  • Damn. I didn't see this. I ended up buying the Breville LRC480WHT the Smart Rice Box for $93 (after $50 off), so I hope this is just as good. Hopefully eBay doesn't can the orders

  • Thanks OP, bought one.

Great rice cooker. We've had it for a few years and it just works.

    • How long is the cooking cycle on this? I have a Xiaomi rice cooker and it takes an hour.

      • +2

Much less than an hour. I would say 20 min or so, if not less.

      • I bought the aldi rice cooker $59 and it takes 40 minutes. Cooks perfect rice every time though.

There is a fast cook button but I haven't tried that yet. Probably won't as 40 minutes for perfect rice is fine for me. 1hr is too long though.

      • Mine's really quick on the quick setting and really slow on the regular setting, especially with 3-4 cups of rice… Although can't taste the difference between the two settings so always just hit quick cook

Well done op a great first post

    Can't add to cart?

    • same, probs oos

  • Looks like expired or OOS

Bought a used rice cooker of this model for 10 bucks!

The rice that comes out from this rice cooker is better than restaurant's.

The average price for used rice cooker of this model is $50 - $60 on Facebook market place, so at this price point, it's definitely a steal.

    • -2

I personally don't buy used kitchen items 😬

      • agreed downvotes are stupid

        • -2

I don't care if people downvote me 😂. It means nothing.

The fact someone made effort to downvote my comment is actually pathetic in itself.

      • +1

It's good. I just take it apart and clean it well.

  • Managed to get one but appears to be OOS now. Great deal, thanks OP

  • Thanks for the deal, i ordered this then asked to cancel a different one i ordered a few minutes before haha.

How is 5 cups uncooked rice good for a couple/small family. I would think that's a huge amount?

    • +2

We have this one, you can cook with half or one cup of rice.

      • I usually do one minimum on the stovetop, but still wondering how 5 cups is considered a small amount?

        • +1

The idea is you do it in the morning and eat it across the day.

      • +1

Thanks for confirming 1 cup benny

    • +1

Yeh 2 cups for small family
5 cups for a small party
Add a spoonful of coconut oil for a nice aroma

    • +1

      It's not exactly 5 cups

The gō or cup is a traditional Japanese unit for measuring rice.

1 gō is 180ml or about 150g or rice, which is one serving.

      • So this only does 900g uncooked rice?

        • It does 5 gō or 900ml of uncooked rice.

That's about 750 grams of rice. But as rice varies in volume it might be more or less than 750g.

It's not 900 grams, you took the volume (180ml) multiplied it by 5 and then took that as the weight (that only works for water)

    • +3

Yeah, and waste your time tending to the pot & setting timers for a result that you couldn't tell apart from a rice cooker

      • -8

Big difference manually cooked and made in rice cooker 👍🏻

Effort is worth it if you value your taste buds, only extra few minutes compared to rice cooker

    • +5

I disagree, it depends on the rice cooker. Japanese mastered rice cookers decades ago. If it’s designed for the Japanese market, it will be amazing.

It also depends on the type of rice you use. Some people think rice is rice, but it’s not true.

    • Have used the stove pressure cooker, so that works :)

Or if you spend another $50~ and get the Philips pressure cooker ;)

Better than Kmart's rice cooker? Sure. Better than this rice cooker? Not a chance.

The best Asian restaurants do not use stoves to cook their rice because rice cookers, with their advanced technology, can produce so much better rice. Even sushi chefs use rice cooker instead of pot.

Sure. Better than this rice cooker? Not a chance.

23+ years of cooking rice on stove, every 1 to 2 days 👍🏻.
        Never touched a rice cooker.
Takes literally 8 to 10 min to cook if you presoak

The best Asian restaurants do not use stoves to cook their rice because rice cookers, with their advanced technology, can produce so much better rice.

They use it because its convenient
The best middle eastern restaurants cook rice manually. And everyone talks how nice the food is there 👍🏻

Good for you, I bet your '98 Daihatsu Charade is also doing fantastically given how it can drive to BBC Hardware and back without fault. Why would you want a rice cooker or a new car?

Anyway, we get it. You can cook rice on the stove (who can't?). You do you.

There are things in life which some can do without (think; food processors, blenders, air fryers), that doesn't mean those items are worthless. It's just innovation, some embrace it, some don't (you). So be happy with your rice and let others buy what they want to buy.

Middle eastern rice is usually infused with spices and other things, so your best bet is to cook it on a stovetop. For those that want regular ol' fluffy rice with no hassle, a rice cooker will be your friend.

            • +7

@easternculture: It's not lazy to use a rice cooker… What on earth are you talking about?

There are far more things on OzBargain to call people out on for being lazy, but a rice cooker?

As for middle easterners eating rice, note the word "usually" in my post. Anyway, give the people a break. Rice cookers are a staple in many households, they shouldn't feel ashamed or feel like they are lazy for using one.

Also, nobody is attacking you for cooking rice on a stove. As I said, you do what you want. I'm not judging you for that. I do it too. But don't put down people who want to use a rice cooker.

            • +3

@easternculture: Judging by the negs you are getting the majority disagree with your opinion.

        • +3

They use it because its convenient

These are sushi chefs! They are the king of inconvenience. It takes them a year to learn how to wash rice before they are allowed to touch the fish. The fact that they cook their rice in a rice cooker shows that it is perfect.

          Never touched a rice cooker.

You should try it. I used to believe the same thing and cook rice on my induction stove. As a south-east Asian, cooking rice in a pot is quite foreign to my culture, as rice cookers are a household staple. The rice turned out well, and we enjoyed it. The induction stove then broke due to a power outage. I then purchased a new induction stove but it has different settings. It ruined my rice cooking method. I spent two months adjusting the setting before giving up and purchasing Zojirushi. The rice cooker has changed my life.

I suddenly understand why Asian restaurant food is better. They give better rice! The use: Zojirushi, Tiger, Cuckoo, or Tatung. Perfect rice greatly improves the dish.

It also gave me a rice cooker obsession. I currently own six rice cookers, the majority of which I bought used. They're excellent!

I have no doubt that your stove top cooking method can produce decent rice, but perfect rice makes the meal so much better. It's not laziness since I believe it's nearly impossible to create rice of the same quality as the rice produced by these fancy rice cookers.

I've also had this for a few years and the non-stick has started to come off, anyone bought a replacement bowl?

    • Us too. I suppose that this deal might be the cheapest way to get a replacement bowl.

      • I think i was quoted around this much just for the bowl so yeah possibly, just a waste

  • We have had this for 10 years and it is still going strong.

    • what's your cleaning method? others have said the non-stick comes off after a while

Missed this, but got the Breville one for $68
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/153766943624

It's still available, incase anyone wants to get this one.

    • This item does not post to me?

  • Good cooker. But it doesnt have a water storage container. So everytime you cook you have to dry up the water.

  • Has anyones item shipped yet?
