Thanks for posting the deal, personally I don't like the "lip" where the mesh meets the rim keeping the chair in place - the lip cuts off circulation.

At work we use the Howarth Zody (a similar price) but I think is a far far superior chair personally.
    (google image it, quite nice)

Now for some grammatical complaints which have bugged me for 30 years (prepare for vote downs!) Saying something is the cheapest in Aussie is like being in England and saying "Cheapest in English"

    • +15

      Howarth Zody

And spelling mistakes - I think it's meant to be Haworth Zody.

      • +8

I found people abusing the voting system too much these days.

What's wrong with correcting the spelling by quarrymaster?

      • +1

Yeah that one - nice chair.

        • Great warranty service on the Zody, too. The gas strut became a bit non staying-uppy (hello grammar police :)) and they sent somebody out to my home office within days, took it away for half an hour, then brought it back with a new gas strut. A good spin on "you get what you pay for".

      • Ironically you've made yet another grammatical mistake - beginning a sentence with a conjunction ("And").

        • +4

I really don't think standard grammatical rules apply here, as he was continuing what somebody else said, it is perfectly reasonable to start with a conjunction. Stop being nit-picky.

        • +1

Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

    • is there one with mesh seat?

    • After your recommendation. I went to investigate the Haworth Zody and bought one. It is very similar to my Aeron in quality and yes it felt more comfortable to sit on. It is a bit lighter than the Aeron and the quaiity is 98% to Aeron. The adjustment is more intuitive than Aeron. My Aeron for some reason is squeeky and not the Zody. Overall the Zody is a winner but I felt the Aeron my be more durable because of its construction.

      • If you're in Sydney, where did you get yours and how much?

        • I was lucky enough to find a very good condition sample on on Ebay and picked up close to where I live for $400.

  • +19

    inb4 price comparisons to $20 officeworks chairs….

as a side note, I had one of these at a previous employer. It's like the chair is having sex with your back and neck. My current employers chairs are like milk crates in comparison.

    • +2

Pretty sure I'm sitting on a $14 Officeworks chair :|

  • +10

I inherited one of these from my uncle. I could never imagine paying for it, though I could never imagine living without it.

    • +20

Why does it matter if it is made in China or not?

        • +3

Thats just a stupid racist comment

        • -7

You bring great shame to the name 'Brad' with your juvenile racism.

        • -6

You guys are QT's. It's a FACT that a majority of Chinese products FAIL prematurely.

        • +11

Your missus says the same thing about you, does that mean it's fair to assume you're Chinese?

        • +1

+1 for taking my comment out of context.

        • +4

Mate most of the product now is made in China. Tv, mobile phone, laptop, pc, etc. They all break by time.

        • -1

I'm Chinese and I wouldn't buy a chair from China. They've been known to explode. Warning: Don't Google image it if you have a weak stomach.

        • +1

you can't live without "Made in China" these days. so be respectful at least.
Question the companies why they choose their production base in China.

        • +14

Racism?? How is commenting about the manufacturing quality of consumer products from a certain country "racist"?

        • +6

yeh it's just a chair man mao

        • +3

Chairs have feelings too you know?

        • +1

Totally Agree. It is so called company management who wants maximum profit with least quality. Asian countries can makes goods from low quality to very high quality.
My friend is in clothing business and he always have to fight with clients who are more concerned about the low cost rather than the quality.
Unfortunately majority of people are buying cheap products though they know it won't last long.

So complaining about quality based on country of origin is not fair.

        • +1

Are you using iPhone or any Apple products? They are made in China as well.
If you think they are not good please give them to me.

        • you get what you pay for…

        • -3

Now how about those Great Wall cars, they are chinese brand and china made, they are cheap high quality cars, why do so many people don't like them.

        • "Chairs have feelings" - oh boy! and they take a lot of gas!

        • haha love it. end of discussion.

    • +2

Made on earth. Does it make you feel more comfortable buying it now?

    • +3

'Why does it matter if it is made in China or not?'
'That's just a stupid racist comment'

Not sure if trolling or OzBargain average IQ just dropped 50 points.

Question the companies why they choose their production base in China.

      Must be for the quality.

  • +2

I have to much stuff draped over my chair to make it comfy anyway…….

  • +2

    How much is it usually?

    • +3

The Aussie RRP is about $1400. They're about $880 USD retail; much less if you buy second hand.

From memory, there are only two companies who sell Aerons in Australia, and they both operate out of the same post office box, which is why our RRP is so much more than the US retail price.

They are great chairs though, and assuming these guys honour Herman Miller's ten year warranty, it might be worth buying from them rather than importing a bunch from the US.

      • Looks like you can get a new model B (mid-size) on eBay.com for USD$605, including free US shipping.

      • +2

They actually provide 12 years warranty
I have been following second hand on ebay and haven't seen any Aeron under 650$ and that's second hand

        • -1

This item is covered by a 12 year conditional warranty.

They don't list the conditions; if you have to ship it back to the States for repair, you might as well just buy there in the first place.

It also says "Limited stock otherwise 8-10 weeks"; so it could be you're paying a $350 premium just have have them drop-ship the thing to your house.

        • +2

Living Edge are Authorised reseller,so the Herman Miller warranty stands, conditions here:

          http://www.hermanmiller.com/content/dam/hermanmiller/documen…

Our warranty covers everything—including electrical components,
casters, pneumatic cylinders, tilts, and all moving mechanisms.
It recognizes the changing nature of work and the need for products
that can stand up to continuous use.
And it means that when warranty work is performed in the U.S. and
Canada, Herman Miller foots the bill.

You are of course also covered by the normal Australia Consumer Law (ACL).

        • I got lucky and bought my great-condition Aeron off ebay for $294. :)

It's been a frontpage deal every single time it has been available at this price in the past.

When it comes to posture and good back, I would even pay more for this chair. The chair is that good.

But seems like it's out of stock already…

    • +3

If you have to ask, then its not for you. Move on nothing for you to see here.

  • +2

Sorry deal is on until end of January, just updated. Online shop is not working, but just give them a call

    • +2

Are you a rep, Benji? You seem to know more than is on their website, and be able to contact them out of business hours.

      • +3

Not rep. Just been holding out for one since October. I called them earlier today. The 12 year warranty is on the webpage

  • +3

I remember seeing Costco selling Herman Miller Chairs…this was a while ago

  • +1

    I wish I had a Herman Miller chair…dream on

  • +1

Dont forget to also pick up a very reasonably priced matching swag desk
    http://livingedge.com.au/shop/219-nelson-swag-leg-desk.html

    • +3

lol that desk is a joke. who in the heck buys such a thing? I mean… $1000 for a chair ok… but $3300 for a very simple desk? Seems they are the Apple of furniture. I love the slogan on a storage unit - "Beautiful outside, Storage inside" Ummm…ok, thank you for informing me that it can store things…

  • -3

990 dollars for a chair I don't get to actually sit on it to check if it's comfortable enough before I buy it? No thank you

    • Thank you for your opinion

    • +4

Don't argue with the OzBargain crowd. This is one of those niche inside "joke" deals which will be respected or you will be whipped by the OzB faithful.

    • +2

If there is a store close by you could always go in and try them.

A good bed costs $3000+ so it is reasonable that a good chair can cost $990.

    • +5

$1m for a Bugatti and you don't get to test drive it either.

    • +2

So.. go try it. They have stores, you know?

  • +1

    Lol

  • Are these flat packed or pre assembled? If not does anyone have an idea on delivery (if they do offer that service). Don't think this chair would fit in my sedan if it's pre-assembled.

    • Mostly pre-assembled

    • I'm pretty sure if you can afford $990 for a desk chair you can afford to hire a Bunnings ute for 25 bucks….

      • Isn't that what the Bunnings courtesy trailer is for?

    • i bought one and it easily fitted into the back seat of a subaru sedan, got rid of the box at the shop. It could also fit in the front passenger seat footwell if needed

    • i bought one and it easily fitted into the back seat of a subaru sedan, got rid of the box at the shop. It could also fit in the front passenger seat footwell if needed

      • +4

but why did you have to make two trips?

        • +5

sorry there was an echo in the room that I was typing, its fixed now

    • It's entirely pre-assembled and comes in a box. Might seem crazy, but it saves the frustration of having to assemble it like those el-chepo officeworks/kmart chairs.

      • Lol frustration? I find it fun putting stuff together

  • +6

I had a Herman Miller Aeron chair for 6 years at my last job. It was awesome and I really missed it when I left. Unfortunately, I could not afford one when starting my own business. But I found something fairly close.

    http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/53368/20337/image.jpg

It was $260 at Costco, and I think it is 80% as good as the Herman for 25% of the price.

Just another option for people. Though if you have the money, the Herman is a great chair. Both are worth it for you backs sake.

    • +1

I own an Aeron chair. I was in Costco a couple of days ago and tested the same chair, and would have bought it if I didn't have the Aeron.

Might buy it for the future missus.

      • +22

current missus can sit on the floor

    • Thanks I was interested in this chair but forgot the name to google it

  • +11

Just a tip for the virgin Aeron owners/users, as you know they come in A, B and C sizes, its all relative to the width of the base I believe, but make sure when you collect the chair, put your fingers at the top back of the hair, underneath it, there are these imprinted dots, each dots there is, represent the size, so one dot is size A, two dots size B and three dots is size C.

  • +3

Great Find OP! I'm due to replace my computer chair which I bought 10 years ago for $ 80 so I'm considering to buy something like this. Does anyone know if it's really $ 990 better than Officework chair? Or is it better to buy a $ 150 OW chair and replace it every 5 years? Hmmm decision decision…

    • In the exact same boat as you… was thinking of getting this: http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Furniture/Chai…

or should I grab the Costco one (seems to be high recommendations for it)

      or the Herman Miller…

      • Bought the costco one! seems comfortable (adjustable) and good quality build :)

    • +1

I used to buy an Officeworks chair every year of so before finally biting the bullet with the aluminium frame version of this one. It's well worth it.

Having a chair fall-appart on you is very frustrating!

    • Same story. I have been using a 50$ Officeworks chair waiting for a really good chair for the last 7 years. I've decided to bite the bullet this time.

  • A lot of new people might think spending 1k on a chair is crazy, and that's what i initially thought too.

But after countless Officeworks chairs breaking down after a year or two, I finally went out and brought this Herman Miller Aeron Chair.

Two years owner of it so far, and not a day of regret, no wear and tear on any part.

My ass and back doesn't hurt after extended periods of sitting down.

So if you want something comfy with 12 years warranty, and can afford it, you should know what to do :D

    • +5

I have had three Officeworks chairs for over 15 years now. None broken. All functioning as chairs, much like the day I bought them.

But I do agree, this chair looks nice, and has some functional elements. I would be happy to pay $250 for it. $1k on a chair is not a bargain. The price has gone from moderately insane to mildly insane.

I don't live too far from the local Living Edge store. I have been waiting for them to go broke for a couple of years now. But I suppose as long as economy is perceived to be strong, and cheap credit is available, and jobs apparently secure and well paying, this store will survive.

      • and thus was the early 21st century

      • Each to their own but for any longterm duration of sitting this chair is essential especially for those people with back issues. Plus it has the 12 year guarantee too. I've spent a lot on Officeworks chairs only to be severely disappointed as they show signs of wear/loss of comfort after a mere 6-12 months - perhaps its a luck of the draw

No complaints since I purchased this the last time it was on sale from LivingEdge for the same price. If people are happy enough to buy iPhones at top dollar then they should have no qualms about a quality chair

        • Lol, i think iphone owners will consider if the chair has an Apple logo on it.

        • +3

I think the iChair only comes in white. I am waiting for the Android chair that allows you to adjust the height.

        • Actually the iChair also comes in gold, but it's on back order until 2015
