  • Is this insane value?

    • +1

For 75" and TCL which it's an ok brand , I think it's a really good value.I don't personally own a TCL but I know people that do. And they are pleased with the overall value for money.

      • I remember during late 80s or early 90s we had black n white TV which was TCL.
Long enough to be trusted. Feels nostalgic getting all these TCL deals.

  • This has been the price since Black Friday. It was much better deal back then https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/736470

    • Unfortunately these boxing day the specials are not as good as black friday specials. So far Jb hifi and the Good guys catalogue specials are very disapponting.

      • +1

$725 is just too good of a deal with those bonus cashback etc.

better to just wait for something like this

also 60hz is bad if you want to use it for gaming future proofing

  • +3

$985 on the good guys website if you click "pay less with daily price check"

    • I can't find that anywhere.

      • Under the price it's a " PAY LESS WITH DAILY PRICE CHECK " click on there and it will show you the $985 price.

        • +2

Thanks, just realized my adblocker was blocking it, shows up in incognito.

  • Is this thing really 1660mm wide? I was trying to figure out whether it will fit in my current entertainment unit and compare with my 55” Hisense. Current one is around 1350mm.

  • +10

Even cheaper on their eBay Store if you have eBay Plus and use code PLUSDEC1 to get it for $945.25

    • I have eBay plus, looks like I still have to pay for postage ($55). Am I doing something wrong?

      • +1

        Select click & collect ;-)

      • +1

Otherwise $55 for delivery isn’t too bad. The deal in OP also doesn’t include delivery.

  • +1

Anyone know how TCL compare to Hisense? I was looking at the 65” Hisense for 888 at JB but the 75” tcl at this price seems better value.
Lost faith in the bigger brands after my 65” sony died after 5 years

Don't expect these to do any better.
They are cheap chinese brands which probably use cheap components to cut cost.

Lost faith in the bigger brands after my 65” sony died after 5 years

how long you expect TV to last?
most are throwaway after x years.

Also what was the problem when it died?
what was the model and how much paid?

      • I would typically not go towards these lower end brands but there seems to be quite a lot of good reviews for Hisense..

My Sony was mid range around $1700 when purchased. I expect a good tv to last at least 8-10years. I do not want to purchase something like this with an expectation to throw it away in a few years. With that said if all brands have a similar life span now then I’d rather not overpay for a ‘disposable’ item.

The issue with the Sony I suspect is a backlight/led string issue. Sony would not offer to repair even for a fee. Third party quoted $500 for a repair but obviously no warranty etc on that so I’m not sure if the repair is worth it.

I have an old 42” ‘dumb’ Samsung plasma and lg LED that are both well over 10years old and going strong…these have met and exceeded my expectation in terms of value

        • +4

You should have gone to consumer rights. $1700 it’s a lot of money and I would expect to get more than 5 years.
I own a 65” HiSense which I bought for around $1300 which is 4 years and still going strong.
I also own a Viano 55” which I paid less than $400 and it’s 3 years still going well.

sadly backlight/led failure is the most common failure with LCD/LED TVs.
I think backlight failure is due to cheap components and/or how the person uses the TV

Many LCD TVs that are thrown out is usually because of failed backlight.

With that said if all brands have a similar life span now then I’d rather not overpay for a ‘disposable’ item.

Many electronics nowadays are designed/engineered with planned obsolescence..
It is not like the old days where products last a long time e.g. CRT TV etc.

          Did you threaten with ACL?
5 years is not acceptable lifespan of a $1700 TV.
I think ACL acceptable life span is 7 to 10 years for a TV.. though they are not specific

If Sony don't care about ACL threat, then try to report it to ACCC or fair-trading.
You got nothing to lose if you do.

          • @pinkybrain: I personally found fair-trading isn’t very helpful. Bought a pool pump from a big online retailer (something warehouse), it was clearly stated 5 years warranty on the website and invoice. When the motor failed, they refused to repair under warranty, said it is 3+2 years, which means I need to pay 50% the repair cost after 3 years. The funny part is 50% repair cost is greater than a new pump (with discount). Fair-trading tried to talk with them and said “sorry”.
What I am tying to say is please do not expect too much from fair trading.

My Sony 9000B or 900B I bought back in 2013 is still going strong. Mind you it did cost just under $3000 delivered. I upgraded just over 2 years ago to an OLED but my brother is using the Sony and he is very impressed. Luck of the draw, I suppose. You are always going to find some people being disappointed and some people who are very happy with their purchase, regardless of the product.

      • I feel your expectations on the lifespan of a $1700 quality brand tv are on the low side.

    • +3

They are both direct lit, I would say they are comparable. You want to avoid an edge lit TV in this size, both these TVs are 'mid-range'. I wasn't happy with the motion artefacts in my Hisense, but that was a lower model.

I have bought this TCL, I think it's decent, but it was much better value with the 2x cash back offers available on black Friday and TGG store cash offer (brought it down to $730). I don't see the point of spending 2x or 3x the price for another brand that will still have compromises.

Also ignore any comments about the OS being slow from people who bought a TCL TV 5 years ago. There is no trouble with responsiveness, and it has google TV built in.

      • This is helpful input. Cheers

    • check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_JrZ_roLF4
Here you will find the strength and weakness of 5 TV brands: Samsung, LG Sony TCL Hisense & Panasonic

General rule of thumb: we get what we pay for.

For TCL brand at this size and this price, it is a good deal.

  • is Google TV smooth to run as OS on the TV?
Is Google TV OS different/newer than TVs with Android TV OS?

or better to get WebOS TV etc some other?

    • Google TV offers more personalisation than Android OS, it is like the YouTube experience. It is a very smooth OS and supports all the apps you would want.

      • Do you actually have this TV? The interface is far from smooth.

        • +1

Yes I do. I think the interface is smooth enough. Perhaps it could be better, but it's a TV, not a tablet. It isn't slow enough to require a chromecast IMO

          • +1

@greatlamp: Fair enough. Perhaps I'm spoilt by my other TV (this one is in the kids' playroom) but I really find this one hard to deal with.

            • @caitsith01: True, perhaps "very smooth" is an overstatement, it isn't perfect

            • @caitsith01: So you own this exact model?
Can you an install any apps/games from google play store?

Also how much storage and memory does your TV have?

  • +1

This appears to be the standard price. Most stores selling for around $995. So, not really a bargain. Shame the cash backs and TCL promos have ended.

    • wait for another one..

these cashback offers are a regular cycle to clear old stock

  • Wish they would do the qled model for $1200 ish

    • I was looking at QLEDs. But the reality hit that its just a filter over the screen, and that filter makes viewing from the side really poor. So anyone watching TV from the side couch will get this horrible/ poor contrast image.

I adjusted the settings on a non QLED next to a QLED and got it looking 99% as good.

  • +2

I got this a few weeks back with all the cashback deals and I have an older 85 inch TCL.
Tv itself is excellent great picture HDR etc

Google tv is much faster on this tv then my older one but I would still buy a chrome cast or something as it will be faster

  • +1

Some weird comments here (TCL employees?).

I have the smaller version of this TV. The picture quality is acceptable for what it is but:

    1. The interface is horrible, very slow and unresponsive.
    2. It takes a solid 20+ seconds for wifi to become stable when you turn it on.
    3. Despite #2, it also has incredibly poor wifi stability.

I also have a high end Sony OLED and the difference in quality is vast and very noticeable.

Decent cheap TV but I would plan on buying a chromecast or similar if you are buying it and factor that into the price.

    • +1

Sounds like your tv has a specific problem, rather than all TCL tvs.
Like others, I have TCLs. I've bought 7 since 2014. I replaced a 6 year old 65" model at 6 years when the picture started getting dodgy. All the rest going well.
Other than that - no quality issues at all.
      (Shamesung employee?)

    • Have you tried it plugged into your network by wire if the wifi is that bad, at least as a test?

Comparing it to a Sony OLED, arguably the best TV in the market, (and at least 5x the price) I think isn't a fair comparison.

  • +1

I'm not a TCL employee and have a couple of TCL 55inch and they are bloody terrific. My mum has a Toshiba 55inch…..now that is one awful tv!

The only thing I can fault on my TCL's is it struggles to stream Plex from overseas servers when my Sony works great.

  • Got this Tv during black friday. Would say for the price you pay it is a good tv.
Google tv was okay but I went with chromecast tv.

    • Google tv, what is good or bad about it?

please share your experience of the TV + google TV?

65C735 for $1095 + delivery on TGG Ebay with code PLUSDEC1.
75C735 for $1395 + delivery on TGG Ebay with code PLUSDEC1.

I would say these are better value, if you can stretch the budget.

      • I believe 75C735 is 1420 after PLUSDEC 1 (excl delivery)

        • Sorry, wrong code. I meant 'SNSDEC' which takes off $100 over $1000+.

Binglee has it at the same price with an additional 6% @ cash rewards

  • Any cheap deals on a 55"+ with vrr and HDMI 2.1?

  • $966 at Catch. I assume plus delivery or free delivery for Club Catch.

    https://m.catch.com.au/product/tcl-75p735-75-inch-4k-hdr-tv-…

  • I've got 65C835 miniled and my friend got 75P735 and if you have the external speaker system, you can go for 75p735.
I feel like 75inch is the new norm, I wish I got the 75C835 miniled version, also better quality and better sound system.
You should get 75C835 if you can stretch the budget.

  • you can still get this for 995 + shipping if you have ebay plus

just a side note i have a 65" 4k sony and a TCL 65" 4k in another room, both using NVIDIA shields (first gen) and i cannot complain at all

the TCL is horrible with multi channel audio, be sure to get a soundbar or you wont hear anyone talking
