I have picked up one of these exact PCs directly from government auction for half the price.

    • +3

      wow same spec?
      -7060 Micro i5-8500T 2.1GHz 8GB 256GB Wi-Fi

when and where are these government auctions done?

      • +9

It's usually not worth the effort. It doesn't happen all the time, and chances are it's far away from you, and when it finally happens near you there are other people bidding up the price.

You have to be very lucky to find such auctions near you, at a time you want a PC, and without many enthusiastic/competing bidders.

Also the PCs are sold as is, it carries some risk for retail bidders. Wholesalers buying in bulk have access to lots of spare parts to swap around.

Bidding remotely you will have to organise collection or carrier pickup, there are lots of hassle and fees involved.

So best to buy from a reputable trader such as this one, especially when there's a deal like this.

    Hi All,

    Will this transcode plex 4k?

    Thanks.
    K.

  • +1

Any link to add/upgrade to 1TB SSD for this ?

  • Looks like there is less than 70 left now in this second batch.

  • +3

Suggest to go for the 16GB upgrade. We bought from a previous deal without the update option, while 8GB is adequate, adding additional 8GB module really step up the performance. $35 is reasonable and saves you the trouble from buying incompatible RAM down the track.

You need PC4-21300 (DDR4 2666) SODIMM module, I think they are all 1.2V but best to check.

  • I'm tempted by one of these to run Lightroom desktop (classic) idealy i will run 16GB ram.

Any thoughts if it will have enough GPU and overall power to be ok?

My old XPS is a little old to not max out ram now in lightroom.

    • +2

Photoshop never complained about video card, but Premiere Pro does. So it seems GPU only matters for video editing.

  • One thing to note, if it's not already been mentioned, these come with 3 x Display Ports for video. There are no other video ports, digital or analogue.

Just bought one of these, as I don't have a monitor (I can use currently) that has a DP input:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Displayport-Bi-Directional-Snowkid…

    • +4

The 3rd DP is an expansion and not guaranteed to present.

If you fancy spending $48, you can get a HDMI port in place of the 3rd DP.

Cheaper to get a DP/HDMI adapter or cable if you monitor doesn't support DP natively. Under $30 delivered is probably more reasonable.

      • The cable cost me $11.34 delivered, so it's definitely the cheaper option, but I was literally just looking at the daughter board, wondering how easy it would be to find an HDMI equivalent. Thanks :-)

Confusing description with both types. Unidirection required? I would need a 3m one.

          • @KK2020: You don’t necessarily need it to be unidirectional but this one is and is the right way: DP to HDMI. I might be back for a 3m myself :-)

          • @KK2020: I use this cable, but in 1m length: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0863THGK3

Non-bidirectional (uni-directional) simply means DP in, HDMI out. (From PC DP to Monitor HDMI).

HDMI out, DP in cables are bidirectional and quite a bit dearer.

I was looking for a HDMI 2.0 output for this 7060 micro. got a 1600p ultrawide monitor with only one spare HDMI (2.0) input left on it (only has one DP input, which is used), and want at least 60Hz. I knew about the HDMI port option for the 7060 micro, but i obviously didnt look hard enough, thought it'd be discontinued. i also thought it'd be more than $48.

        ended up getting this instead:
        https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-adaptor-displayport-to-…
yep, only a few bucks cheaper. certainly not as clean as the inbuilt HDMI port, but i guess i will have the option to use it on other PCs, e.g. one of my older PC's has HDMI 1.4 outputs, which are pretty useless for hi-res screens (only 30Hz), so have the option to use the adapter off its DP output (and get HDMI 2.0).

  • 10 left in the current batch..

  • Do you get the wifi antenna?

    • +2

I did. Didn’t think it was there but found it wrapped with the power cables.

      • does it come with bluetooth and is it usb adapter or built in?

how fast is the wifi adapter?

is the storage a M2 or sata SSD?

is the back include hdmi or only display port and what cables you get with it?

can you post a pic of the back of the machine where the ports are?

        • +3

is the storage a M2 or sata SSD?

There's an m.2 slot where you can seemingly use a nvme ssd (according to the service manual posted above). The one provided is m.2 sata, at least in the one I ordered. There is an empty SATA SSD slot (blue bracket).

is the back include hdmi or only display port and what cables you get with it?

NO HDMI, 3 Display Ports. No cables provided. Just a wifi antenna + power supply.

Here's a pic of the internal and rear.

          • +2

            @settings: Update:

Booted up; there's built-in (Intel) Bluetooth.

          • @settings: thanks for pic+ info

can you post pic of the wifi antenna?
do you know what is the speed / spec of the included wifi?

        • +11

does it come with bluetooth and is it usb adapter or built in? how fast is the wifi adapter?
it comes with (built in, with internal wiring to the antenna port, and an antenna included) intel wireless 9560. googling that, it is wifi 5 2x2 and bluetooth 5.1

is the storage a M2 or sata SSD?
the 256gb ssd is a toshiba in the M2 2280 form factor. i am no expert on M 2 drives, NVMe, SATA, PCI-E 3.0 etc. but it has KSG60ZMV256G on it - google tells me that it is SATA. I ran Dell's hardware test on the PC, and every went ok, except for the SSD test section showing "WARNING", but didnt give much more detail. From the reviews I have seen on various tiny/micro PCs, it seems like these toshiba SATA M2 drives are pretty cheap and slow. It sounds like a gen 3 NVMe/PCIe drive might be better, but i dunno whether it is worth spending the $$ on it. i.e. on a sub-$300 PC.

is the back include hdmi or only display port and what cables you get with it?
3 display ports. i.e. 2 DP ports in the standard positions, plus another DP port in the expansion slot no cables except for the cables on the power adapter.

other observations of the example i received today:
          - there wasn't much dust in it.
          - the 2.5 drive caddy was included. I have an old 500gb 2.5 SSD drive that i'll probably chuck in it (just for a bit of storage, not apps or os etc)
          - it came with a genuine dell 90W power brick
          - one of the usb ports on the back wasnt that good (was getting keyboard not found error), had to switch the keyboard to another port. havent really tested everything out yet, havent tried that port again, or tried any of the front ports
          - have only used wifi so far, havent tested ethernet
          - it has the vpro sticker on it.
          - i got for the 16gb upgrade, didnt specify preference for single 16 or 2 8gb sticks. it came with 2 x 8gb sticks, which suits me. sticker on top one was 855843-r72 - found on google. HP RAMAXEL
          - windows 11 pro on it. on dell's site via the service tag, it originally came with windows 10 pro.
          - the DP-to-HDMI2.0 adaper that i linked in another comment on here works perfectly without any issues. using that with a HDMI cable through my monitor's HDMI(2.0) input port, I am getting 3840x1600@85Hz - the same that i am getting on my other PC via display port.
          - very quiet, but i havent really stressed it (but dont really intend to).
          - overall pretty hapy with it so far. quiet, seems pretty responsive etc. makes my slightly older optiplex 7050 mini tower (i7 7700, 32gig) seem slow/laggy, despite benchmarks suggesting that that CPU should be a bit faster. maybe a clean install on the old PC is in order.

          • @sclyde2: Thanks for the write up. Great that you got the 3rd DP port. I wonder if all the units come with the 3rd DP or it's luck of the draw.

          • @sclyde2: thanks for the detailed write up.

will you try to get some refund or replacement for the failed usb port and m2 sata warning?

what are you going to use this pc for?

shame that they didn't include one hdmi port, instead of putting 3 display port

            • @pinkybrain: I doubt I'd bother trying to get a refund for the SSD or USB "issues". The PC appears to do what I need it to, and do it well, especially for the price

I haven't yet confirmed that the USB is at fault, whether it was a random error, whether the keyboard's USB plug was dodgy (could've had some dust on it), but I seem to have enough working USB ports for what I want to do. Need to test the front USB ports, as I will need them (eg for a SD card reader etc).

The SSD issue is confined to a warning message that appears when running Dell diagnostics. I don't know what it means, if there is any real world impact. It is a bit of a worry that it mentions that the warranty has expired next to that warning. I ran the test again after doing all the updates (including BIOS), and the warning remained. Having said all this, given how cheap/slow/small that drive is, I am not worried if it fails. I wouldn't mind a slightly larger/faster drive, reckon a 1tb SN570 sounds like the go to without breaking the bank.

This PC is to be purposed for mainly web surfing, online shopping, email, and YouTube etc. I have plugged a USB DAC/headphone amp into it, and it works great. I currently have an old dell USB keyboard and mouse plugged into it, but will revert to wireless soon - not yet sure if I will use Bluetooth (not tested yet) or the Logitech USB dongle to connect the input devices. I will probably also use it to put some video files through it, through a usb SD card reader, from the dashcam, and I am starting to look into using the old GoPro again too. large files generally get sent straight to the NAS, but it would be good to have a bit of headroom in the PC's storage space. Not sure if I will do any video editing on it.

My other PC mentioned above previously did all this, plus ran BLue Iris (for my house cams), Plex sever, ubiquiti controller (wifi access points). That old PC seemed to get very laggy when web surfing, so I am going to dedicate that old PC to server kind of stuff and dedicate the 7060 micro to user kind of stuff.

Yes it would've been much more preferable to have the HDMI in the expansion port instead of the additional DP. However, it isnt too expensive to purchase either the HDMI port (linked in here for about $48), or the DP to HDMI adapter (which I got), or, if you don't need to use high resolution, someone linked some much cheaper DP-to-HDMI cables (which look like they put out HDMI v1.x)

  • OOS

  • Will there be any further stock added?

  • Hi @Calmago checking to see if there is any more stock inbound?

    • +2

There's another 750 units that have come off hold. Hoping to have some numbers updated once the stock can be pulled from storage.

      • Great to hear. Already have two from you guys for various home use and now looking over a couple more.

  • Reporting back, came in the mail today, got it all setup and going. Got lucky I guess with my upgrade request and got a single 16GB chip so happy about that. On the whole, good little unit. Now just on the hunt for a good SSD to add in for some more space.

    • Amazing, ETA on mine is 1-6 Feb. Doesn't looks it's it's been picked up by AU post yet.

      • +1

Same here - another West Oz address.

Picked up last Friday, but still sitting in their sorting facility - I think it has been well established by now that OzPost is pretty ordinary, and really doesn't give a shit.

sclyde2's post above fills in a lot of gaps.

        • Mine was picked up last Wednesday and has been sitting in an ACT sorting facility without movement since, AusPost still claiming it's expected today/tomorrow.

        • Now showing as on its way, from Brisbane to Welshpool.

            • @TheTwo: Shameful, still says on its way to Welshpool. AU post must be using turtles for delivery.

    • are you planning to get another 16 gb ram later one?
      and which one?

generally it is better to get the same ram brand for compatibility so it is harder to do it yourself and more expensive too.

      • No plans yet to bump the RAM, but at least wanted to have the option to later instead of being locked in.

        • is there concern about finding the same brand and spec ram?

it would have been better to pay $35.10 x 2 for 32 GB from the same seller
          just to have better compatibility

          • @pinkybrain: Maybe. But then I didn’t really know if the 16GB stick is a good quality brand/speed anyway based on what I was going to get. Happy enough to get 16GB now and get up and running as 8GB in this day and age is a no go.

  • +3

    Back in stock.

    • The latest batch will probably ship early next week, right? :)

      • +1

The guys are pumping out the orders at the moment, so hopefully by Friday. The public holiday won't help things.

  • +1

Any deals on VESA mounts for mounting this to monitors?

  • Hi @Calmago is there an option to get it configured with 32 GB RAM instead of the 8/16 options?

    • No sorry.

      • Thanks for the reply @Calmago. One last try, can the 16gb be configured with a single dimm?

        • You can put through a request (leave not on order) but I can’t guarantee.

  • I need a very basic Micro PC to run SimHub, it only needs Win10 or Win11, Bluetooth/Ethernet/Wifi/USB/audio.

Other than the 6th Gen CPU, there any downside to getting this older model below for $139?

    Dell OptiPlex 7040 Micro Intel i5 6500T 2.50GHz 8GB RAM 128GB SSD Wifi Win10

  • What would be more energy efficient, one of these or a beelink tiny pc from AliExpress

    • probably beelink

  • I got one. Got delivered yesterday however disappointed as no Bluetooth and was given a usb WiFi (which was nice but very old 150mbps). Needed the bluetooth :(. Good price though.

    • +1

the eBay listing doesn't list BT however the ozb post does - maybe the spec changed with newer batches?

(sounds like the wifi/bt card was removed from the model you received)

      • Yes and I shouldve double checked the eBay listing. OzB post was misleading in saying it did include it.

        • to be honest I didn't check it until I saw your post.

On the plus side an add on card with wifi/bt would not be too expensive, did it come with an antenna array at all? https://www.ebay.com/itm/234587583679 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVQvIZmx16U

          • +1

@bdl: Mine did not come with an antenna array. Internal WiFi/BT cards not too expensive. I bought this https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B082TWPZXL?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_… (prob overpriced) but wanted the next day delivery. Should receive it today.

            • +1

@zarz83: All good - one heads up with that card - I retro fitted one to an Ryzen based HP envy and it wouldn't work with Linux at all, I narrowed it down to a limitation of the mainboard rather than the card itself.. works perfectly in Win 10, however. YMMV.

    • +1

That's disappointing, especially when others have been getting AC wifi with BT.

Mine is due between 27-1st so I hope my batch includes the wifi card and not a slow dongle with no BT..

    • +5

Send a message through eBay mate and the CS team will sort you out. They should all have internal wifi and Bluetooth. Looks like it may have been an odd one.

      • Whilst this is great and all, if it was an odd one, why would the seller/sender explicitly package a seperate USB dongle, rather than putting this odd unit aside and shipping a "non-odd" one to the customer?

With all due respect, the word "should" worries me, because you also said they "should" all come with nvme SSD's, but it seems everyone's been getting sata SSD's.

        • @Grish Maybe not THAt odd - mine came with built-in wifi (haven't looked for BT), yet they included a wifi dongle too. I ordered mine the first day of that ebay discount (the Monday?), delivered by Wednesday.
I was more disappointed the ebay description listed HDMI as a connectivity method but did not have it, I never looked at the pictures ;/
Also bought before deal post by rep, would've gone the 16GB upgrade had I noticed the option. Can't fault delivery though, this and their 4k monitor, 2 days QLD to SYD still hard to believe.

      • Thank you for the suggestion. I emailed through eBay/Hopegully they will get back to me and approve it :).

        • How did you go with this?

          • @pyr0: They said they will shop but haven't heard anything since. I'm thinking due to Aussie day public holiday etc. I'm hoping I hear from them.

            • @zarz83: Received today which is awesome.

      • Received mine today and no onboard wifi. Will message via ebay

      • Bit disappointed with this. I messaged explaining how I was told the units have onboard WiFi and I wouldnt have bought otherwise - this is the entirety of the response I got:

"Due to the high quantity of these machines that we have available and these units come in mixed configurations, we are unable to confirm if the units will be equipped with an internal WiFi card or a USB WiFi adapter. "

        • Wow, that's very poor, they are able to seperate the ones with wifi from the ones without, but instead chose the lazy option.

        • +1

This is extremely poor, and a clear misrepresentation not only here, but even worse on the eBay listing as well.

That disclaimer should be front and centre of the listing, and in the OP here as well.

          Not a good look bneacttrader.

Will see what my one has when it arrives early next week.

        • What amuses me the most is they were able to give me my 16gb RAM upgrade, but flunked on the rest.

  • Received mine today with upgraded ram. Excellent condition. Harley a mark on the outside. Nice and quick. 4K encoding with Plex not a problem.

    • Nice! Did you get 2x8 or 1x16? Also I guess you have wifi+bt internal card with antenna?

      • Haven't looked inside yet, but yes to internals for BT and WiFi.
I'll try and have a look inside today.

      • +2

        CPU -Z says its 1 x 16GB ram

        • did you ask for 1x16GB?

what ram brand + spec is it?

          what is the wifi speed?

          • +1

@pinkybrain: Idk about others but I got Crucial CT16G4SFRA32A, single rank 16GB, which I think is very decent.

My heart sank when I realised it only has 1 antenna (it was listed I just didn't notice), but the wifi seems fast (for wifi). I think I saw connection speed up to 1.7G. I did lose connection once but with new windows installing updates in the background it's hard to tell what was going on. Because of that I installed Dell Command Update which updated BIOS and a bunch of drivers including wifi (even after windows update).

            • +1

              @nfr:

              I got Crucial CT16G4SFRA32A

Nice, you can pair it with the same 16GB RAM for 32GB.

              • @RichardL: Lol that was exactly what I did!

  • +2

Got mine delivered a few mins ago. The unit is pretty dirty and the inside is full of dust. Also looks like a part of the case plastic has been broken off. More like a used item than refurbished. Looking at it again its in horrible condition, will try to get them to replace it.

    • is it from the first batch of orders?

      • +1

        I believe its the 2nd

        • ah that sucks

did you get internal wifi + bluetooth or usb one?

Refurbished devices include some cleanup, repair, or other maintenance:
not sure if broken plastic case should be considered used or refurbish

    • +1

Not sure why you were negged, you are right, these are sold as refurbished units…

Any chance you could post a pic or two?

Also, did you get the lucky internal wifi, or the scummy dongle?

      • I'll get some pics tomorrow if I don't forget. I already cleaned up the inside fully by taking off the fan since it had so much dust.

They did give the internal wifi (im using ethernet anyway) but I don't think they gave the actual antenna..

        • Pull an antenna from an old wifi router

  • Looking for some assistance please. Bought this unit. Very happy with the purchase. I want to partition the hard drive and install both windows 11 and Linux.

When installing windows, I get the following error

"A media driver your computer needs is missing" or "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" error message when you install Windows"

Anyone got a solution? Tried the usual that's on the web….use different USB sticks, unplug and replug. No luck.

    Linux Mint installs fine.

    Thanks

try and tell me which solution works for you.

this problem is probably cos windows has no drivers for the m2 ssd or the usb 3.0 port

      • Thanks. No dice. Will play around with it some more
