Oh, not an ultimate one. A shame… They were selling ultimate cards with 15% discount not so long ago - that was nice.

I was in JB yesterday afternoon and a customer was at the counter shucking a giant stack of TCN cards. She had obviously taken advantage of a recent deal but might have only been able to get low-value cards. The checkout person didn’t look very amused, especially since they were the only one serving and the lineup had grown rather long.

      • +3

Usually they will call for assistance at the checkout. Yes, it would be annoying but not the end of the world.

If you are the person with all the gift cards just make sure you are polite, apologise for the delay and at the end thanks them for their time

      • +7

Out of respect to the staff make sure you bring the cards preshucked and with the pin scratched. Helps the JB worker process the transaction faster, other customers happy and you don't have to awkwardly shuck and scratch while everyone is starring at you pissed off.

        • Yes, this. Was stuck behind this couple scratching cards away at the counter while we stared at them.

      • @Chazzozz Any idea approx how long they took for the entire transaction. I got around 38 TCN cards ready to get a new phone from JB.

        • I used about 25 and took about 10 minutes

Each swipe transaction takes around 20 seconds including processing and the staff entering value each time

        • +1

@Ash1234 Sorry, no. I was two people behind her, and in the ten minutes I was waiting to be served she’d gotten through about a quarter of her stack. Most of the time was spent shucking and revealing the PIN. The guy at the register was pretty quick to run them through faster than she was handing them over. So, earlier suggestions to pre-shuck will really help, and the staff will greatly appreciate the assistance.

          • @Chazzozz: Thanks guys,looks like easier than I thought.

For anyone interested in the Google Play gift cards in this deal, you should be able to get Officeworks to price beat it. Once the price beat is applied, this would equate to a 14.5% discount.

You can request a price beat either instore or over the phone (1300 633 423):

    • If you are instore, take the Google Play gift cards you want to purchase to the checkout and ask staff for a price beat. You will need to show evidence of this deal, so it should be sufficient to show page 13 of the physical or digital copy of the Coles catalogue (which advertises this deal).

    • If you are calling over the phone, tell the staff member to look at the deal on page 13 of the Coles catalogue on the Coles website.

Please note that if staff agree to a price beat request, they can restrict the sale of Google Play gift cards to “reasonable quantities”. For example, you may only be able to purchase 3x $100 Google Play gift cards via a price beat.

Just in case anyone was wondering, TCN gift cards are not currently sold at Officeworks, so price beat is not an option for the TCN gift cards in this deal.

Anyone know if google.play cards work for all accounts or AU / region specific

For example if I use turkey

    • 3 in 1 question: would I be able to fully use up a $100 Celebration gift card to do this over the phone? I guess it depends on 1. if Celebration gift cards can be used to pay for an over the phone price beat purchase, 2. if they sell variable load Google Play cards, or if not, 3. whether I can split payment between Celebration and debit/credit card.

If not possible over the phone, could it be done in store?

      • +1
        1. I think you can use a Celebration gift card for over the phone purchases in general, but I am not sure whether Officeworks accepts it over the phone.

        2. Officeworks does not sell variable load Google Play gift cards. (I think the only variable load gift cards sold at Officeworks are Officeworks gift cards and Coles Group & Myer gift cards.)

        3. I’m not sure whether split payments across multiple cards are possible over the phone.

I am not 100% sure whether you can use a Celebration gift card to purchase a Google Play gift card instore at Officeworks, as I have not tried purchasing a Google Play gift card at Officeworks.

        • +1

Thanks. Will try from Wednesday and report back (unless I can find Coles Group & Myer cards to buy instead! No luck at four Sydney stores in the gift card section where they stock Google Play, Only1, Officeworks GCs etc)

        • +1

The card was declined over the phone unfortunately

    • Some Officeworks people think you can't but you can.

"Misleading and deceptive" - two words that will make them change their minds.

How come only JBHifi is in bold?

    • +12

OzBargainers mostly buy these gift cards for

    • +21

It’s part of their sponsorship agreement with OzBargain. Every time you type JB Hi-Fi, it comes out in bold. Pretty neat, huh

      • testing JB Hi-Fi for auto bolding!

        • My guess is that the proprietary algorithm doesn’t do it every time, but waits for just the right moment to subliminally seal the deal as you’re mindlessly scrolling

  • Damn.
I am planning to buy a bicycle and would need to buy 136 TCN active cards to pay for it😂

Do variable card come on discounts usually?

    • Never at 10% off.

    • -1

Where does it say denominations? Should be able to get 5x$100

      • He could be buying one of those bougie $12,600 bikes

    • Hey can you check my post in classified?

    • Just wait a couple of months as the northern hemisphere summer (May/June) sees new models coming out (2024 range) and the existing models will hopefully be discounted. It's the best time of the year to buy a bike.

Yes. Google Opinion Rewards pays for mine.

    • Yes, you can

  • Yes! Have been waiting for this. Going to get enough to preorder the PSVR2. 10% off is good enough for me!

    • Actually now that i look at it i can only get $50 cards. Not going to bother buying almost $900 worth. Will wait for something else. :)

  • Right after I bought $150 worth (@5% cashback) through ShopBack.

  • Where did THE ICONIC go? That was previously on it no??

    • I don’t think so? I don’t think The Iconic was ever part of the TCN gift card scheme… and a quick look back over participating retailers throughout 2022 seems to suggest this.

The Iconic is part of the Ultimate / Celebration gift card scheme, so are you thinking of one of the those gift cards instead?

  • Can you use TCN Kids card to buy Google play from Jbhifi?

    • yes

  • Are they (TCN) having IT issues? Swapped 5 cards only two were sent to me and even then the two don't open…

    • Probably getting inundated due to unprecedented demand.

    • Hold the bus!
Are you saying there's a way to swap TCN cards?
I accidentally bought the wrong TCN cards yesterday (Active instead of Kids) and Coles wouldn't let me change them 10mins after I walked out of the shop.
I had my receipt, cards intact etc - it was just against their policy.

      • +1

Nope, can't swap between TCN card types - you can only swap the TCN card you have for a gift card specific to a brand on that card. (i.e. Active TCN Card -> Rebel Gift Card)

  • If I swap for hotels.com vouchers, can I use multiple hotels cards to pay for a booking and still ear reward nights?

  • I just bought an iphone 14 pro max with the woolies tcn teen gift cards, in total 42x $50 cards, spent an hour or so using my s22 ultra to scan each card and converted to jbhfi, then just bought the iphone through jbhifi online. If you dont want to go in line and get death stared, would suggest swapping the tcn cards for jbhifi digital cards and just buying online in your spare time. There is no limit to how many jb digital gift cards you can use in one transaction. Im travelling soon so look forward to getting 10% gst back stacked aswell.

    • Did you swap your TCN cards for JB gift cards on TCN website?

  • Does anyone know if theres a limit of gift cards you can use online for JB Hi-Fi? I was hoping to use them for the 15% off TV/Soundbar deal.
    Cheers.

    • +1

No limit as long as you swap the TCN cards for JB gift cards on TCN website

      • +1

        Thanks @rain-e

  • Are the gift cards Eftpos cards? or must be swapped to retailer gift cards?

    • I received a $100 TCN "Love" gift card, of which all the retailers listed are not places I shop.. Is it strictly enforced? the listed retailers?

    • +1

I’m assuming you’re referring to the TCN gift cards and not the Google Play gift cards…

The TCN gift cards in this deal indeed operate on the EFTPOS network.

Some participating retailers accept it in their instore locations (Instore), some participating retailers require you to go through TCN to swap the TCN gift card for a retailer-specific gift card (Online), and some participating retailers let you do both (Instore & Online).

You will need to go to the relevant TCN webpage, scroll down to the grid of participating retailer logos and press/tap on the participating retailer you are interested in to see what the redemption options are.

  • How does one add the TCN kids cards to google pay on Android.
Theres seems to be no guide for it on thier FAQs just a vague attempt.
    Anyone figured how to,
The TCN app requires m9bile and a customer service number (whats that?)

    • +1

You cannot add the TCN Kids gift cards in this deal to a mobile wallet, as the TCN gift cards in this deal are the EFTPOS version.

You should be able to add the digital version (i.e. the Mastercard version) of the TCN Kids gift cards to a mobile wallet.

      • +1

        Ah thanks for that.
Ill just hang on them physical cards, didn't know there were 2 types.
