15% cashback is safe, 25% is when they're about to be placed in voluntary administration.

    • +5

uber & uber eats will never go into voluntary admin. they own a monopoly now.

back before uber entered the market. it used to be eatnow, menulog and deliveroo.. now only menulog left.

      • +5

There is also doordash and hungrypanda

        • +1

I've also seen lots of Fantuan delivery riders around. They've taken over Deliveroo's teal colour.

The food delivery market is definitely not a monopoly.

        • +4

The selection of doordash is way less than Uber Eats (at least in my area / metro VIC)

Hungry panda (combined with Easi) are more towards asian cuisines and I don't really like the way where they will refund as credit if the order is being cancelled, even I paid via credit card

For the orders I have done via Uber eats, 9/10 delivered on time and have no issues with the food

          • @littlesoldier: Typical Asians

Once they have your money, good luck getting it back. I recently spent months across Asia and it was the same story time and time again

      • There was also Foodora back in 2015-2016

        • And Delivery Hero back in 2015-2018

      • +1

uber & uber eats will never go into voluntary admin. they own a monopoly now.

Same thing was said about enron

    • They also just gave 1 year Uber one free through cba and Mastercard

      • can you provide the link? i think i missed the deal. i am on CBA and mastercard.

  • can these be used for Uber Carshare if anyone knows?

    • +2

      They can't

  • +5

I hate how bad the process is for buying gift cards through cashrewards. Can only do one per transaction and each transaction sends you 3 seperate emails. They should at least have the same discount on the $100 so you can reduce the amount of emails/transactions.

    • -1

i have a 2nd email address that i use for online shopping so the junk doesn't clog up my normal email

    • Agreed. And the card process is a pain in the butt.

I've basically stopped using CR because of this. I had thousands back with CR and barely anything with SB and now SB is ahead

  • +4

Hold off for the 20% from that gift card site imo

    • When does the 20% happen?

      • A couple times within the last 6 months already so I imagine some time sooner or later

  • Hmm… to pull the trigger now and purchase these at 15% or wait for 20%. Need the gift cards before jan 2.

    • +4

If everyone can band together and HOLD THE LINE,
then we can negotiate our discount percentage…

is this the start of OzB Union movement? haha

    • +1

If you need them that quickly then pull the trigger IMO

anyone else not in urgent need may be worth holding off

first… 6 months uber one free… now uber gift cards going on sale for larger than normal discounts. sounds familiar…

    • +2

It would be silly to compare Uber to Deliveroo. Surely everyone knows what Uber has that Deliveroo never had? A monopoly built up by years of their ridesharing service.

      • Okay, maybe. But… two questions.
        1. Is the parent for Uber Eats and Uber vehicle service the same?
        2. If Uber chose to exit food delivery, does not mean Uber rideshare stops.

        • +1
          1. Yes
          2. Correct

This is a deal on both Uber and Uber Eats. I can't see Uber (as a whole) shitting itself like Deliveroo. Comparing apples to oranges.

        • I'm looking at it through investment goggles. Uber is a massive loss making company who has struggled to find the road to profits in a low interest rate environment. As a company, you either reach profitability or something has to give

          • +1

@freestyle18: Yes and no. Uber has a long-term vision though. When self-driving vehicles take off Uber is in the drivers seat, literally. So long as investors are willing to wait till then… maybe another decade, then Uber will be fine.

    • +1

Larger than normal? was 20% off without waiting for cashback only 3 months ago

      • +1

AFAIK, uber used to offer small GC deals. 10% would be awesome. Even looking back at 2021, those deals were scarce. beginning of 2022, we're seeing 10% regularly, now we've seen 15% a bunch in the last 6 months, that giftcard website offering 20% at least twice in 2022. I'm just pointing out the pattern. You may deduct what you may…

        • +2

Bigger discounts since they've upped prices on Uber (even with 10% Uberpass its cheaper to take a Didi) and added the service fees to every transaction in Ubereats, makes sense to me that they can offer more discounts on gift cards after that imo

        • Interest rates going up, investors no longer handing out free cash

  • Yeah, cause the last set of cheap food delivery service cards worked out well.

  • +1

inb4 cool story bro, but I'm done with Uber and Uber Eats. The last bunch of Uber Eats orders we have made have had issues (missing items, milk with 1 day before expiry etc) and Uber Eats now just defaults to "you aren't eligible for a refund sorry" whenever I ask them for help. Uber also has shit like drivers constantly cancelling whenever I use it to get home, and they have just DOUBLED the price of trips home from the Brisbane airport.

Time to go back to taxis and use Doordash I guess (until Doordash gives up here too).

    • annnnd we just opened our bread that we got delivered with Uber Eats and it's moudly. awesome.

      • +1

Aren't they just the delivery service though? Complain to the vendor you bought the bread/milk from

        • Do you expect that the Foodworks would do anything if we brought our milk and bread back to them? Part of the reason of using Uber Eats is so that we don't have to go to the store, and Uber is supposed to deal with the issues.

          • @theguyrules: Yes I do, if i ordered from a restaurant and Uber delivered it and the food was bad, I would complain to the restaurant not the driver.
Uber are not packing your order for you, they just pick it up and deliver it. Someone at the foodworks put it into a bag for them to pick up, they are the ones responsible

            • +1

@tritorius: Well, for me the point is that Uber is providing the service, they need to make it right. if that is via a refund so that I may re-order it, that's great. Otherwise there should be no expectation that I should have to drive to the store to correct their mistake.

            • @tritorius: Well, you didn’t exactly purchase from the restaurant. You purchased from Uber. Uber took the cash, and Uber holds the invoice. Therefore they are the ones able to issue refunds.

    • Surge pricing has gone bonkers, but that's lack of drivers thanks to low unemployment. Pretty much no one should drive ubereats, the only people that seem to are on bikes earning cash as a side job, nothing like it was mid-covid.

UberEats if you hit the refund cap there seems to be basically no point using it anymore. Unfortunately no one seems to know how much that is or what the logic of it is. Doordash drivers earn less though (according to people on reddit) so they're more willing to do uber deliveries. I never seem to have issues with uber.

Sounds like your local supermarket sucks though, I'd switch to coles/woolworths deliveries. Coles near me was crap but woolworths delivery has been almost flawless for years now.

      • I only used this local small grocery store because it was the only one open that time of the night.

Anyway I got my refund finally after threatening chargeback, and showing pictures of the mould.

  • If Uber exits Australia I wonder if Cashrewards will refund gift cards like Shopback did with Deliveroo.

    Nice avatar @Clear

  • I bought 8 but unfortunately my last 2 gift cards had invalid codes so just be wary!

Please read this thread. Could be related and remaining two should load after 24 hours?

      • Thanks - last two gift cards worked when I tried again today

        • Awesome :)

    • Similar here, bought 10 and the last one is invalid. I'll wait 24h before trying to load it again in the Uber app

      • Note; tried again this morning and the last gift card worked. Thanks

  • Out of interest, where is the $500 spend cap listed? I can't seem to find it on the CR website.

    • +1

It's not. It's a restriction put in place by True Rewards.

  • +1

I came here for the Uber is gonna go down like Deliveroo comments

  • Could have at least waited till midnight
