I guess OW has price-matched AmazonAU for the mac mini M1 8gb/256gb

($82.90 cheaper than Edu pricing)

You might be able to get OW to price-match the 8gb/512gb version for $1139.05 as it is $1199 on AmazonAU

      I don't think TDM works with apple silicon m1 and 2013 iMacs (at least according to your link)

      Perhaps one of the other 3 methods would work.

    This uses a lot more power than you may think it does.

    TDM requires the whole system to be running so while you’re just using the display, the whole system is active and consuming power.

      Yeah, better of getting any cheap display posted here than running an older iMac. Mac minis are great for its low power consumption.

      I find I miss having more than 8gb on my MacBook Air m1, but I do have a thousand tabs open and VScode and other stuff. If you’re a light computer user it is probably fine.

    Horses for courses. It depends whether you need the portability of the Air. Otherwise the Mac mini will probably be cheaper, even after university discount, back to school sale and the CashRewards that usually happens sometime in that sale period.
