Is this a cny feast for birds?

    • +30

According to the Chinese zodiac it's a CNY feast for rabbits

  • +2

Can it be purchased with gift card?

    • +2

Don't think so. The checkout page only gives you the option to pay by Visa, Mastercard or AMEX.

      • +1

Wonder if we can purchase in store with gift card

  • +23

A Swedish furniture store offering a Chinese New Year banquet…

    Why?

    • +29

Because there's a market for it in Australia (which is great).

      • +8

        Name doesn't check out

      • +48

Are we having Lap Cheong sizzle from Bunnings ?

        • +22

          that would be great actually.

well, once we can decide whether the fried shallots go on top or below…

        • +5

You're better using a ngoh hiang sizzle in a white bao bun with some siracha and hoisin.

        • Lap cheong with the sticky rice "bun" that I had in Taipei

          • +1

@Serapis: Bunnings with 'Big sausage wrapped little sausage'.

    • +1

Hoping the whole family will spend $$$ after the feast.

    • +4

      Why not?

    • Probably made in China? Idk

      • +1

        I'd fuggin hope so

    • $$$ blind money.

Some people think ANY product from established brand = good value received from money spent.

lunar new year is celebrated in places other than China

        • +3

It’s doesn’t change the fact that it is Chinese New Year, originated from China and is celebrated based on Chinese traditional calendar used by people there to guide their living , farming activities for hundreds of years from old time. (Yes it is not the same as lunar calendar).People who like the culture are welcome to celebrate it in these globalized world, but it doesn’t change the history of the culture.

          • +6

@onlinereg33: TIL, as a Chinese diaspora, i'm only celebrating CNY because i'm welcomed to celebrate this PRC holiday event in "these globalised world", not because it is MY culture.

          • +1

@onlinereg33: I don't think Ikea putting on a CNY event changes the history or culture of it

          • +1

@onlinereg33: Point to all the people who said anything different

Oh wait, this is just another one of those fantasy arguments nobody is having

      • +2

It's actually not, only about 20% of their products are made in China.

    • -3

      Cultural appropriation.

  • +19

will the meals arrive deconstructed for you to re-construct with vague pictorial instructions?

    • +5

      Comes raw. You cook yourself.

“No, it’s all those snowflakes over there who are triggered by everything, not me

  • +1

Is $25 for feeding the whole family?

    • +2

only if your family consists of 1 adult and one or more kids under the age of 5

  • +11

    This is quite odd.

  • +4

I will never understand this. Kudos to those that do.

    • +14

$25 for ikea members, free to join.

$50 AYCE is literally double the price lol

I've been to one of these ikea dining experience and I really enjoyed it. Food was good, and I remember being really full afterwards.

      • -8

$25 to eat grass and not even AYCE

$50 to eat meat + AYCE

Pretty obvious that IKEA is earning huge profit margins on this, honestly this is a rip off (opposite of a deal and should be removed)

        • +6

$25 to eat grass and not even AYCE

Did you even read the description?

          Entrée
Tasting plate: Pork & chive dumpling, chicken Siu Mei, and vegetable spring roll served with dipping sauces

          Main course
Combination hot pot: Salt & pepper tofu served with shallots, fresh chili and fried onions + Cantonese-style chicken wings

They even have a vegetarian option, which is huge thumbs up in my book.

        • +9

Should have gone to specsavers first

        • +10

Nice supporting OzBargainers with only neg votes and 1 upvote

We (the community) will be happily to remove your neg on this deal too

For $25, idm having to experience it at IKEA, thus the deal should stay

        • +4

honestly this is a rip off (opposite of a deal and should be removed)

Says the person who has literally not contributed a single deal to OzBargain.

Don't worry your neg will be removed instead soon.

    • +2

So what, $50 worth of kfc can feed a whole family and 50$ in ten 5$ domino value range pizzas can feed 10 people.

Not fair to compare AYCE to normal dining.

  • Good for tinder match

  • +2

Cantonese-style chicken wings. I had been in Cantonese for nearly 30 years. Actually I don't know what Cantonese-style chicken wings is and even what it tasted like.

    • +1

Probs honey soy. And 'Cantonese' is either the language (n.), or used as an adjective to describe something from Canton province, now better known as Guangdong.

    • I'm pretty curious now what this actually means too. Deep Fried? Soy? Pan fried? Poached? Stewed?

  • +2

The image shows Swedish meatballs being eaten - low effort marketing

    • Well spotted. Had to zoom to see the mash and peas and lingonberry jam.

    • +2

they might be the plant based ballz

  • Nice meal. Love macha

  • +1

Did this once. The lines were so long and they could not keep up. Ended up leaving and emailed for a refund which they honoured as they were well aware of the chaos.

  • There is no mention of the date and time anywhere. Is this one day only event?

  • +3

Some people go eat lobster on new year, some people go eat steak for new year… and some people go to IKEA

  • -2

    What, no horse meatballs?

    • The Sweds might be more inclined towards reindeer meat.

  • Are the portions singular or big enough for 2?

  • +3

IKEA's boxing day sale is a joke this year.
    No decent bargain at all.
In previous years, it was easy to find something 50% off and worth to buy.
This year, I just walked out with empty hands. Such a waste of time!
Price for many items has also gone up significantly.
Towels from $5 to $8, block out curtains from $15 to $19, cork pot stand from $4 to $7, Clothes rack from $10 to $15.

    Not to mention their restaurant.
I waited 15mins in the line just to find out there was No fish, No Chips, No pasta, No rice, No cakes and No Jelly (for kids menu)
only mash potato and meat/veg balls available
    and it was only 3pm.

They didn't even tell me there was no jelly left at the food serving counter.
I only find that out by myself when I can find it nowhere.
The cashier gave me no option but only to replace the jelly with a bottle water, where tap water is free!
When I asked may I pay the price difference for orange juice or coffee instead.
They simply say NO and gave me a face: "You've collected your food anyway, you've no choice, just shut up, pay and get your bottled water."
Such a below standard customer service!
If my kid wasn't hungry after waiting for so long, I would have left the food at the cashier and just walked out of IKEA!

glad you can make it to this year's lunar new year dining event.

    • +2

Found the guy who only just learned that inflation is a thing

    • +1

they can't force you to pay for anything you don't feel comfortable with paying, I'd just dump the food and go downstairs for the hotdog for the kiddo.

  • +2

$30 for low end Chinese food?
Why dont just eat all you can eat for $20 or less with more food and better?

    • +6

$20 all you can eat? where?

      • Havent been all you can eat for long time but just couple years ago most places are $12-$15,so even price increase these years should have plenty under $20

        • +4

Please provide an example of an all you can eat $20 place, especially for Lunar New Year. I am legitimately interested.
