Focal Celestee Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones $650 & Free Shipping @ Addicted to Audio

150

Lowest price I've seen on the Focal Celestee headphones and it's only slightly higher than the Elegia were selling for here in Australia at EOL.

  • Very tempting! I wonder if they're clearing out the Celestee to push people towards the Bathys.

Over the last year, I've also found myself reaching for IEMs (7Hz Timeless) over my headphones (currently an Elear and an LCD-2). I find the IEMs more involving and enjoyable, while surprisingly being nearly as expansive as the full sized headphones.

Also interesting that they have the Elegia listed as a pre-order for January 2023 @ $499?. I wonder if its a mistake, or whether they're producing them again as an entry point into the line up, especially seeing as there was a flurry of interest in the Elegia just as they were discontinuing it.

    • It's strange coz the same thing happened to the clears which seemed to be coz there was loads of excess stock that needed to go in order to make way for clear MGs but there doesnt seem to be any sign of a replacement model for celestees/elegia to justify such a steep discount. Both are a few years old now though so its possible there's something on the horizon - either way though this is too good a deal to pass up.

      • Which is too good a deal to pass up ? The celestee or the Elegia ?

        • I think the Celestee is better but don't buy it for the sound. You might need eq for it to sound good but that Is easy. I would buy it for comfort.

          • @HaydosK: I have a set of clears (same design basically as the Celestee). They aren't an overly comfortable headphone being that they are heavy and the headband while being well padded are skinny putting a pressure point on the top of your head.
at $650 if you're not buying the celestee for sound quality than why??

            • @jake93s: I have heard of them being heavy but they can be heavy and comfortable at the same time.

              • @HaydosK: as per my previous comment. I stated it was the pressure the thin headband places upon the top of your head, and the pressure point it creates there. I love my clears. but they aren't a particularly comfortable headphone.

both really but celestee especially. I really liked the sound when I demo'd it but yeah everyone's different when it comes to audio. Usually people seem to complain about poor sound staging but i really liked it in a different sort of way. Its extremely technically capable so if theres aspects of the tuning you dont like then eq will iron those out.

        • Do not buy either. The male vocals on these headphones sound awful and they have very poor abilities to instruments around the listener and sounds very congested for its price.

There's a few other Focals on sale too including the OG Clear's for $999 which matches their Black Friday sales: https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/collections/focal-headphone-s…

Very tempted to get the Radiance.

  • Focal support sucks, from experience, it took me 1.5 years to get a replacement driver for car Utopia No.7 which was broken out of the box (the magnet fell down when I unboxed the midbass). Be careful when you invest in high-end products like these. So many models, and I am confused about where to start if I ever wish to.

    • I think thats a good reason to buy from a2a. They are the official shop in Australia and they could probably do that for you. I haven't seen much about a2a being bad.

    • Yeah plus 1 from me for A2A as well. I had to RMA focal clears through them and it was very easy, especially if you have a store nearby.

      • I bought HD800 from a2a and they sent my a damaged box. I had to trouble a friend to do RMA on my behalf as I was out of country. But why would they send me damaged box? Outer box was fine.

  • Ok, I have an Elex and quite a few open backs.

Closed back I only have Sony MDR-Z7, Denon AH-D5200, Dan Clark Aeon Closed X. Should I cop these?

What gap are you trying to fill? Do these options fill that gap?

      • +3

I'm gonna be completely honest - I have nfi, I don't look at graphs and all that, I don't even know what gaps I have - I just like buying cool shit. I read the description and some of the comments above and I'm gonna buy because they look pretty.

+1, 100% on board with your logic, I'm guilty of the same too often.

    • Don't. You will be disappointed.

These sound awful most especially on songs with male vocals. Way too thin for anything to be enjoyable.

I would forgive that if this headphone was $60, not $600

For anyone going to demo these, test the track One More Time, One more Chance by Yamazaki masayoshi on these then ask for the hifiman ananda and you can clearly hear the difference.

    • That's what I was afraid of. I remember demoing the Elegia and finding it really anaemic and thin, which is a shame because I enjoy the sound signature of their open backs quite a lot. Decided not to pull the trigger until I get a chance to demo them.
