Personal Finance Tracker Spread Sheet $6 (Was $8) @ CompiledSanity Personal Finance

3030

Lowe's rate rises haven't done much to stop the inflation on the retirement age, but don't give up on your plans to retire before 90!

This formula driven and automated net worth and savings tool has been really popular on OzBargain and reddit, and hopefully you'll enjoy it too! The sheet is made to help track monthly finances and provides a bird's eye view of your financial position each month. For me, I saw the light on how much I was spending on OXO Good Grips and Victorinox knives every month (not nearly enough).

——
FAQ #1: Why should I pay money for this?
The sheet is heavily automated, has live pricing and is a one-off payment rather than a subscription. If you're really interested, feel free to join the subreddit where I take future feature suggestions (and have for the past three years) and other users can help you debug and get set up.

FAQ #2: What permissions do I need to give and what information will you get off me?
All info is full self-contained, and never leaves the sheet. If you're particularly security conscious, there are 2 versions:
- FULL: Contains the full suite of automated features, but requires a few expansive permissions for them to work.
- SLIM: Doesn't support email updates, calendar reminders or the migration feature, but doesn't require those permissions.

Hope you like it and here's to saving to buy-out Twitter in 2024.

  • Hello! Bought this earlier today and still no invite :(

    • Could you send me a PM with your PayPal ID? I’ll sort it out for you now.

    • Please send me a PM and I’ll sort this out ASAP by sending the invite manually. If you could include a PayPal transaction ID or your email address I’ll send it once I receive those details.

      Apologies for the inconvenience.

Same with others, I'm now stuck at "Click to accept disclaimer".
    It shows "Running script" forever.

    Update for others:
Ok, it got through just now but it took quite few minutes. I don't know why it takes that long but be patient, :)

    • Sometimes Google Cloud has some congested resources. Glad it’s working now!

  • Bought it! it's easily 10 times, most probably closer to 100 times better than my own sheet.
Appreciate the spreadsheet and all the effort you've put into it!

I know what I'll be doing on Australia Day… updating my spreadsheets :)

    • Glad you’re enjoying :) Have a great long weekend!

I am truly surprised so many like or use this, but goodo to all if that is what you need.

  • Well bought it based on the good feedback but unfortunately morningstar integration is not working properly. I added the fund as described in his help pages but it returns a unit price of $4000 instead of $1.69. For a moment I thought I'm a billionaire !!!

    • Currently working on this. Morningstar has recently overhauled their entire price stack and it hasn’t been stable to develop against this past month. I’m aiming to release an update shortly.

In the interim, you can still overwrite the problematic price with a manual price for accurate net worth. Hoping to have this fixed shortly.

      • awesome. Thank you. Are we talking here days or weeks for the fix ?

  • Is there any way to track app based managed funds (eg Raiz, Spaceship)?

Just bought it and getting started trying to set it up. Does anyone see any issues with the following permissions this thing wants to work?
    - See, edit, create and delete all your Google Sheets spreadsheets
    - See, edit, share and permanently delete all the calendars that you can access using Google Calendar
    - Connect to an external service
    - Send email as you
    - Display and run third-party web content in prompts and sidebars inside Google applications

If you’d like a breakdown of the permissions, I have explanations for each in the FAQ.

Additionally you can also use the slimmed version for minimal permissions to function.

      • Hey,
Yes I saw that however, it's a little confusing when comparing to the alert modal from Google. Your FAQ's state they are permissions solely for your workbook however, the Google alert modal states it's "all your Google Sheets spreadsheets" which would suggest, all workbooks/google sheets saved in your google drive.
Also, there seems to be an error when trying to open in excel. I sent a message via Reddit if someone could take a look and get back to me that would be great.

        • The access all workbooks permission is used when upgrading to newer versions of the sheet. When you upgrade you make a new copy of the latest sheet, and then the included migration tool will access your old sheet (via you dropping a link) and copy across and populate all your data for you.

This means that it requires that permission, but makes upgrading to a new sheet take around 20 seconds. The choice is entirely yours however as the slimmed sheet doesn’t require this permission.

And thanks for posting on my subreddit, that’s where I prefer to diagnose issues. I’m a bit behind on support requests so I’ll try and get to it over the next couple of days.

  • Hi CSpersonal and or other users,

Could I ask the following before buying….

    1. Can it work on iPad and mac or PC as one user? IE Can the one purchase goto my iPad and MacBook or PC laptop?
    2. Does it keep track of CGT info for shares?
    3. Is it a once off buy or is there a subscription as well?

    Thank you

      1. Yes it can. It’s cross platform via Google Sheets, so you can use it on any device that is logged in under your user.

      2. Yes it does, although with a healthy disclaimer that it’s not to be used for tax purposes.

      3. It’s a one off purchase inclusive of future upgrades. I’m not a fan of subscriptions.

      • Thanks, have bought it a week or so ago but haven’t set it up yet.

  • Okay I like the all the information this displays but I would like to see my expenses as well. With that in mind, does this perform the same as frollo with data scraping from banks? or is it solely a budget tracker where I have to enter all the data?. I do not have shares but have a super fund as well. Thanks.

  • I had paid for this yest and also sent a req to resend but still havent received any email with instructions. Scanned my entire email and realized that i had paid for it last year as well but had not received it. Just checking if anyone is in the same boat ? I hope my 12$ (2×6$) are not gone to a dodgy trxn.

    • If you send me some either the PayPal Transaction ID or your email address I can manually resend the invite to you. If you have an iCloud address it seems there’s been some deliverability issues these last few days.

  • Hmm when I click the button to accept the disclaimer it runs script but it never finishes running?

    • Usually this means either temporary Google Cloud congestion, or there is a prompt on your screen that you need to click to close before the script times out.

  • Just purchased and email delivered thank you.

  • Purchased but can't open the file.

Link takes me to a page that says to save a copy, but that button takes me to a page that says address cannot be found.
OP are you able to help?

    • Is this after you click make a copy, or when viewing the sheet for the first time? If you look in your personal Google Drive do you see a copy of the sheet there?

Just trying to diagnose where it’s stalled.

  • Damn,

I should start selling my awesome not finance related spreadsheets.

Didn't think there was really a market.

Currently using wemoney for tracking net worth and expenses

I guess it's a small price to pay and I am sure this spreadsheet would end up saving you that $6 pretty quickly.

  • Don't if i will use this but have bought it to give me the first reason to use it!

    is it good?

  • Purchased after reading positive comments and 18 hours later, no email to access the document. I have checked all email folders. Have pm'd @CSPersonalFinance

    • Sorry for the slow response, just catching up on my messages now. I’m working my way through and will manually send you the invite.

    • Confirmation email now manually resent. Thanks for sending the details.

  • Where is the slim version ?

    • When you purchase the sheet both versions will be sent to you.

  • I bought it in the past. How can I get the slim version ?

  • Hi, wondering if you can add property expenses (body corporate, rates, advertising fees etc.) on the property tab?

  • -1
