Thoughts? Reviews look terrible, value looks unskippable

    • +5

All that for the cost of a half-decent webcam, surely it’s as crap as the reviews suggest.

      • But if it works, that's good enough for me for this value. Anyone out there with experience with this?

I've got this set up since 2017. Sure it's nothing fancy in terms of picture quality this day and age, but it sure does the job and have not skipped a beat all these years.

Homesafe View app is not great, pretty slow to load if you're not in the same network (ie, using 4G/5G). It allows email notification on detections, which would spam your inbox if you do not set up filters accordingly.

DIY-able as it runs on 4x 18m BNC cable (included), 1 for each camera.

Also note you'll require 2x plug points, 1 to power up 4 cameras (its not POE), 1 for the DVR.

          • @lml: I'm pretty sure I have the 8 camera version of this as it looks the same machine, but I don't think mine supports Google/Alexa…

Same feedback as yours, it does the job and I find Homesafe View is pretty reliable (and the quality isn't too bad).

  • Some gave these a good review though, hmm

I've had one for about 6 months. I like it and have had no problems. Install was easy. Sure it could be better picture quality and it also has no audio, but look at the price. I paid $249 at JB's and consider even that price a bargain for what you get

This thing works as a fantastic deterrent.

Any thief who sees this cheap camera system will probably assume the owners can’t afford anything valuable and will skip breaking into your place.

Lmao 😆 love how your brain works sire

      • He's clearly speaking from personal experience

  • Bummer coax system but still not bad value

I bought similar many years ago. A bit outdated, but a lot better than nothing. Bargain price.

If anyone still has an ancient analog system, these are an easy way to upgrade to digital HD using your existing coax cables.

  • I had bought JB vouchers to buy a Eufy system but then all that hullaballoo came out about Eufy, so now i'm at a loss on what to get. I'd like to be able to check my cameras while I'm away from home, but also have local storage. 24/7 recording would be nice but not necessary - I'm wondering why people seem to hate Swann on OzB, are they really that bad? And if so, what brand do I check out?

"hullaballoo"?? What chu talkin' bout Willis?

    • I'd be guessing this is tuya based - so I think this would have just as many security concerns as eufy, if not more

    • Hikvision look good.

  • "Reliable wired connection". How hard is wiring it? Looks like a sparky job.

Swann systems are pretty garbage for their apps. System seems to be meh, but the apps are terrible. They seem to abandon their apps to create new ones but the new ones are just as bad and old ones never get better.

If youre after a dirt cheap system its ok. But if youre after something remotely decent, swann isnt the brand. They seem to be at a race to the bottom.

For the price Im grabbing one for the farm. Dont expect much for the $$

    Delivery to SA was $10

Its night vision quality is only good enough to see whether any objects are within its viewing range but not sufficient to identify their identities though.

  • I have the 8 camera version and it’s been rock solid for 2 years now.
Video quality is not the best for detail but ok for broad based surveillance.
Easy to install if you are half competent at crawling around the ceiling void and or removing tiles etc.
I used a couple of conduit lengths and poked around a bit but got there.
As others have said the Homesafe View app is not the best, has a garbage UI, but will work.
For the $280 I paid then on special, its ok, but if I’m honest, I wish it would fail so that I can upgrade to 4K.

  • It is a bit old system, with limited quality. I wouldn't say junk but considering today's technology not worth to buy.
Please consider paying more for the item as you will spending same money for someone to put it up.
