NEVER fly with Jetstar. Flight cancelled in Tokyo and stuck for 24 hours. Jetstar provide ZERO help and ZERO compensation. !

    • That's awful. Any luck with travel insurance company ?

      • +1

I know right?! I bought the ticket thru Qantas and didn’t buy insurance. Learned a lesson from jetstar. Imagine all the hassles and time wasting to deal with insurance company even you got travel insurance.

Time to bring tiger back I reckon..need to kick Jetstar in the arse. Used to reliable.

          • +1

@life is suffering: Exactly. Should bring more competitors in the market. Cheaper fare for us and better servo after competition.

          • @life is suffering: Just as bad left me abandoned in Melbourne they cancelled my flight 3 days .

          • @life is suffering: Tiger was far worse if a flight got cancelled. People were stuck for days.
Though they did offer generous vouchers as well as refunds when the Bali service got cancelled.

Sounds like Jetstar is owned by Qantas. Hang on, they are. 😅

Don't think anyone wants to fly Jetstar

    • So true.

Perth to Sydney $189 Club Jetstar, $199 non-club

Is that it? I was expecting cheap flights to Bali…

simply cannot fly with this trash airline ever again. had my last 3 flights cancelled 30 mins before boarding in December completely ruining all of my travel plans

    • +2

I share your pain. Bought a flight on sale one year on advance. They cancelled two days out… Yet strangely more a Qantas flight was now in its place on the flight schedule :(

    • +6

I would never endorse Jetstar, and others shouldn't either in my opinion.
This is definitely not a deal as you'll later find out that your flights are delayed or tickets are canceled. You are just looking for trouble with Jetstar.

Perth to Sydney is the only perth route and it’s almost as much as Qantas

Timely now that Bonza got their flying license from CASA on Wednesday. Jetstar might be either trying to get customers back after the recent schemozzles of late (as per stories above), or locking in bookings before Bonza start selling tickets.

  • do you guys know if jetstar charge you more if you upgrade baggage after the initial booking?

    • It's slightly better value at the time of booking when you get the package with the seat choice and baggage. Otherwise, it's pretty similar even if you buy bags after the fact… just make sure you don't get weighed at the gates - they charged me $65 at the gates because i was 500g over the limit heh.

      • You couldn't have stuffed another 500g worth of stuff in your clothing?

Last time I looked at Jetsar's Friday/weekend sale my flights I looked up during the week had gotten more expensive.

  • +5

If you are considering this deal please factor in additional costs for delayed flights that can include hotel, food and transport. Yes travel insurance will reimburse the cost but you are losing time which you can not get back

  • +2

    Not worth the risk.

Trash airline get ready to get your flights cancelled with no compensation

Is there some way to check the reliability of a certain route? For example, if the Cairns to Tokyo or Melbourne to Hawaii is usually delayed, and if so, by how many hours?

  • It seems not much has changed. In December 2018 some people might be "lucky" enough to remember the JQ flight to SGN. From rough recollection it was scheduled to depart around 3pm on the Saturday. At 3pm it was moved to 7pm (given no cabin crew turned up 20 to 30 mins prior to prepare for boarding it started to become ominous). 7pm was moved to 9.30 or 10/11 which then became 2am. At some time between 2 and 3.30 am on the Sunday they cancelled the flight so pax had to leave the gate, go back through immigration and wait for the luggage and then go the Jetstar counter to wait to be allocated a hotel (if you lived more than 3 hours away) (It seemed everyone did). Some pax chose to stay in the airport (cue Tom Hanks in Terminal). Depending on luck, you could be at the airport hotel, or the city or beyond. Sunday comes…scheduled 10 am flight becomes 2pm and at 3.35 on the Sunday - 24 hours after original time - the plane departs. Pax clapping ensues. All goes well until we reach about 200 km before SGN and the captain then tells pax that b/c of a storm in SGN and heavy flooding, the flight will be directed to BKK. Arriving in BKK, on ground Jetstar staff (well 1 of 2 Jetstar and the rest working for a 3rd party) give pax wrong directions to clear immigration. Summing up, an 8 hr flight became 48 hours and some pax on 7-day honeymoons, or having connecting flights were all impacted. Because some had VN or VietJet flights, Jetstar had "no obligation" to help them. "Welcome to Tan Son Nhat Airport, HCM, Viet Nam".

    • lol shit go but does happen I guess

Flown with jetstar at least a dozen times and never had any issues.

    • +2

Certainly doesn't seem to be a popular opinion but agreed. Flown with them Syd-Mel & back numerous times a year (incl crazy busy times for F1 weekend) and never had an issue…

    • in the last 3 years?

    • Everyone is going to hate on whichever airline leaves them stranded , and refuse to ever fly them again. The only difference between Jetstar and a full service airline is Jetstar quite openly have a fly at your own risk policy attitude and prices to match. Most people realise that when they make the decision to save money.

I will be flying to Bali with JQ in March.

I bought the ticket in 2019, then the pandemic struck.

JQ gave me credit for the cancelled flight, which I used to buy this flight,

AirAsia X was restructured during the pandemic wiping out 98.5% of their debts,

    • We boarded our first (& last) AirAsia red eye flight to Singapore. Upgraded to Business 1A.
Boarded the flight, and someone was in our seats with the same ticket. Hosties chatted with the ground crew..who proceeded to give zero F's and close the doors.

We taxied out for takeoff with no seat. Never flew with them again.

Flew Jetstar over Christmas and back home, both flights had 4+ hour delays, seats have been shortened for legroom compared to other carriers, had to sit on an angle and second flight was so bumpy and slammed into the runway upon landing, might be cheap, but pay cheap, get cheap!

  • +4

I really don't understand people complaining specifically here about their bad experiences with Jetstar. You book a LCC carrier and accept that risk. Also delays and cancellations happen to every airline - last I checked (Nov 22 report) the on-time rating for all the airlines in Aus were not that far apart. You can argue that how they treat you when stuff goes wrong but realistically what do you expect from a budget airline.

Also sometimes it's completely out of an airlines control. Just some food for thought, did you know that just before Christmas, an Emirates flight had a mechanical for a flight out of Tokyo that saw them miss curfew by a few minutes at Narita. They sat the passengers on the plane for a few hours until about 2am then told them to disembark and sleep in sleeping bags in the terminal. Yes this is Emirates one of the premier airlines and they didn't even give their business class passengers a hotel room.
