Android can't compare? Is it because it's in minority globally?

        https://gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share/mobile/worldwide

iMessage is the most problematic service Apple offers, as it doesn't offer the same experience for all mobile users. Most popular messaging apps do, and they work equally for iOS and Android.

Let me know how you feel about your iPhone when you carry two phones in your pocket for a decade, one Android, one iOS. I know my hand goes for the Galaxy Note, rather than iPhone X for anything but phone calls that I make or receive in the number attached to it.

        • The same argument could also be said again after you buy ur 1/3 price android to another phone in the market.

Messaging apps and phone calls aren't really a demanding technology.

If you judge a phone's price by its ability to send messages, why are you considering swapping phones?

          • @FIVEDOLLAR: Swapping phones? I didn't argue messaging apps, just responded to the post that asked me about it. What's your actual point? What exactly do you think you can do on an iPhone 13 that can't be done on a Galaxy A53, for instance? The big qualifier had to be one's own use of the technology, and I don't use my mobile phones for gaming, but I do use them for pretty much everything else. The Note is way better than an iPhone for business use, for instance.

@mrau: My job is not to convince you why you should buy an Iphone and I never said anything about why Iphones are better.

You've complained about the price and said you were going to replace your iPhone X with another phone at a fraction of the price.

I'm curious to know what is this killer feature that buying a new phone is able to do that both your android and iphone can't already do for you?

              • -1

@FIVEDOLLAR: Your job? Why are you imagining questions for me? I've written already that I use an iPhone and an Android phone simultaneosly for more than a decade. I usually replace them when the battery doesn't last as long as I need it, or a new phone makes sense as good value, or is in other ways a compelling upgrade. I replace an iPhone with an iPhone, Android with an Android.

                Cheers
