      • Ok thank you!

      • I accidentally cancelled the ANZ card 2 days late and they fully refunded the annual fee with no pushy tactics to keep you. I guess it all depends on which customer service representative you get and how they woke up in the morning

        • Did you cancel after you receive your bonus points/cashback/etc.?

          • @foxes28: No I cancelled after a year with the card. I forgot to cancel in time and ANZ charged me for the second year. Luckily got it refunded.

            • @Ant234: That’s great but I think what the original comment asked was if it’s possible to apply this CC, meet the spending criteria, get all the bonuses and ask for pro-rated fee refund.

This was possible for NAB last year until they stopped doing it.

Your case is a different though.

      • -1

Foxes28 is talking through his hat, I got a pro-rata refund just by asking. Took a few months though.

        • Genuinely curious, was it after you get all the bonuses etc? Or was it second year fee like the guy above?

          • @foxes28: Around four or five months in after getting my pound of flesh, I spoke to a lovely Filipina who confirmed I'd get a prorata refund when I asked. The cheque arrived 2-3 months later, but the amount was the same as she confirmed on the call.

          • @foxes28: Same – refunded $425 even after getting $225 back and claiming the Qantas lounge passes. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12752622/redir

i got the annual fee pro rata'd in november, you just have to ask specifically, not sure if it works everytime but worked for me

  • This offer is limited to one credit card application per Qantas Frequent Flyer member

    What’s this mean???

    • Interesting.. create a new QFF account, get points and transfer to your real one..

    • Thats new.
Assuming its just so you cant take out multiple cards and link them to the same account.

The usual 12 month cooldown period would still apply.

  • +1

Considering terms says 'This offer is limited to one credit card application per Qantas Frequent Flyer member', will I get QFF points if I previously had this card few years back and use same QFF account when applying now for this credit card and spend $5k in 3 Months? If no, any workaround?

    • Yeah you'll get the bonus if you haven't had a card through them in the past 12 months.

  • It’s very confusing as the term states 12 months exclusion as well as the once only restriction. The once only restriction basically overrides 12 months exclusion

Thoughts on getting approved with 75k a year casual job, with 900+ credit score?

    • +3

What have you got to lose by applying?

      • +1

credit score, considering applying for my partner.

I have applied for 2x credit cards in last 6 months and dropped my score from 850 to 720 even though both were approved and paid in full every month. Now it only goes up 2 points per month

Hate to see what happens if you get declined

        • +1

I have applied for 2x credit cards in last 6 months and dropped my score from 850 to 720 even though both were approved and paid in full every month.

Yeah that sounds about right. My score is around 800 something and I find I lose a bit over 40 points when I apply for a card with a 15k limit.

I also applied for 2 cards within 6 months, but I found each time I close a card off it my score went back up by 40 points. I only have 1 active at any time.

  • I have this card from 10 months ago…was about to cycle anyway.

Does anyone have experience if wife applied this time… would they reject?

  • What's stopping people from signing up, meeting the 3 month spend requirement, get the points and cashback and then cancelling the card?

    • +5

Nothing. That’s what we do, churning cards to accumulate points for flight tickets (or GCs).

    • +2

Welcome to the club, don't forget to record dates in a spreadsheet

  • I have this exact card, met the spending req 4 months ago and still waiting for the FF points to be added. Called ANZ support twice but they couldn't do anything. Useless.

    • +1

Lodge a complaint, get a formal reference number. They will provide a formal response. Then escalate to AFCA if you still aren't happy. ANZ will fold and pay you points.

  • +2

I have this card currently. If you pay rent and you’re able to BPAY to DEFT, they accept Visa credit so you’ll contribute to the minimum spend and get 1 point per dollar

    • Does it incur surcharge?

  • +1

The amount of time / energy / paperwork / phone calls etc etc etc with ANZ simply is not worth time.

Even after meeting the criteria - they consistently take several weeks, months to get back to you - and even then, want more and more information.

Will not touch ANZ for any future product. Waste of time

  • Not bad. ANZ give us 160k though like last time!

  • I last cancelled on 13 Jan 2022, will that meet the 12 months or should I wait another month?

    • Apply

    • @pandawelch I have the same situation, next week will mark 12 months for me but not sure if i should just apply a day or two after the anniversary or wait until the start of the next month i.e 1st of Feb; i have some purchases i need to make which would go well on the new card so time is precious.

Please let me know how you get on or if you find out any more info in the meantime.

      • +1

        12 months is 12 months.
        NOT 12.5 mths, not 13mths.

As long as you know when you closed the card (from a credit reporting agency, a letter from the CC provider or it was in your calendar) you do not need to wait extra days or weeks before re-applying.

        • Thank you for your response. You seem confident in your statment. I called them a few days ago and got the date i cancelled the card so should be pretty solid on that front.

Will give it an extra 2 days to make sure it was processed ect and then give it a shot. Only thing i was concerned about is if they had a batched process to cleanup old accounts or something that ran every week or month.. idk but atm when i try to login to my old account it still recognizes my username and password but says my account is disabled; going to check after the date as well to see if there is any change in that behavior

          • +2

@410: ANZ always does that. If you plan on churning, open a Progress Saver account which is fee free, and that way you won't get disabled every time you close your credit card.

This has nothing to do with the 12mth exclusion.

  • I know the terms say government charges not counted, but I remember ANZ weren't picking them up last time I used it. Any one know for sure or have met minimum spend with council fees or land tax?

    • -1

Use beemit to pay for the council fees to make it eligible spend.

      • Is there a trick to this? Beemit wont allow me to use credit cards to pay or request money.

        • you can't pay/request money with a credit card, but you can use the Bpay function to use a credit card.

          • @bohn: Doesn't accept credit cards for Bpay for me, tried both council and the state revenue office bills. Could be biller specific. Thanks anyway.

        • Where is the error message? - does it relate to the message at the bottom of the beemit app which says "credit cards cant be used here" - note that if you scroll sideways - this message can be ignored!.

Or is it an error with the biller not accepting credit cards? (if so you can check what payment methods they accept here: https://bpay.com.au/BillerLookupResults).

For example SRO victoria landtax is: Cheque, Savings or Debit Card, Visa Credit Card, MasterCard Credit Card, Other Credit Cards

          • @JohnSy: After I select the card, it says I need to verify the payment which then brings up a box with ‘internal server error’.

            • @Altf4z: bpay bills are always biller specific.
but I have paid council rates and water rates recently with a credit card.

            • +1

@Altf4z: Yes, i have had that issue before, on both my wifes and my own beemit account - you need to send a message to tech support to fix that - it seems to be a very common fault. First time it was fixed in a couple of hours. For my wife it took a few days to fix.

              • @JohnSy: I have contacted them and will keep trying. Thank you for explaining all that.

                • @Altf4z: I also had the same issue again with my wifes new ANZ credit card a few days ago. We sent a message at the start of the week, and when we tried again to make a Beemit payment today it was fixed. From what I can see from my experience it seems to happen when you add new cards as payment methods. It has been happening for many months.

    • forget those - council fees !

I had the card - and paid two houses' council fees on the ANZ card.

Was advised that they weren't included - THIS was after the 3mth period - making enquires as to why the points weren't given.

Come up with some 'generic' term like govt charges - and this is what the pull

I've cancelled that card - HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO DESIRE ever to deal with ANZ EVER AGAIN

      • My council rates went through okay with Beem and ANZ card. It met the spend and got points.

        • Use beemit as an intermediary for council rate payments. All credit card companies tend to exclude council rates for minimum spend. This is not just ANZ!

          • @JohnSy: Agreed, common knowledge council rates are excluded however some banks don't pick up on it. Can anyone confirm that beemit does actually work with ANZ and received the points? Thanks

            • @Brick50: Yes I can confirm beemit works with ANZ receiving points.

          • @JohnSy: Amex is OK with gov charges

      • also Sydney Water is considered as Gov charges

  • I don't understand why ANZ shows this ad to me in my ANZ online banking given I already have a card with them making me ineligible for the offer.

  • When does the cash back get credited? Next statement following spend?

    • On my last card ANZ FF Black it was 2 weeks after the annual fee was debited.

  • What's the consensus with council fees? Won't contribute to minimum spend if paid directly but can pay through beemit?
I believe I can pay directly with no fees, does beemit charge a fee?

    Thanks

    • my council charges a fee on all card payments and anz marked it as government (i just paid directly this week but im sure abt beemit

    • +1

For any charges that's possibly considered 'government', pay using Zip. Then use your credit card to pay off Zip. Problem solved :D

    • i use beemit for council fees - there is not beemit fee. There is a $2000 max transfer limit for beemit bpay bill payments, but you can make multiple beemit payments on the same day so split the bill if necessary.

      • Hi John, do you know for sure that it counts towards the minimum spend? I am hoping it does but haven't seen anyone confirm that they got the points based on it

  • One of the worst companies to deal with. Their credit card processing office is in India and very hard to deal with!. I was told after I applied that they do not consider short stay property income even when ITR says so. I asked them why this was no disclosed - I was told their website wasn't updated. So I would suggest members in similar circumstances to consider this before applying.

    • +2

Agreed, finally approved a few days ago after 3 weeks of hassles. Sent them about 60 pay slips/income statements and even bank statements and they kept asking for more info! But finally approved

  • Does anyone know if you cancel this credit card, and if there are refunds going back to the card later on, will the refund still comes through which I can then request ANZ to transfer to another bank account?

I booked hotels with this card for May, my annual fee is going to be charged in April so thinking of cancelling this card. But just in case if I want to cancel anyhotel booking and refunded back to the card, will there be any issue?

    • It will go back to ANZ and you have to call up and tell them. They will then process to bank account of your choice.

So no issue - but it can be a hassle/inconvenience.

  • +1

What exactly does ANZ mean by eligible purchases?

    https://www.anz.com.au/content/dam/anzcomau/documents/pdf/an…

I looked through the T&Cs above, and couldn't find which purchases would be considered ineligible under their Rewards program.

    • I spent an hour trying to figure it out but this information is nowhere to be found :(((

  • What are the eligible purchases to earn credits for spending? The booklet mentions something about Bonus Partners and Qantas services but I can't find what are the Bonus Partners anywhere… Otherwise seems like the best deal out there

  • Anyone got their points yet? How long after eligible spend do you receive them?

      • Nice! when did you get your account? mine has been open a few weeks

  • Applied on last Friday and got approved on Monday, card on the way now.. Hope they honour the qantas ponints as per offer after meeting spend criteria

  • well just found out you cant setup direct debit for repayment online or over the phone. you have to print out the form and go to a store to set it up. very helpful

    • I know it's been 2 weeks but it says you can send the form in via mail

  • +3

For anyone interested, the Beemit Bpay loophole still works on this card. I remitted a test payment to the ATO and it was classified as normal spend.

So anyone expecting capital gains tax this year can pre-pay now, or just make a payment now and you'll get a refund when you lodge in July/August.

Classified as ""Professional Services (Not Elsewhere Classified)".

You can of course just pay whatever government bills through bpay also to avoid spend getting excluded due to being classified as Government charges.

  • I applied on 2/3, got phonecall on 6/3, received SMS saying approved 9/3 5pm, but received email asking visa and passport (again) 10pm.
Not sure if I can get the card or not.

    • Got the welcome booklet and the letter, however there was no card in it.
Could anyone advise if you received the card separately?

      • Card received next day

  • Would I still be eligible for the bonus points if I currently hold a ANZ rewards card?

    • I believe so as that's a separate card that doesn't give you qantas points: Offer not available where you currently hold an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, or have closed, or qualified for bonus Qantas Points or a credit back on, any of those ANZ Frequent Flyer credit cards within the previous 12 months.

  • Is there a better offer if youre already an ANZ customer?

  • Applied as part of moving my loan to ANZ and got rejected. Apparently they won't approve another application to a different card like the platinum and I need to wait a minimum of 3 months but then also aren't able to say if I'd qualify for that.

  • First transaction 23FEB
    Met Spend 23MAR
    2nd statement 04APR - no bonus points

Hopefully paid out by mid MAY

Anyone had any luck getting paid out yet?

  • +2

    14 March applied
    21 March approved
11 April Bonus points hit my account + Rebate

Will try to get pro-rata refund tomorrow.

    • How did you go re a pro-rata refund?

      • +4

They did not allow pro-rata refund

  • -4
  • Does anyone know how long it takes for the bonus cashback and bonus reward points to be awarded after meeting the minimum spend criteria?
I have reached the qualifying spend amount middle of last month, and in less than 3 months. (*)
So, do I have to wait for the 3-month period from account opening to be over?

(*) Rewards Black. Current Base Points = 10,100

  • Been over a week since I applied and still no approval.

    • Better to give them a call. Happened with my application last time. Need to call them and they will pullup the file, get it escalate if you mention you need one within few weeks to travel. Mine got get approve within an hour after the call.

      • Thanks for the heads up, they did it on the spot.

  • Got to give ANZ some credits for trying reach out to you about abnormalities in your application.

After applied for this deal few days ago, ANZ called up and ask about a block on the credit file. I was a bit surprise when heard about it. After digging around i found out that i put a block on my credit late last year with Illion. But instead place a block for 1 month i accidentally put 6 months.

Kudos to ANZ. Unlike St George or WP, they rejected immediately without warning trying reach out to customer.

  • +1

Wondering if I get this one or the westpac platinum for $99 and 70k points (as I am customer first year reduced fee $49 + 50 qantas), the ANZ earning rate is higher though, but might get declined…anyone in the same situation ?

    • Same situation, am customer with Westpac, looking at the platinum card. Information on https://www.rwrds.com.au/qantas has me thinking ANZ is better, but I haven't done the exact maths.

      • +1

I ended up applying for the Westpac as I need to wait for June before applying again to an ANZ. I will do my minimum spending close it and apply for ANZ afterwards or if anything better comes up…

  • Looks like it's now 90,000 points

    • Bummer! Literally just cancelled my last one to hop onto this one and missed it by a day

  • Did anyone save a pdf of anz page for this offer? Page has been updated so I cannot see what other benefits for previous offer that I can get before I close the card (eg qantas lounge pass or other benefits)
    Thanks in advance
