Good monitor though. Reviews are solid.

To be fair though, its controlled by connecting a micro usb cable. Perfect for both parties I'd say, just never plug in the cable and you're good to go.

  • This or wait for a sale on the dell s2721dgf / LG 27gn850b/880b? (For work and light gaming)

Imho i'd simply go on the specs. If either monitor offer what you want, get that monitor. If they both have the same specs, why wait?? Get it now, use it now, enjoy playing. I've waited on 'specials' before and they never meet my expectation of what a 'special' is.
These days, specials are every weekend. Mothers day, fathers day, valentines day, eofy, xmas, boxing day, new years, winter/summer, sporting event (get this massive tv to watch the game blah blah), aussie day, wtf deals (wed, thurs, fri), list can go on for the reason of a special. Worst one is black friday…. that used to only go for the weekend (bl fri- cyber mon). Recent years BF have been absolute CRAP deals and they go for 3weeks now with very limited deals/savings.
That's why i say "if it's saving you money and the specs are the same, buy now"
Sorry for the long post lol

      • Now there are 'pre boxing day sales' as well as boxing day sales. I just don't get it

Unfortunately spec sheets don't tell the whole story, which is why in depth reviews like those from HUB or Rtings are essential

        • This is true! If your fav reviewer hasn't got the latest or not the particular model you're after, someone out there will have it. I reckon all specs should be listed with nothing hidden. Brands that deceive don't get my money lol

Any idea if you can turn off the RGB lights? They would make this unusable in the dark. The manual mentions something about being able to turn off a power indicator but it's not clear what that means.

edit: Good news, it seems that has to be plugged in separately https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FutECur9maU&t=6m08s

This review claims it's quite smeary though with a slow response time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXKOZnp2BII

Positive reviews from Tom's Hardware and Gear Seekers with benchmark testing.

      • Yeah I ended up getting it, overall it sounds very positive. Will see if this one thing is an issue, which I guess isn't too unexpected for such a good price.

Same ended up picking up 2 of them. Been waiting for a 27" IPS 2K 165hz 1ms spec'd monitor. Missed out on the NZXT ones a couple of months ago but am happy with this.

          • @Notori0us: I got it and am pretty happy with it. There is a noticeable grey gradient coming from the right side of the screen about 3cm in and I'm not sure what's up with that, might just need to play with the settings or let it warm up more.

@CodeExplode: Just set both of mine up mate, very happy so far. No grey gradients on either. Have only adjusted resolution to 1440p and increased to 165hz (DP only) in windows - all hardware settings on default. Try different cables (I like how they supplied 1 of everything for us). Hopefully not a faulty monitor.

Edit: Adjusted hardware settings - recommend "Overdrive: Off" and "Adaptive-Sync: On".

              • @Notori0us: How are you finding the stand? I'm hesitating getting this monitor because the stand looks like it sticks out too much

                • @Krispyy: I've attached them to monitor stands/mounts so am not using the default stands. I've taken one out and measured it, it is 27cm width (from your seated position to the back of the desk) x 29cm long (across the desk side to side). It does seem bulkier than some other stands (e.g. I have the Philips 275M8 due it needing to support the height adjustable pole which allows you to move the monitor up and down.

Are you worried you might not be able to sit the stand back far enough on your desk because of the size of the base?

                  • @Notori0us: I've got a short desk, so I'm worried it'll look awkward with the rest of my set up. I really like the RGB feature and would like to utilise the stand vs mounting it. Trying to decide if getting this monitor for the RGB stand is worth it vs getting a cheaper monitor and mounting it

Tom's Hardware's monitor reviews are pretty pointless. Every single monitor they review somehow has a "7ms" response time

Not great. Wouldn't pay $399 for this. Full review here for those interested: https://tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/cooler-master-gm27-fqs-argb

    • Full review actually had good results, thanks for this!
