Bought this in the last deal special.
Watch is great quality, some quality control is required to make it a little better but overall amazing for the price.
It is a heavy watch, so if you don't like heavy watches, I wouldn't recommend (I have a GA-2100 and the weight difference is a bit lol). Other than that, great watch.

    • +2

You're comparing a stainless steel watch to a resin G-Shock, lol.
I wear the Steeldive the most out of all my watches & don't even notice it on my wrist.

      • Okay, I have a Seiko 5 Green Dial and the weight difference is still huge.
The point I'm making is that it's a heavy watch. Just so people can know. Don't shoot the messenger dude.
I did also say that it is a great watch and I do wear mine all the time, I have a few watches so I like to rotate between them.

bold statement from a watchnerd. kinda want now

Is The Steeldive 1970 The Best Seiko 6105 Homage

Fancy way to describe reverse engineering and IP theft.

    • -2

Everybody kind of does it. For example "Tudor is Officially A Rolex Homage Brand."

      • +7

Hans Wilsdorf is the founder of both Rolex and Tudor brands and Hans Wilsdorf foundation still owns both brands, so no, it's not the same.

        • -3

I know he is… so you mean there are times when homages are ok… if the owner is the same… what other times are they ok? As I am sure I can give you an example of whatever you say of big brands making a "homage" to something else. Heck, Rolex has watches that it calls homages too. I know of watches that are homages from most of the big watch creators.

What happens if the owner sells the Tudor brand? are all of their watches not ok then? How about the old ones?

I am thinking these are not fakes… they do not try to fool anybody into that they are something they are not. Sometimes they are arguably better than the original (sapphire crystal is an improvement), so let people just enjoy them. It will probably make your expensive watches even more valuable :) as more people get into watches.

          • -1

No, not going to condone reverse engineering and IP theft…period. It undermines true innovation and creativity.

            • -1

@dealhunter52: Ok, so no arguments, just a cherry-picked response… I can recognize a watch Taliban when I see it. I will let you fume regarding the homages then…

              • +3

                @misu p:

                watch Taliban

Not to be confused with the Taliban Watch, the Casio F-91W.

              • @misu p: There's Watch Azov too

    • -2

Reverse engineering what? It's a genuine Seiko movement in a case that any idiot could have designed in 10 minutes using tinkercad. TBH I think it's strange how much people will pay for a band name watch. The real design is the movement, and that is a genuine Seiko part based on decades old designs.

      • +1

Agree with you, but small correction, NH35 movement is only a decade old (released in 2011) not decades old.

      • This argument is ridiculous. A lack of effort in reproducing a thing has zero influence on the level of IP infringement of that thing.

Go and recreate a Nike swoosh in Illustrator/Photoshop and start selling merch and see how that argument plays out, because any idiot could do that in 10 minutes also.

  • Any tips on best in person colour choice? I'm tempted by the blue.

    • +6

Username checks out. I bought the blue but it was a bit too much having both the dial & bezel the same colour, so I bought a black & swapped over the guts.

      • +1

        Haha thanks.

      • +1

That is black on blue looks very good. Should be on offer by Steeldive.

    • +2

I bought the black one. Happy to send you some pics once I get home. I have another watch in the Green Dial Seiko 5 and I have a PRX in blue but don't have a black one. I think Blue would look nice.
Let me know if you need me to send you some pics, happy too but won't be until maybe 6pm Melb time.

      • +1

thanks for offer, i went with blue.

        • Too easy bro. I'm sure you'll love it.

    • +1

I have the blue one and it looks great. Not over the top at all and easy to read.

  • +1

There is also a banner saying "New User Bonus" which makes it AU$110.94 or $75.60 in USD. No code, so I guess you just need to create a new account.

  • Wow that is very cheap. I might buy one just to use for the movement + strap

  • +1

Looks like it was allergic to a bee sting.

  • +1

    green is nice!

  • Bought it in the last deal. Unbelievable watch for the price. Bought it with the waffle strap, which is a beautiful strap - but would really like to get a decent stainless steel bracelet.

Anyone know of any good aftermarket ones for this watch? My understanding the stock bracelet was ok-but-not-that-great and that's why I went with the black waffle.

    • +4

The bracelet now comes with the upgraded milled clasp buckle (Since 10/11/22) so you're probably better off just buying another one, taking the bracelet off & selling it with a different strap.

      • Since November last year, but isn't this a clearance sale? Wouldn't they be clearing the old bracelets first?

While I have you WatchNerd, do you now if the water resistance is reliable or even accurate on these and the AliExpress 'homages' in general?
I've read and watched a load of reviews and the follow up comments on this and similar watches, but have yet to see anyone mention if they really can be used in water - I don't necessarily mean diving, just swimming, snorkelling, showering etc.

  • +1

    Nice watch!

  • +1

    It's a great watch.

  • Any recommendations for a diver with larger dial or overall size? I have a turtle Seiko but the dial feels small on the case.
There was something posted recently but dam I cannot find it!

  • +1

When the bronze one goes for this price I’ll buy it: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003142098156.html

  • +1

    This or Rolex Submariner?

    • Well, seeing the NSW Premier is under pressure about his Nazi sartorial allegiances, so should Rolex for supplying watch parts to Italy & Germany during WWII
Axis had the Brits shitting emselves with the timed explosive charges in Gibraltar & Malta IIRC

  • i have relatively small wrists and this looks chunky asf, can anyone comment on how it looks?

    • the lug to lug is 46.6mm

    • Short lug to lug length , female end links and a case that conforms to the wrist means it wears well even on smaller wrists.

  • Meh just get the real deal Seiko instead of this fake

    • +1

A Seiko under $500 is also going to be made in China, but without sapphire glass, and including the same issues of quality control.

      • Thats a great point!

      • -2

Get an A grade fake Rolex and be done then. A $500 Seiko is still within the realms of affordability anyway. $100+ is still a lot of money to spend on a non mainstream branded watch regardless of country of origin

        • +1

I would rather wear the watch in the OP than a fake Rolex of any 'quality'.
There's a big difference between $100 and $500. This watch offers quite a lot (on paper, at least (I don't own one)), for someone who may be able to justify $100 on a watch but not $500.

  • These are pretty amazing value for money over, even over normal Seiko Turtles. (Ceramic Bezel , Sapphire Crystal, Milled clasp)
I have a Seiko Turtle and they wear pretty much the same.
I received mine a few days ago.
They advise that the lug width is 20mm , but I found it to be 19.8mm with my calipers and found that 20mm straps won't fit in it. (20mm Nato's will fit in, but bend slightly)
As mentioned above, the metal strap now comes with a milled clasp.
It is pretty easy to remove some links with the little tool provided.
Might be worth adding the waffle strap, just so you can swap it out for a change.
I couldn't be bothered waiting, so I sliced 0.1mm either side of a rubber strap.

  • +1

Thanks watchnerd, always appreciate watch bargains. I'm interested in another steeldive https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004599657447.html?gatewa…
Do you know if they are all decent quality or any advice?

    • Not sure on that one, maybe look for some youtube reviews.

  • +1

Damn, I wanted this but I just bought a Seiko 5 Sports and the wife would probably not love me buying another.
Hows the bracelet? the one on the SRPD63 leaves a bit to be desired.

    • Pretty decent IMHO. Solid links and end links, and a milled clasp are great to see. Very little rattle and I find mine very comfortable.

  • +1

Can't go wrong for sub $120. Thanks Op!

  • If I try to purchase through Cashrewards the $3 off per $30 disappears?
Pretty much every Aliexpress promotion I’ve tried to use CW has removed some benefit.
    Any idea?

    • I didn't try it so thanks for the heads up, I will remove the Cashrewards link from the description.

      • I tested the winter coupons and this works for USD $5 off:
        WinterC5
It worked for me but in other posts some experienced quirks with those coupons.

        Came to USD: 75.96 shipped

FYI: if I didn’t write the code correctly, including capitalisation, it failed.

    • "If I try to purchase through Cashrewards the $3 off per $30 disappears?"

Good catch. I didn't think this was a problem until now. (I think I read in forums it happens with hotel booking sites when clicking through cashback)

I used to shop on Ali more often, but in the last 6 to 8 months realized that prices had gone up and coupons were non existent for most items.
I always click through Cashrewards though so that might be part of the reason I was getting higher prices overall. Basically stopped shopping on Ali because of that.

  • Is the water rating legit on these types of watches?

    • Probably not but more waterproof than everyone's diving ability here on OZB.

  • -3

Dear lord that's an ugly watch

      • Lol. I guess I just like the classic look of a Tissot Gentleman for example. Obviously a different price bracket, but orient have some cheaper versions. Each to their own

  • +2

Specs are great (hacking and sapphire), but ain't very attractive to me.

  • I bought mine for $105 when the AUD was much stronger against the USD. Watch out for the foreign vendor 10% gst.

  • I picked one of these up for about AU$110 in the last deal. It was DOA and I was fully refunded. I fixed the issue (some junk stuck in the hairspring) and it has been fine ever since. People complain about Seiko QC but this thing has a ton of axial play in the bezel and the coin edge has a few nasty tooling marks left in the stainless. These things aren't quite as refined as a genuine Seiko. That said for the price difference I've not felt the need to rush out and get the actual Willard reissue. It helped me work out that I prefer the turtle anyway.

  • +1

Great watches highly recommended, got one for about $100 in the past. Have never felt like I needed to spend on a real Willard for $800 or turtle etc.

Anyone tried the rubber waffle straps? I really like the stainless bracelet (upgraded the clasp to a higher quality one, but the new models have an upgraded one), but may use on a tuna).

    https://www.steeldives.com/en-au/collections/watch-straps-ac…

Pretty cheap for $11.44 plus ~$5 postage, cheaper than Ali and eBay (people selling the same thing for $26).

    • +1

I bought a Steeldive for a friend with the waffle strap & it felt like good quality compared to one I bought on Aliexpress for myself. My one is softer & tends to attract dust compared to the Steeldive.
Thanks for the link, I might buy one.

      • +1

Yeah surely the one from steeldive site is the same, think I'll get a Blue one to put on my Padi tuna - the one that comes with it is nice and comfortable and soft, but wouldn't mind a less bulky option. black would be good with the sd1970.. not too much risk for the price.

    • +1

I have the waffle strap(like I said in the last deal and finally found it) it feels pretty good for the price, I'll try and post a pic of the strap on this watch later if you want?

  • +2

Pulled the trigger on a Blue one, I'll be interested to see what it's like.

    • Do you like it?

  • +1

mine arrived today and love it so far thanks watchnerd
