64gb may as well buy the surface deal from last night………

Yeah 64GB is a bit of a joke these days. A lot of people will pick tablets etc for the larger screens so they can use them for watching media, games and graphic design, etc all of which use up space quickly, even just for the apps, let alone content.

      • Most people stream their media nowadays so don’t need storage for that. Gamers and graphic designers should obviously go for the upgrade though

        • +1

Many people do, but then a lot of people use them when travelling and streaming simply isn't an option. Whenever I'm travelling I'll load on a bunch of stuff so regardless of flight mode, no stable internet, excessively expensive internet, etc I'm all good.

If they added a memory card option it would be fine, but 64GB is about the same size as my smallest flash drive…

Given the cost difference is so small for storage, it's just Apple trying to get people to pay more than they should need to by upgrading.

        • +1

But apps continue to grow larger in size as more features and fixes are added. 64GB is probably not even the usable memory, they should really make 256GB the bare minimum.

Small screen for media consumption especially with letterboxing.

I use a 12.9" iPad pro for media consumption, but bought my wife a Lenovo IdeaPad duet 13.3" when it was on special and it's way better than my iPad due to the screen aspect ratio. Screen looks decent too

    • +2

The 12.9 inch iPad’s aspect ratio is quite different. This wouldn’t letterbox as much.

Theres a rumoured Apple product launch in the morning. Its very unlikely the iPad Mini will be updated (most likely Macbook Pros) but on the rare chance it is it may be worth waiting until you wake up if you're considering purchasing this (most Apple launches are around 3/4am Aus time).

        • Shut up and take my money.

      • +3

There are fangirls too, you know. I think the only way the iPad mini 6 could be improved is to use Face ID instead of Touch ID. Basically, I want an iPad mini Pro, using current parlance, I guess

        • +2

Mini led screen with 120hz would be the dream

  • +1

They are sma, bit great for reading/marking up documents, reading emails, etc. Not great for visual media consumption. Except If you're watching stuff for dialogue (talk shows, sitcoms, news, etc) it's handy.

  • +6

I own one and it’s a great iPad. Has many of the features of bigger more expensive iPads but in a smaller form factor. Perfect for using as a laptop substitute when travelling.

I would recommend 256gb storage unless you love the cloud or your money is tight (which is basically everyone here haha)

    • +6

+1. Love my iPad mini 6. Perfect for my needs which also includes media consumption

Sent from my iPad mini 6

Why not just use your phone?

    • +17

      Because I don’t want to

    • +2

One reason is it doesn’t support the pencil. Another is the screen is smaller.

    • +5

Spoken from someone whose just read the specs as opposed to seeing the visual difference.

I hate Apple and I want one of these for the size. Sick of giant Tablets.

No 128gb was such a dick move by Apple though. Basically forcing one to buy 256gb.

    • +1

I didn’t really mean to downvote you, it just won’t let me undo it. This is still enormous compared to a phone though.

  • Love my Mini 5 but my wife’s Mini 6 has horrible jelly scroll. She doesn’t see it, but I can’t not see it.

    • Thanks for telling me about Jelly scrolling. I've found this for those previously unaware of this:

      • +1

Jelly people made this a big deal. I don’t notice it tbh

        • U probably just lucky. I had to return mine. It literally made me headache

          • @ter: I see a small shift but I need to focus to notice it. Then again when I’m interacting with screens my eyes usually looks everywhere. I am a coder so is just one of those things that I am used to scan around wcreen when working

  • +1

Jelly scroll on ipad mini is like finding out password of ur wife’s phone….once u see it, u can’t undo

    • hunter2

      • Hey thats my password too!

        • You still only see stars, right?

  • what's the historically lowest price you have found?

  • iPad Air 2022 also on sale. Bought one. Thanks.

  • +2

    Great ipad, yes.
Pricing has crept up over the last 2 years.
729 for 64gb vs promo price of usd399 in US….What are they thinking?!

    • +1

iPad mini 6 was $499 in the US on release. That’s with no tax, so add 10% GST. Now convert to AUD, and it’s over A$800…

  • nice little iPad been using it since dec 2021 pretty good unit

  • +1

It's such an optimal size for certain use cases including travel and non-media applications e.g. shopping on the couch, looking up recipes in the kitchen. But I think paying a bit more to get the 256GB version is better value, especially from the Apple education store with discounted GCs.

    • yeah with 64GB, you'll need to carefully manage the storage.

  • Great for dji drone, I use iPad mini 4, made a custom mount from bunnings flat bar aluminum for $9. Mini 4 complains about high cpu usage when running DJI fly app so looking at upgrading to this.
Made our first YouTube video in Vanuatu shot with DJI mavic air 2 last month, got a lot to learn but was really fun.

    • I upgraded from my old iPad mini 4 to the 6

  • Will other stores (like JB or officeworks) be willing to price match this?

    • +1

Officeworks they should price beat. JB Hi-Fi will depend on who you get and their mood

    • +2

Just did a pricematch with Officeworks with delivery included

  • +3

I have a 64GB iPad Mini 6 and love it. Bought it + the pencil initially only to use as an on-the-go alternative to my bulky Wacom tablet. Now I use it almost as much as my phone. I've had no issues with storage as I'm always streaming over wifi and it's the perfect size to hold to watch media in bed or on one of those bath caddies. I'm also editing photos and short videos on it and still have 32GB left.
