what SSD brand is in the PC?

what brand is this RX6500XT 4GB VGA Card?

what motherboard model and brand is it?

  • +4

yikes. 10400f (supports pcie gen3 only) with the 6500 XT is a bad time. needs at least a 500 series motherboard and an 11400F for this kind of config to be viable.

    • +9

Viable for what, though? Kids play minecraft/roblox on ipads or integrated graphics in their laptops. Why is gen3 a straight up avoid? I think for the price, this is perfectly reasonable. It might not suit YOUR standards, but it might be perfectly fine for others.

      • +6

It's not viable because it is a system that doesn't maximise the performance of its components. Gen3 pcie is fine if coupled with a GPU that isn't totally nerfed when run via a pcie gen3 bus. These are pre-built systems designed to be sold to people who don't know how to build their own PCs so they should be properly configured and balanced, otherwise people are throwing money in the bin.

        • I see. I was unaware about the gen3 6500xt issue. Is it really that bad?

            @shiny1: AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT PCI-Express Scaling: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-radeon-rx-6500-xt-pci…

            TL;DR - PCIE 3.0 vs 4.0: 1080P 34% slower, 1440P 29% slower and 4K 45% slower.

          • +1

@shiny1: A gpu rarely bottlenecks on pcie bandwidth, because normally they're x8 or x16 lanes/connections. For some reason this card is x4, so on the slower pcie3 speed those 4 lanes aren't enough to keep up and heavily bottleneck the card.

      • I think the point is valid though. The 6500XT gets pretty nerfed on anything other than PCIE4.
Given it's billed as a "gaming PC" it should be trying to maximise every drop of performance out of that GPU.

        • Given it's billed as a "gaming PC" it should be trying to maximise every drop of performance out of that GPU.

Don't think the seller cares as long it hits a selling price point.

    • Yeah, this is nonsense.
A computer needs to be good enough to do what you want it to do for the money you paid for it, in order to be 'viable'.
Chasing benchmark numbers to the nth degree is for niche hobbyists, not for people who just want to play Rocket League.

      • When you have a PC that performs worse than 6 year old budget GPUs, that's a problem. If you just want a video out and light gaming, buy a 5600g system with no dGPU and save $200. Or spend $272 more and get a PC three times faster.

This is a defective system put together by overstocked old/bad parts that need a massive clearance sale. But rather than do that, they put it into a very bad-value gaming PC, and people say things like "well, this doesn't cost all too much and it can play rocket league, so it's a bargain"…

I generally like BPCTECH but this feels like a PC they've put together from overstock parts, rather than a build trying to provide value to the customer.

For those wondering how bad the 6500xt on PCIe 3 issue is you're talking somewhere around 15 +/- 5% typical lost frame rate which is horrible.

    Disappointing even at this price.

  • +1

they should have at lease built a system around PCIE gen4 so it fully utilises the GPU.

    • +1

      don't think they care..

they just look at what is in their inventory that needs clearing out

  • -1

6500 XT should not be used in a PCIe 3.0 system. Even though this system is more expensive, it's a night and day difference between the two PCs (at least 200% more FPS at 1440p for only 43% more).

    • just double the half $$ you get a better system.
