  • I gather they have taken a tougher stance on using these for recharges. Any experience on this?

    • +5

I used one of these for recharge a few weeks ago. Online chat with customer service rep and no problems.

    • +3

On Monday I called customer service and told them my wife purchased this Boost 12 month pack for me thinking she had purchased a recharge pack. The customer service guy said no problem and set it up for me over the phone and transferred my number over to the new sim. My new was active within 10 minutes…..too easy just speak to them nicely and they are too willing to help

    • Yes , customer service warned me thrice at my first instance of recharge.

      • I don't understand … They literally say 'new customers only' on the ad … Do they just ignore that and let you use it as a recharge if you ask nicely?

        • i called them and asked to recharge. customer service said next time i need to recharge online not with a new sim.

    Any sick cashbacks?

    • Just a tad unwell. No explosive 💩 as yet…

  • +1

    Waiting for cashrewards

  • +5

    Available $152 @ebay

  • +3

It was $40 cashback last month so total cost only $130 and currently using it now. The 5G speed is really good.

    • +1

5g speed capped from Apr 2023 onwards - not sure if the uncapped speed was significantly more than 150Mbps

      • +5

The cap doesn't apply if you recharge before 4th April.

        • +1

Yep correct. Details from the horse's mouth here: https://boost.com.au/blogs/help-topics/network-speeds

        • But can you recharge with this 140GB package before April even though your expired dates would be somewhere in December 2023 to avoid the capped?

          • +1

@ivyholmes: Yes, the way I see it, so long as you use this before the 4th of April, the speed caps won't apply until the next time you recharge.

Note that the 140GB in this deal is time limited for activations by 30 Jan after which I think it drops back to 130GB (don't quote me though).

So, in a nutshell, if you want to avoid the cap and also get the 140GB, then you need to activate by 30 Jan.

If you don't care about the bonus data and just want to avoid the cap, then you have until 3 April to activate.

      • +1

it doesn't matter, my reading/watching speed is way slower than the 'capped' download speed.

      • I can get 800mbs+ downloads when I am near the mast, so yeah! (Sadly that's not the same as in my house where it's barely 4G)

  • this is much cheaper on ebay isn't it?

  • How long you’re considered a new customer if you’ve used them before? Cheers

    • +1

you are buying a sim pack, it will be sold at that price and that's it. If you are with them right now either talk to support to transfer the new sim (as mentioned above), or just simply transfer to a cheap provider (e.g. Kogan ESIM for free) for a little bit, and transfer it to the new Boost SIM card.

      • Cheers mate

  • +3

Says "valid for new customers only who activate by 30 Jan 23".
If I buy now it may not arrive by 30 Jan but does it matter?

    Gone Belong,
Telstra guarantees ZERO carbon emissions !!!! I feel so great about that.
    Wait there is more:
Ah speed is capped at 150MB/s
But NO GST !!!! At least that is what the Coles docket tries to tell me.

  • Boost's 4G network is very bad right now, I will lost signal in restaurant or shopping mall.

  • I see a couple of comments mentioning it being cheaper on eBay. Does anyone have a link, because my search is only turning up ones that are over $170?

  • Got a similar deal as an existing customer as well - $170 for 130gb, although this may be because my plan is expiring soon.

    • from where ?

      • Recharge tab in the app

        • Hmm… mines expiring mid Feb but don’t see $170 if I look at recharge in the app.
          Maybe too early?
How far away from expiry were you?

          • @fotski66: I got a promotional message about it exactly 21 days before expiry so I'm guessing that's when it triggers (if it isn't targeted)

    • I just asked them directly and no deals for existing users, the $170 new customer shuffle was all they would admit to.

So dumped them, there are other offers out there and they won't learn to value what they have unless they start losing customers - and $200, or even $170, is too much for 140GB.

      • Yeah I agree fully. Even at $170 I'm done with Boost - moving to Woolworths.

  • Literally just bought a new $200 card and ported over from telstra 2 hours ago. Anyone like my chances on asking for the difference of the $30?

    • Just messaged them on their online chat and they were able to add $30 worth of credit (40GB) to the account for me!

      • if you could give the link /page for online chat pls

  • +1
  • how do you connect - chart with its customer service ?

  • Wait … It's 140GB … But it includes a free recharge? How does that work?

Like, you sign up, you get 140GB, and then whenever you feel like it you can recharge for free and get another 140GB and 12 months?

    • +1

The site says SIM includes first recharge, so I take it to mean that the initial 140GB on first sign-up /activation is considered the first recharge. Agree the wording is a bit clunky though

  • +1

Hi all - can anyone explain how to get the recharge at the same $170 price? Do we buy the SIM and then get Boost customer service to port the number across?

EDIT - just spoke to Boost on Livechat and they';ve made a note on my daughter's account and given me a reference number. So once I buy the new SIM (at the promo price) I can then contact Livechat again, give them the reference number and they will port her current number across to the new SIM

  • Question so the total data for the whole year is 140gb? Is that enough. Any experiences?

    • also, once you activate the initial 140gb by paying $170, does that mean you won't have to pay again for the entire year? And once the year ends, can you recharge the same plan for another 365 days? or do you just have to buy another new plan? TIA

      • +1

Yes, once you activate, it lasts for 1 year, and then you'll have to recharge, but you'll be paying the original price ($200), not the discounted price for this deal. Usually, people tend to just look around for other cheap sim plans and switch to another provider, rather than continuing their plan.

  • Just to clear this up as the add is quite misleading.

This is NOT for a first recharge. This is for a customer activating a new Sim card.

Got a phone for my kid for Christmas from Boost which included a Sim card with 28 days prepaid loaded on it. It expired yesterday. Tried to do our 'first recharge' on it, but it was unable to get it to include the $30 rebate. Jumped on the phone with them to sort this out. They consider the first ever activation as a recharge. Which by definition is wrong.

Could only offer me the bonus if I bought a new Sim and could transfer the number over. Don't really have time to wait for that arrive in the mail.

    Shopping around now.

  • If I buy this sim online. How long do I have to activate before it expires? Have some data on Belong I want to burn through first.

  • +1

Price match at OW for $161. Just did that yesterday.
