Herman Miller Aeron at $2,150 + Delivery @ Living Edge

251

First time deal poster, looks to be 2,150 for the A, B, and C sizes. Not sure when it runs until and couldn't find anything on the site suggesting when it ends, just states its Limited time only. Can get it delivered and assemble yourself, or get it delivered and assembled for a little extra. Pick up from Sydney warehouse is also an option

Living Edge is one of the few listed dealers of HM chairs in Australia.

Currently sitting in an Aeron and it is pretty comfortable. I would recommend trying it before using it as it's not for everyone.

What advantages does this chair have over, say, a train? Which I could also afford

    • +4

      Look at you Mr 💰.

    • +3

Only one chair to sit in means less decision fatigue?

    • +1

I know this chair doesn't gently massage your foot when you drive.

    • Guess my ass can’t afford it.

    • … while gently massaging the buttocks.

    • Well, you'll notice the heated armrests warms your arms while…….ility massages your buttocks

    • It's got speed holes

  • +5

Nice! I needed a spare chair to sit my breakfast bowl on.

  • +4

    $2,150 chair = "pretty comfortable" :O

  • +13

Herman Miller chairs are worth the price tag if you sit in front of a computer for 8+hrs a day. I've sat on a cheaper "ergonomic" chairs for 6 years and I would spend that $2k in chiro/physio bills at least every quarter. I learnt that the hard way.

    • +18

there are people who spend 8 hours a day in a car …. does herman miller make car seats ?

    • +8

Like ergonomic chairs, not all physiotherapists are created equally….

    • +1

For this money I wouldn't be buying an Aeron though, as someone who has owned one previously. They're built well but they don't offer the support that other high end office chairs do - mine would give me a sore back after a few hours. For my money I'd go with an Embody or the Steelcase Gesture.

If you keep an eye on gumtree/grays often you can pick them up for much cheaper. Currently sitting on a Steelcase Think that I bought second hand for $50 because some office closed down and they had 30+ to get rid of.

    • +1

      Or buy a standing desk.

    • +2

I hear this from my work colleagues too, none of them exercise regularly. A standing desk will do a lot more for people than the difference this chair will do compared to another quality chair for 1/4 the price.

    • You should have spent that money on Gym/Yoga memberships and protein powders/meat/eggs.

      • -7

        Roids too?

        • +1

You cant buy them legally unfortunately. Am not saying the chair is a bad investment, but you shouldnt wait till you reach phsiotherapy as much as possible. Until its your last resort.

          • @John Doh: Not today unfortunately. Society has been set up to allow people an 'out' via some form of paid remedy or service. Exercise and hard work is the last resort.

Now, where's that fat pill at?

    • +1

Definitely worth for office, tax deductable, fully adjustable for most body shapes and comes with service plan. For single use at home, sure if you have $$$ or just buy a chair that fits you.

I have been using them for years at work but I wouldn't pay more than $500 for personal use.

Some ppl in Ozb should be good at marketing.

    I bought a second-hand aeron a few years ago

It's the cream of the crop end-game chair, but note this is NOT a chair to lounge around on, because of the hard plastic around the mesh, you are forced into an upright position.

If you enjoy watching movies off your PC and like to lay back and have a leg crossed etc, this will not be comfortable,

I'd say second-hand at around $750-800 it's probably worth, at 2k, not sure

    • -3

This is 2k for a Brand New one, not second hand though

      • +10

        Apologies, I wasn't clear,

Second-hand at 750-800 in good condition?
        Worth.

        Brand-new at $2150?
        Not sure if worth.

    • +2

I would agree. If you can get one 2nd hand esp ex office as they are pretty much new for sub 700 then it's worth a try. These things are made to last so the mesh should be in great condition. The adjustable foam lumbar cushion can wear out though.

The Leap at full price is still $1000 less and offers much more adjustability and imo more comfortable. I had both. Sold off the Aeron.

    • I'd say second-hand at around $750-800 it's probably worth, at 2k, not sure

      Tell him he's dreamin'!

Sorry, can't think of second-hand ergonometric chairs without thinking of The Castle.

    • +1

you are forced into an upright position

That's the idea when you at work for 8hrs. To save your back from back pain.

      • Yup I agree, brilliant chair for folks working from home

  • +5

Companies usually enjoy huge discount when purchasing a lot, we should consider the retail price as an anchor only, no one should ever pay more than 60% of it's RRP.

  • this makes an iphone 14 pro max look cheap

    • +2

The iPhone wouldn't be very comfortable though.

  • +5

Remember last year when it was like only 1600$?

    • +2

I remember pre-covid when they regularly went on sale for $999

    • +4

I bought one in 2005 from the LivingEdge for $1140 (from $1600), how this can still be as expensive is beyond me, I'm fairly certain it dropped below $1K too.

Sounds like we're Closer To The Edge. But I'm not saaaying, I'm sorry (for buying it - back then).

      • +2

Got mine fully loaded one for $1200 early 2019

  • +1

surely the embody at $2335 is better value:

    https://livingedge.com.au/chairs/office-chairs/herman_miller…

    even in stealth colours

  • +10

It was $990 in 2014. Basically price will go up by $145 each year. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/129180

    • +3

Yeah I remember being able to get them for ~$1200 just a couple of years ago. What has changed to make them worth twice the price?

      • +8

        Wank factor

      • +2

What has changed to make them worth twice the price?

The exchange rate hasn't helped, then there's oil and shipping prices. There's increased demand too. Global pandemics don't help.

        • +3

Shipping prices? How are there cheap 100$ chinese chairs? They teleport?

      • +1

What has changed to make them worth twice the price?

A lot of people work from home now and they understandably want to splurge on a good office chair.

You can also claim the cost of the chair in your tax return so people don't really care how much the chair costs.

    • +3

I bought mine last year in June 2021 and it was $1590.

      Now it’s almost $600 more.

      Inflation is real.

      • I was a bit reluctant when the price was about $1.2K then didn't pull the trigger when it was at this price. I ended up paying $1849 for it.

  • +7

Wow, can’t believe the Aaron Miller is now over $2k “on special”! I bought mine from Living Edge quite a few years ago when they were going for $1150!

Solidly built chair but to be honest I never found it particularly THAT comfortable. It’s great in summer as the mesh allows your back and butt to ventilate but the plactic edges can dig into your thighs a bit and be uncomfortable

    • +4

Who is Aaron Miller and why is he letting you sit on him?

      • Related to Aaron Carter, but not by birth

  • +1

Consider getting the Embody for a bit more: https://www.innerspacedirect.net.au/products/EMBODY-BY-HERMA…

  • +9

Haworth and Steelcase (both American large furniture companies) sell their chairs for half this. This is NOT worth it and they've jacked 3 their pricing up hugely in the last few years, you are now paying purely for the brand.

Look at the Fern chair as an alternative perhaps at half the price from OW with a 12 year warranty and arguably a more comfy back. 2nd hand Leap and Zody's also exist below $800. This chair is NOT 2-3x better.

Human Scale is also an alternative.

    • -7

One is American made the others are Chinese.

      • +5

Bruh your iPhone is made in China - that's not the argument it used to be 20 years ago.

        Also… https://www.hermanmiller.com/en_au/press/press-releases/herm…

The fact you think HM is only American made is an utter egg on your face. Did you know they also manufacture in India?

        • -2

As far as I knew all aeron’s were made in the US, wasn’t aware they were now made in China too.

Whilst China excels in most areas of manufacturing and is the world leader in some, I don’t believe high end furniture to be one of these just yet.

    • Countless discussions on Aeron vs Leap. I do agree Aeron is overpriced but if you have back problems, get the chair that will solve it regardless of price

      • +1

I have the Fern, prefer that - though I know others will disagree. I've used the Aeron previously and while it was fine, the plastic edges always felt like they were cutting into me, no matter how I adjusted myself. I got the version without adjustable lumbar as the lumbar I felt was too aggresive for the Fern.

  • +5

I'm with everyone else. What. The. Heck!?! Over 2 grand for a chair that was less than $1000 eight years ago? Seriously, a joke.

    • Similar things happened in coffee machines over the last 2 years

  • cheapest way to fix your back is stand

  • It’s all supply and demand. If there’s enough suckers out there willing to fork out $2k for them then they will continue to charge that.

I’m glad I’ve bought enough HM chairs for the family when they were fraction of what they cost now.

  • -5

Umm - am I on Ozbargains?
Or has it morphed into Homes and Gardens?

    • Oh look you can save almost $300 if you take it without arms. There's the bargain.

  • +5

Welcome, all people who don't want to spend $2k on a desk chair, but have a comment to spare.

  • I’m worth try out a prolonged seating session. I’ve got a slipped disc so it hurts after awhile. I would’ve continued using mine if this wasn’t the case since it’s really comfortable but it doesn’t allow you to sit poorly like on the side of the seat or cross legged as it’s really uncomfortable then

  • These used to be ~$1800..

    • +2

      house used to be 100k

      • yea 30 years ago not 3.

        • well before covid, houses were 30% cheaper

  • Is this better than my $5 Kmart chair?

  • +3

Wow price for this has gone up so much. I'm sitting on one that I bought for $1,286 lol

  • wait for grab 10 comment…

  • +3

Never buy a chair without trying it first. After trying, I prefer Soji over Zodi - which is more expensive.

  • YES!
It’s it’s an expensive chair, but I have no regrets spending that much on just a ‘chair’.

Sure there’s similar for half the price (steelcase, Hayworth, betacure, eurotech etc).
But I’ve had spinal surgery and will not take anything less. Team this with an atlas headrest and it’s pretty darn impressive combo.

Keep in mind those that bought this for $1000~ would’ve been for the older ‘classic’ model, this price is for the new ‘remastered’ version.

I do recommend sizing up if you are in between sizes, or go into the showroom if possible.

  • Posted this in a different deal last week but this chair can be had for under $2k + postage:

FWIW the Aeron can still be purchased for $2k + postage if anyone is interested. Which is almost 25% off the RRP

  • Aeron? For $2k I’m disappointed they didn’t name it “the Hermanator”…

  • While I hear they are great chairs this particular deal is on narrow selection of an already excessively priced product. If it is suitable to downvote other products for being expensive even when there is a discount then it seems a fair use here.

  • I'm sitting on my 10 year old Herman Miller Aeron that I got for $1150 so that is a big increase over a decade. It's done a lot more hours than planned when I bought it with WFH over the last couple of years, but is still in great nick.

If you know this chair suits your body style and sitting style, it can last you 15+ years. But $2150 is seriously expensive.

    • got my for $1250 only 4 years ago, glad I did
