Just something to look out for on this version of the monitor, you can't update the firmware yourself. If you end up with an earlier model with older firmware, there may be issues and you'll need to send it back to Dell for them to update it.

  • -1

I wonder how editing photos with lines would go on a curved

    • -1

      will looks curvy

    • +1

This monitor is best used for gaming. Text or lines on dark backgrounds have a lot of edge fringing and artifacts. Not really suitable for coding or photo editing.

  • +3

Right as I buy a 7900 XTX. Shame they don't sell the Freesync model.

    • +3

They sell it at dell.com and there is a 12% code that still works. On my phone so won't link but have a quick look for the dwf model here for the original post

    • Go for this model, higher HZ anyway.

      • Gsync doesn't work with Radeon GPUs last I checked?

      • +1

This model has a fan on the GSync model that is audible. To be considered.

New freesync model does not have said fan.

        • -1

Unless your room is dead silent you wont hear the fan.

          • -1

@Axelstrife: Nah, mines pretty bloody loud, depends on your lottery for the gsync fan

        • They both have a fan, this one has an additional one for the gsync module

    • -4

That card is overkill for a 1440p monitor in any case.

    • where did you get your 7900 xtx from? i’m looking into upgrading from my 6600 xt!

      • +1

I pre-ordered the Sapphire Nitro+ from Computer Alliance. It says out of stock but I contacted them and they said you can still place and order and when they arrive it'll be sent out.

        • awesome, thanks for letting me know!

  • +3

Hopefully there will be a boxing day deal on the DWF model, also ppl need to get over the 250$ 38" price error 'deal'

    • -3

They really do. You keep seeing people claiming other recieved thier $250 38". Ive yet to see anyone actually claiming this give any sort of proof.

      • +2

People gave proof in the actual deal thread if that's what you're referring to

    • Are there people still whinging about that price error?

  • Possibly a silly question, but does this have built in speakers?

    • +1

It doesn't according to multiple reviews

  • +5

Wouldn't buy unless under $1400. Was ~$1391 the other month at JB after discounts

      • +5

Not useless, i always use deal history on OZB to decide when to buy or jump

      • +3

You don't have to pay any attention to my comment at all. I personally never bought it, but a mate did. Just letting people know that it has been cheaper so perhaps they can save a bit of money when it pops up again for a similar price. If you can't wait, feel free - at least you can enjoy it sooner

  • +2

Would highly recommend not purchasing. If you have any issues (including burn in), Dell will only swap you a refurbished one which has already been given back for another defect.

    • +2

      Source?

This is the first I have heard of this, and I own one

      • +1

My own one, they’ll give you one that has micro scratches in the coating/loud fan/flickering that someone has given it back for, and they’ve likely just repackaged it because the issue isn’t immediately apparent

        • +1

The warranty is thorough JB. Any problems you take it back to them, not Dell.
Besides the point, you risk burn in for any OLED displays, so if that is enough to a scare you away I would not recommend you purchase any OLED products.

          • +2

@thousandsuns: For immediate defects yes, but good luck trying to get JB to facilitate anything a couple years down the line.

The risk for burn in is always there, but the way it’s dealt with is completely different between products/companies. I replaced it with a 42 C2 as I know that LG immediately replaces all burnt in panels regardless of how old they are. You’re not going to get that from Dell

            • @cille745: Fair point. I've purchased this. Hoping I don't have the same issues as you.

          • +1

@thousandsuns: Gl with trying claim warranty from JB after 6 months. They will just ask you to contact dell. Yea its illegal but these companies are thiefs.

            • +1

@Ryxxi: The website says 3yrs warranty. So highly doubtful they can do that legally.

      • +2

This is standard practice for Dell. I have another monitor (not this model) that stopped worked beginning of the year, so they sent a refurb that didn't turn on at all. It took literally 8 weeks of back and forth with countless reps for them to understand that their 'new' replacement was faulty as well, and to send another replacement.

Lots of excuses, including no stock, despite it being in stock on their website. What they really meant was that they had no stock of broken or refurb units that other customers had sent back, that they could forward to me. I don't expect a new replacement, but if you're out of refurbs, send the customer a new unit so they don't have to wait 2 months. Terrible experience and the worst communication I've ever dealt with.

        • Sounds like a nightmare! I wonder if you'd be able to do a credit card charge back for something like this? You bought a new monitor at a new monitor price, you shouldn't have to settle for a refurb unit.

  • This has been cheaper before , I'd wait for a better deal and no NVIDIA module

  • I get it. It’s OLED. But Jesus even after discounts it’s $1700? Fjerk.

  • Could be a silly question for some people, what advantages of this vs LG OLED TV which probably have 4K 120Hz for less?

    • +1

I believe the most significant differences are that it's matte rather than glossy, and it has a displayport socket.

    • +1

It uses a semi gloss coating that makes it less reflective and it’s 175hz. Honestly the LG is better all round

    • its also not 4k so you dont need a 3090 to get 140 fps

  • +3

I don't think I could go back to 175hz anymore.

(Satire based on the comments on any 24-25 inch monitor about how people can't go back to them)

  • Is anyone else having trouble with setting up a purchase for delivery from JB? I'm trying to order a TV but I am assuming that the problem might be affecting everything.

  • Noob question from my end but what's the main purpose of the G Sync module?

    • Enhances the variable refresh rate capabilities with NVIDIA cards (used to be the only way to get variable refresh rate in a monitor).

  • Anyone seen deals on the newer freesync model?

  • 240Hz OLED coming soon, shipping in US Jan.

    • what card can run games at that and almost 4k - even 4090 will struggle

      • Not really 4k is 38% more demanding than 1440p ultrawide. If anything 4090 is perfect for high refresh rate ultrawide. 5million pixels vs. 8million.

  • I feel the pixel density is too low for this size. If it was 4k I would buy straight away.

    • Seems like the curse is you can either have OLED or you can have high pixel density, but not both at the same time :(

    • -1

Pretty much every 34inch ultrawide has this pixel density. So you are wrong. It wouldn't even be 4k, it would be something else anyway

sold my 1 year old aw3821dw to my sister for $800 and bought this in 4 payments via paypal. its coming 5th of jan

  • I got a $400 JB gift card for Christmas was going to buy this but surprised to see the negative comments.

    I have a 3080, 13th gen i5.
Using an old 27inch ROG g sync monitor, 1440o from 5 years ago.
Any reason I shouldn’t get this?

    • It will amazing image quality and HDR being OLED, just be aware of possible fan noise, raised blacks with a lot of ambient light (though should still be better than IPS), burn-in (Dell has 3year burn-in warranty anyway) and text/high contrast colour fringing because of the RGB triangle sub-pixel layout. Watch hardware unboxed review for more details and also rtings review for more test results and pictures of raised blacks etc :)

    • +1

It's one of the best monitors in existence, definitely not bad, but has its cons as Damon8 pointed out.

    • Accoriding to RTINGS it's the best possible monitor you can get on the market.
I'm astonished by people's claim regarding the fan sound. I personally would be using headphones whilst gaming and earphones when I'm working, so I don't see it being any issue.

  • Would it be better to purchase this through Amazon or JB? I am worried about the potential for bubble-wrap caused scratching on the panel, as well as if the fan causes any issues as I have seen numerous reports of. Whoever has the best warranty is who I want to buy from.

    • It's 3 yrs manufacturer's warranty. So it makes no difference. Personally recommend you buy off a physical store instead as they'll be easy to deal with.

  • Anyone successfully got dell to price match JB hifi or any other stores?

I've tired but had no success yet. As they won't match certain sales. Told the sales rep I was disappointed and thought dell would be more competitive.

Anyways rep said he would look into it further and get back to me via email. Been 24hrs haven't heard back yet. I'm not expecting a follow up now.

  • +1

    This just arrived from JB!

    • Nice. What was the estimated delivery date when you ordered on JB website? Says 26th January eta for me.
Will be interesting to hear if you have and defects or scratches like earlier batches. Also can you tell me the firmware version?

      • ETA was 5th of January. Ordered same day this deal was posted. Firmware is M0B102. Haven't noticed any defects yet.

I gotta say though. the size difference compared to my aw3821dw is quite noticeable.

        • I'm on the fence if to order this model via JB or buy the new AW3423DWF non g-sync model for $1614 through Dell.

I do have a Geforce 4090. But from what I've read G-sync Ultimate isnt really required these days.

          • @Bugg0: i got a 4090 as well. the user can upgrade the firmware on the AW3423DWF as well. the picture difference is striking. night and day difference but really am missing the slightly bigger screen.

          • @Bugg0: If it helps your decision process the non-gsync only has 1 fan but the gsync model has 2 fans so will become noisier over time as the bearings wear.
