Do You Subscribe to eBay Plus?

Simple question as the title says. I know many Ozbargainers who subscribe to Amazon prime and find it to be worth the fees (myself included). Ebay Plus has been inferior in comparison, although it has been catching up lately with a few deals, coupons and letting you sell 3 items per month without variable fee . I just signed up to the monthly subscription to sell a few things that I bough due to the "Ozbargain Spirit" (or as some would call it 'impulse buying')

So folks, Do you subscribe and pay for ebay plus?

Only because they offered 1 year for free, after that I won’t be using it anymore.

I went to cancel in Dec and they offered $30 voucher if I stayed

So I stayed - the voucher came through the day after payment of the $49 was made.

Wouldn't pay $49 but for $19 I'll try my luck with getting value out

Getting paid for the annual subscription like this.

  • +8

Nope, ebay has gone down the drain IMO compared to what it once was. Amazon coming to AU was one big nail in the coffin, the fact they no longer do big sales like they used to was another. I tried the trial for ebay plus and didn't buy a single thing during the trial period. I barely buy anything from ebay now. Used to do ~150 ebay purchases per year. Last year I did 9 so definitely not worth it for me.

    • +5

agreed. used to use ebay a bit but not anymore.
I pay for amazon prime and use it all the time now.

  • +5

I do because it saves me more than the subscription each year.

    • +3

Yeah. A lot of people whine about it, but between the $5 vouchers every month, the 3 50% (or free) sendle postage, and the extra 2% on sales, I've more than made my money back.

  • i subscribe to the yearly plan for free, which wasn't for free, and ebay never gave me a credit so i claimed a refund via Paypal.
i lost my ebay plus membership after getting $220 in vouchers over 2 accounts.
i have just renewed it under a monthly plan as i was getting $50 off a purchase for $5.
i will once again let it lapse after the month, and only renew it when i get a $50+ voucher for free

Got annual subscription from a cut price deal, but am still trying to figure out what use it is.

  • need to split the "i subscribe annual" option to "i subscribe at full freight" & "i subscribe cos they offered a healthy discount"

  • Took advantage of the $6 annual membership offer, saved enough money in free postage and had a couple $5 off vouchers to make it very worthwhile.

It can be a handy answer to Amazon Prime if you buy enough and want free shipping. But you have to basically make sure what you buy is a part of plus.

I buy a bit from Peters of Kensington who offer free Ebay Plus shipping on many items.

  • I got a 1 year for $10 and a $100 voucher??? I don't know how

    • Tell me how

      • It was mentioned above with a link. Targeted offer and probably only re-occurring towards the end of the year.

Ever since I had a poor review deleted by a seller and eBay support had no interest I stopped using eBay as there is no way to judge how good a seller is. Switched to Prime.

  • I have that, got for few $, can't remember exactly, may be $5 per year, previous years they paid $1 per year to us for using that

  • +1

Got the $5 a year it's junk! all overpriced computer gear, also plenty of drop shipping garbage

I have had eBay Plus since they started it. But i've never paid for it. Indeed, on a couple of occasions, they've essentially paid me to have it.

  • I got the cheap or free membership. Won't renew unless something good comes up. Though the $5 off $15 spend every month is good.

    • Though the $5 off $15 spend every month is good.

eBay seem to randomly screw up these vouchers.

For example, mine simply vanished even though they haven't expired. This happened with two of my eBay Plus accounts.

      • You need to contact them. I wasn't given them at the start and had to chase up support.

        • +1

Not only do you need to contact them, but you need to keep pushing via chat / email / callback.

  • Paid $5 for a year

  • Looks like I am the only one on the monthly plan lol!

  • I got one year free for quitting then the 2nd year i got a $40 voucher and this year i did the cashback thing so i have had 3 years for about $20
Its good for returns…. otherwise its pretty crappy

  • Have had a couple of full years when it was 'free'.
I join occasionally for a month when the saving makes sense, same for Amazon
eBay still has items that are either cheaper or not available on Amazon
    .

  • should split the annual plan between
    paid full price
    half price
    free

i have annual but got it for free during the recent promotion

  • I'm only on it coz I got the $5 a year deal on Christmas like everyone else :P
definitely wont pay full price when it ends

  • Chuck 100 items into the cart. Only slowly pay what you need.
Then tell them about just WHO is the customer and if they do still sell batteries that have less than 20% of the advertised capacity!!
Tell them Aliexpress has a weaker extortion department!
Bangood is another one to compete and more…

  • Paid $49 for a year to get an $80 voucher.

Since then I have actually found it more useful than expected. Most purchases from Amazon Prime but I now check eBay as well and about 10% of the time its a better deal.

  • Not to hijack this thread, but I am genuinely curious about all the comments in why people think Amazon Prime is better than eBay Plus?
I have had eBay Plus for years and has been amazing value for me, and I buy 5-6 items a month.
Amazon on the other hand I can't justify at all, have purchases maybe 2-3 things in 5 years.
Every time I think I should try Amazon I either can't find what I want, it won't ship to Australia, or it is considerably more expensive than eBay.

I know you get access to Video and Music via Prime but these aren't things I would use so wouldn't benefit me. Maybe that is the difference for many?

Amazon's pricing fluctuates. If you put items on a price tracker like camel 3, you will get notified when it hits that low price. Then pull the trigger with free post and you have a healthy bargain.

Grocery items are usually matched with Coles and Woolies with an extra 10% off. No carting tp and cartons of drink to the car.

I've gotten a few things from US with free post not available in Australia. Particular footwear for example, sits around $80 but when they drop to $55, I get notified and buy another pair.

Bottom line is shop before you need it, not when you need it with Amazon.

  • Yes I have ebay plus only

  • +1

No would not be cost affective for me. But could be for others depending on their spending habits.

  • Will probably have prime forever. Ebay plus is good if it is complimentary. I have saved a few thousand over a few years but never paid more than a return voucher worth.

Can't compare Amazon and eBay. Ebay handy for dell specials and junk not found elsewhere besides maybe aliex. Other obscure items such as car parts etc also.

The price jacking needs to be addressed.

Coming back to Oz from the UK was like going back in time with eBay and Amazon. I was used to next day delivery even same day. Virtually no delivery fees on anything. Items very cheap. In Oz it can take weeks to get an item particularly in WA. Delivery is huge. Prices are almost retail. I can order and get items from china quicker than here.

  • I clicked the link for the $80 voucher, but never went through with subscribing. They had a $4.99 annual deal in Nov 22, so I signed up for that.
They sent me a $20 voucher and $80 voucher, so of course I used them.

I prefer Prime over Plus though.

I want to cancel it soon. The customer service been pretty abysmal regarding my gc issue.
Their $5 off discount for members a is basically useless as it can only be used for their list of eligible items

    • I have used the discount several times and find it useful.

  • +1

The $5 ebayplus voucher (min$15 spend) does not show up every month. I have to raise a complaint every month and it takes them 2 weeks to resolve. Ebay customer service is horrible.
I will never pay for ebayplus.

  • It's offered me $30 to stay, I wonder if it's better off to cancel and wait for an offer.

Last time I think I got like a $49 voucher or something where it didn't cost me much.
